Have you ever looked through someone else's eyes? Heard through their ears, spoken with their tongue? The gods have tried to teach some of you empathy, but it's time you learned the hard way, exactly what the others here have been through. For a week, every time you brush skin to skin with someone, you'll experience a memory of theirs: happy, sad, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it feels real to you.
The first touch may come as a surprise- it lasts only for a split second but may feel like an eternity, where you're trapped in someone else's memory. After that, it could be more expected, and some may even figure out how to control it and share specific scenes from their past with others. Or, you might wear gloves and long sleeve shirts for awhile, nobody's judging.
Maybe curtail the handholding for awhile- or go right ahead, if that's your thing. After all, you never really know somebody unless you've walked a mile in their shoes, right?► This log covers November 14th-20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you die in a memory, you don't die in real life, but if you do die in real life please let us know here.
7!
feel free to toss a lup memory at me too!!
He's off again after the collision, darting across the street in pursuit of his snake monster thing. It's trying to worm itself into a crevasse between two large rocks.]
Hey! Help me get the, uh, the thing!
[He's pointing. Lup!!! This memory thing can wait!!!!!]

The memory Newt gets in return from her is a brief flash, the memory of an interview, a dip into her previous life before so much happened and forced the woman to change.
But Lup doesn't have a clue about that one being shared. All she knows is that Newt's memory has left a little ache in her chest and there's a weird-ass pet on the loose that needs to be stopped.
It's probably not her smartest move, but considering she's always left everything but offensive magic to Taako, the elf casts Wall of Fire in front of where the creature is running, hoping with all hope it isn't stupid enough to run straight into it.
She's so sorry in advance if she barbecues your pet, Newt.]

Luckily, the critter is smart enough to stop as soon as it sees the wall of fire. It coils backward awkwardly given that snakes don't do backing up very well, and then crawls up on top of the rocks it was trying to sneak between, scanning the area for a better path. It's enough of a delay for Newt to catch up and grab it. It doesn't resist, at least. Phew.
He heads back toward the lab and, uh, away from that giant wall of fire? He's not super thrilled about the overkill there. At least his snake bird thing doesn't look injured. It's twisting around his arm and chirping. This thing is so weird.]
So, uh, you ever get your fifteen bucks?

Newt returns with his little critter and Lup lets her concentration on the spell disappear, the flames slowly dying away back to nothing. See!! Overkill for sure, but no harm down in the end at least. That's a first for her.]
I dunno, you ever see your mom again?
[The words slip from her mouth before the elf can even give them a thought, which is why almost immediately, both of her long ears are flying up in surprise, eyebrows disappearing beneath her bangs. Lup's a little rough around the edges and generally pretty abrasive to folks she doesn't know, but that's toeing the line even for her. Her smile doesn't disappear exactly, but it twists, brows drawing together in silent apology.]
Shit, I didn't mean it that way. That came out all wrong.

Normally, this is where he'd start arguing. About what, he's not sure, but he'd find something to yell about, and then he'd storm off and sulk while he hacks apart a monster corpse or dismantles an obsolete travel cage. It's easy to get lost in his work, even when some asshole's dredged up a memory that stings.
He doesn't, though. Maybe because she apologizes, but he wants to believe that's not the case. It's easier to just be mad at her, even if he doesn't yell about it.]
What, like there's a right way to ask that question? Just because some crappy alien magic let you take a peek in my brain doesn't make that your business.
[He should probably just go, really. He doesn't know Lup all that well, and he won't lose anything by ending the conversation here. But again, he does the unexpected thing and gives her a chance to answer. It's definitely because he's still invested in the story of that fifteen bucks, yep.]

There've been some downright awful events during her long stay in Hadriel, ones that manipulate emotions, ones that alter memories, but this one is just so much more invasive, so much more difficult to brush off at the end of the day. Sharing sensitive memories with strangers, sharing secret memories with family who were never supposed to see, it's been a real shitshow.]
Sorry. [That's easily the third apology she's given in nearly two years, so hold onto that, Newt.] I'm a real bitch sometimes, 'specially when the assholes in charge pull shit like this. But it wasn't fair to throw that back in your face. My bad, doc.
[Not that she'll be able to just shake the image she has of him now in her head, a young boy aching for a peek of the woman who chose to stay out of his life. It still feels so real and raw. Something the elf can relate to, just a little.]
For what it's worth, parents are shit. Mine fucked off without a word too.
