Event Log: Memories Past

Have you ever looked through someone else's eyes? Heard through their ears, spoken with their tongue? The gods have tried to teach some of you empathy, but it's time you learned the hard way, exactly what the others here have been through. For a week, every time you brush skin to skin with someone, you'll experience a memory of theirs: happy, sad, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it feels real to you.

The first touch may come as a surprise- it lasts only for a split second but may feel like an eternity, where you're trapped in someone else's memory. After that, it could be more expected, and some may even figure out how to control it and share specific scenes from their past with others. Or, you might wear gloves and long sleeve shirts for awhile, nobody's judging.

Maybe curtail the handholding for awhile- or go right ahead, if that's your thing. After all, you never really know somebody unless you've walked a mile in their shoes, right?

[ Wash's thoughts exactly, but he looks massively relieved when she speaks. She must've seen something cool, not traumatizing. ]

You... Alphys, you knew that. Space marine, comes with the territory.

[ The starry eyes are a little weird, too, and make him curious. ]

What exactly did you see?

I mean, yeah, but this was-- in space!

[That sentence makes no goddamn sense, and after some sputtering, she tries again.]

Like you're just-- I've never seen it for real! You jumped off your ship through wreckage into a hangar and beat up a bunch of guys and it was amazing! You and your team were like, bam, and slam, a-and-- ohhhhmygodohmygod.

[She's absolutely swinging her tiny fists as she speaks, squeaking as she describes this.]

It looked amazing!

Ohh. You mean the junkyard.

[ Alphys' description of the action, though, with her little air punches and squeals... Wash can't help but smile. He isn't usually one to be like "and I'm such a badass, look what I did" but she's kind of doing it for him and far be it from him to stop her. Hopefully she won't ask after any of his teammates, because they're mostly dead now, just remember their moves fondly. ]

Well I'm glad it was something cool. Could you feel it, too? What using a pack in space is like?

[Honestly, she's learned to avoid asking about stuff like that. Not because of them being dead, but that most people here are missing their friends back home. It's impossibly rare that someone has everyone they care about in the city- considering the small amount of people here, from so many worlds, she feels like it's improbable to think someone isn't missing something. So she doesn't ask.]

Well, it-- kind of! I could f-feel the acceleration, and it was just, there was an antigravity part, and that was just... wow.

[She goes to say another part, and then giggles a little bit.]

S-Speaking of experiences, uh, that was... quite the grappling hook save, for sure.

[She doesn't sound mean when she says it, though she does look a little sheepish, like she hopes he isn't mad for bringing it up.]
