Intro Log: A Day at the Beach

What: The intro log for December
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: December 10th-13th

It's icy cold when you wake up, so let's hope you arrived here wearing warm clothes. They're not too easy to find right now, either - Hadriel is a pretty unwelcoming place. You're on the floor of the colosseum, which is sandy and (right now) a bit frosty. It's you, the other newcomers - and of course, a battalion of newly-arrived giant scorpions, just as confused as you and ready to fight. They're big and fast, they've got armor covering their creepy bodies, and that stinger will seriously mess you up if you're not careful. So... welcome to Hadriel!

You might be cold, but the Door doesn't seem to be. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found some beach towels with creative designs. And if that's not enough, you'll be all prepared for a day at the beach with these cute sandals (jandals?). Too bad there's no beach and it's really cold and everything sucks, right?

Once you've finished dreaming about a warm beach vacation, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[she's formal, but never stiff. as she's more than willing to prove during a fight. she draws her sword and dagger, each surrounded with a visible aura of frost and chill. this place may be cold, but her blades can freeze a man's fingers off]

All right, a collaboration! [she can more than handle herself, reaching one of the scorpions gracefully, like a dance as much as a fight. she goads it in closer with her dagger, making it think that's all she has on offer, but then swiftly brings her sword in, lopping off its head, her dagger stabbing deep into its belly in case beheadding it's not enough to stop it.

she swiftly withdraws her blades and turns to another scorpion, this one stabbing through what passes as its skull with her sword, pinning it to the ground as it twitches in its death throes.

she tosses a glance in his direction before swiping both blades across the throat of yet another scorpion, nearly severing its head off] How goes your battle?

That's what I'm talkin' about!

[She's proving herself less stiff than expected from the moment she agrees to that collaboration. And he's honestly thrilled that he doesn't have to babysit her. It's always fun having someone to play around with this way. Dante's best fun is killing what threatens humanity, no matter what monstrous form it comes in. But usually he fights the battles against the hoards of the annoying monsters alone. So this is a rare sort of treat.

Dante is enjoying watching her fight far more than he's enjoying actually battling the beasts. They're small fry in the end, nothing to write home about. And he likes a little more of a challenge. Oh well, at least there are plenty of the things to go around.]

Too easy. I was hoping for something a little more exciting.

I'm pleased to hear that!

[and she is. it's been too long since she lost herself in the efforts of a good fight. Ferelden ladies were no Orlesian wallflowers, give them a sword and a dagger and she'll know how to use it. as she proves by cutting a swath through the scorpions with ease.

and she does make it look easy and effortless. she'd been fighting for her life against far worse opponents on a daily basis back in Ferelden, so these scorpions are an amusing diversion. she's pleased to see that he's doing quite well for himself, too. she can't truly respect a man who can't defend himself ably]

It is. The creatures last month when I arrived were no challenge, either, but I've been told tales of ogres from my world being here for a while. Now, those are worthy opponents.

[He likes a girl that can fight. Especially a girl that can fight, and is eye candy of the highest order, and doesn't try to shoot him in the head. That's about as good as it gets, all things considered. He'd be happier if he didn't have to deal with this whole Hadriel and gods and doors mess, but he'll take what he can get. And what he's getting is a fun, although far too easy battle in a winter wonderland of a Colosseum. Beach style, but he's not too concerned about that.] Too bad we don't have those around. They might even be as fun to kill as demons. Guess I won't get to find out.

[she can certainly fight and while "eye candy" may not be a term used in Ferelden, "beautiful" is and she's been described as that. and she's not going to shoot him in the head, she wouldn't know what to do with a gun if you gave her written instructions. everyone would be happier if they didn't have to deal with Hadriel and the gods, but the gods don't particularly care if they're happy. and this battle is too easy, but they can't all be as challenging as the Battle of Denerim] Ah, ogres are far harder to kill than demons! They're as tall as a three-storey keep, they're terribly muscular, and they have horns to impale you with if you're not careful.

[Dante puts Rebellion back onto his back, and reaches for a rifle of sorts. . Spiral the most fun a guy can have when dealing with giant monster scorpions. Their armor is good for some defense, but it's nothing compared to high power penetrating bullets.]

I think we've got a different definition of demon. Guess that's the fun of the place. Everything's a surprise.

[she's never seen anything like the rifle. though, she can't deny its effectiveness once she sees it in action. however, she'll keep her sword and dagger. they've served her well over the year of the Blight]

Perhaps so! Are yours named for the baser emotions? And that is one of the few fun things about this place.

[as she talks, she continues slaughtering scorpions, her blades leaving visible frost in their wake]

[Spiral is a blast, but he'd never trade out Rebellion or Ebony and Ivory. Sometimes you just gotta keep close what's served you best. And every warrior has a weapon or two they favor more than the rest of them.]

Nope. [Dante stops, thinking for a moment.] Okay, some of the weaklings are. There's the Sins, they're close to that. [It's fun, just casually slaying hoards of bug monsters while having a pleasant conversation.]

[and for Mariane, Maric's blade and the Dead Thaig Shanker suit her best. Maric's blade for it was an engagement present of sorts. the Dead Thaig Shanker because it was a token of trust from a friend whose trust she had to earn. she has a deeply sentimental nature, don't tell anyone]

Strange. All demons in my world, even the truly powerful ones, are based on the emotions they invoke. What are your world's demons like? [she asks as she continues to slaughter scorpions]

Back home? Let's see... [He stops for a moment, and leans on Spiral after pressing it against the ground. To an outsider, Dante might seem incredibly careless with his weapons. Sometimes he doesn't look when he shoots, sometimes he stabs wildly, sometimes he uses them for things that most weapons wouldn't be safe being used as. But that's the joy of Devil Arms. They're not normal weapons. And don't have to be treated like they are.] We've got a ton of 'em. Way too many. Some of them are human sized, a lot of the Sins are. And then there's some that are big enough to have a full party in. If you can imagine it, there's probably a demon that fits it. [Enough rest for now, it's back to shooting gallery fun times.]

[yes, he does seem to treat his weapons rather casually. she'd never dream of doing the same to hers. she treats hers with reverence, given what they mean to her. especially her sword. it had been the blade used by Maric the Savior to bring the Orlesian occupation of her home country, Ferelden, to an end]

It's the same in my world, though Pride demons tend to be especially large. They all die in the end, though. [yes, back to slicing up scorpions] You fight very well. It's something you do often?

And the bigger they are? The cooler they look when they come crashing down. [He doesn't have the kind of pride and loyalties to an area or country. He doesn't care about his weapons, save for the ones that came from his family. They're dead demons, they don't deserve that sort of love as a rule. Dante is detached from a lot of things, save for family and fun. And he loves those things in equal parts, even if he doesn't really act like the family part is important.]

How big do those demons get, anyway? The prides? The prides I know are kinda slow and dumb. There's a hell of a lot of 'em though. Guess they make up for their failure that way.

They do, indeed. [for a very long time, Mariane carried her family sword, the sword which belonged to the Cousland line for generations. but for a long time, she thought she was the only Cousland left. she would understand the love for family, she still misses her slain mother and father every day and every day, she's grateful that her elder brother survived]

As tall as a three storey keep and they're very intelligent. Not like the ones from your world at all as they're also very rare. Rage demons, on the other hand, are terribly common and not too bright.
