It's icy cold when you wake up, so let's hope you arrived here wearing warm clothes. They're not too easy to find right now, either - Hadriel is a pretty unwelcoming place. You're on the floor of the colosseum, which is sandy and (right now) a bit frosty. It's you, the other newcomers - and of course, a battalion of newly-arrived giant scorpions, just as confused as you and ready to fight. They're big and fast, they've got armor covering their creepy bodies, and that stinger will seriously mess you up if you're not careful. So... welcome to Hadriel!
You might be cold, but the Door doesn't seem to be. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found some beach towels with creative designs. And if that's not enough, you'll be all prepared for a day at the beach with these cute sandals (jandals?). Too bad there's no beach and it's really cold and everything sucks, right?
Once you've finished dreaming about a warm beach vacation, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers December 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

It's not on anyone's to-do list, and if it were, I wouldn't want to be around them on an average day. You're not alone--this happens every few weeks, a bunch of people showing up and getting a monster welcoming committee. It's why a lot of us come by when the next group is due, so people don't have to face them alone.
Unfortunately, whatever power brings us here doesn't care where we were going or what we were doing. I wasn't even wearing shoes when I arrived.

He likes to think it even if he doesn't necessarily always believe it.
And hating this exact kind of situation is something he knows pretty much any person does, from the most grounded to the most unhinged. He puts a lot of value in "you're not alone." At the end of the day, being alone is one of the worst possible outcomes. So at least there's that. ]
Great. Place sounds better by the minute. [ He can always afford to be a little salty. ] So what's the deal with it? Or-- where do you go to hear about what the deal is? I did a year on a quarantined moon, but, uh. Pretty different kind of city. All the big stuff trying to eat you usually stayed out.

[She holds up her phone and waggles it. It's cooler than an iphone, because it tells them what the hell is going on.]
Short version is we're here because our emotions can power up these supernatural jackasses based on those emotions so we don't all die and you know what, it's probably better to go with the welcome message first. Why were you on a quarantined moon?
[Because that's the important thing here.]

Finn finds he doesn't mind the change all that much. Look at all the good the official government stuff did him anyway, in the end. He fishes his new phone out of a pocket and immediately starts tooling around with it. All the emojis he learned can still exist. What a time to be alive and be a big human battery.
It takes him half a second to put two and two together on the fact that quarantined anything can sound theoretically bad, but he gets there. ]
It's just where the portal showed up. Guess that's why they colonized it. Everyone who got pulled in had to stay there. How long depended on what your plans were. Three years minimum if you wanted to get to the main planet and work from there. No idea how long if you were waiting on the portal to get configured to send you home.
[ Nonsense like that. ]
So, uh. Fresh out of plagues to bring here with me. Sorry if you were interested.
[ When there was a whole history involving an actual deadly plague in Riverview that he never learned about because he jumped into soldiering nigh immediately... ]

[And not even a lot of that. Elena tries not to look too sympathetic—she doesn't want him to mistake it for pity. But Jesus, it sounds like he came from a much more stressful situation than sitting around the living room wondering about the state of one's marriage.]
Look...I can't guarantee that being here will be a lot more fun for you. But there are people here who look out for each other, and monsters aren't here all the time, and we might be stuck but we're not quarantined.
[...yay?]

Finn is a lot of things. Easy to please is generally one of those things, depending on the circumstances. And even if he's not ready to buy into the angle because of his own personal opinions, fresh off of his "thanks for nothing Riverview" tour, he at the very least appreciates the sentiment behind what she says. His face softens out to prove it.
From experience, he knows how easy it is for someone to decide not to say or do anything in that vein at all. The effort itself says more about a person than anything. Elena is nice, that's the lesson to take away from this. ]
Hard to miss the looking out, at least. I appreciated it. And the, uh. [ He holds up his network device. Because he is cool. ] Info.

[The device and other people in Hadriel should be able to offer him more knowledge, but she's glad to do what she can, and glad he didn't get eaten by monsters.]
You going to be okay from here? For a given value of 'okay.'
no subject
Yeah, I think so. Gonna finish reading. See if anyone I know turned up.
[ He can deal with the more practical concerns of finding a place to stay and food after he's done being a nerd and seeing what his friend situation is. The buildings aren't going anywhere, after all. ]
You can give me a call if you ever need anything, though. I owe you one.
[ Finn figures he'll probably see her around? There's not a lot of crowd action around here. But he wants to make sure that that is definitely on the table just in case. He takes his ride or die seriously. ]

[It doesn't happen all the time, but enough people here know others from their worlds that it's at least a possibility. She hopes it happens for him.]
And I'll keep that in mind. Bye, Finn.
[Hey, you never know what a favor will come in handy.]
