— on the rooftops; ( The rooftops of the city remain Kate's favoured way of getting around, even with the chill of this arctic planet leaving a fine dusting of snow apparently everywhere. She hops from one building to the next easily, though nowhere near as quickly as usual, a trail of footprints marking her route from one end of the city to the other.
All in all, the day is like any other. She perches at the edge of a building and stares out at the expanse of frozen wilds beyond the city. One more day of trying to find anything of use, whether beast or vegetation, and fuck knows how long they have to keep doing this. Or whether Sorrow will find the other gods before something finds him.
But she can't concentrate on that now, they can't do anything about that. The only thing any of them can do is attempt to survive this place. To make sure they can eat and drink and deal without all the amenities which the gods provide. All the things people seem to overlook when thinking about being without the gods and their emotional influences. Her fingers run through the quiver of arrows at her waist, counting off the remaining ammunition with a frown. This is becoming a problem, with no new stock in the armoury or trees left in the city. She'll have to play it safe— )
The hell?
( The rumbling reaches the perimeter of the city, a familiar rattling that has her head shooting up at her eyes narrowing. That— Of all the natural disasters on all the planets. Perhaps they're at least fortunate they're no longer underground, she thinks, but that is quickly, quickly proven wrong as the cloud of charging predators reaches her line of vision. )
...Shit.
( She springs to another rooftop and swears under her breath as the first few beasts pour into the city, readying her bow and and arrow to try and pluck one or two of the crowd off. One arrow arcs through the air and hits its target, shattering its skull and sending it careening into the rest of the crowd, driving it into further chaos.
That in and of itself might have been fine, but as she readies her next shot, one of them charges straight for the building she's stood on, turning the walls to rubble and knocking Kate off her feet and into the air.
Well, shit. She barely gets a chance to right herself before she lands on the back of one of the beasts, blindly grabbing at it to keep herself from falling. )
— wildcard; ( After this, Kate can be found throughout the city helping to fight off any of the predators. )
