Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.

The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.

When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...

[ He shakes his head. He doesn't want to look at the visions anymore. All they do is make his throat hurt from all the sobbing. He curls into himself, the flowers curling in around him, as if to cover him up from view. ]

[ Wash's lips press together into a line, uncertain and uncomfortable. This is not his wheelhouse. The only person he really knows how to deal with crying is his girlfriend, and even that was trial and error. But it's enough to guide him here. ]

...Donut, have any of them touched you? No, right? Because they're not real. Here.

[ There's no real way to step around the flowers so Wash just kneels in them, reaching out to put a hand on Donut's shoulder and grip it firmly. ]

See? I'm actually here, all that bullshit isn't. Whatever you were seeing, it's fake. That's not how it works, we go back to exactly when we left.

[ He stiffens under the warm embrace and despite his initial misgivings his hand creeps up and clings to his shirt. The next moment, he's burying his face into the cotton, wailing his heart out as he smears it with a steady stream of tears. ]

[ Things that Wash is not equipped to deal with include this. He goes very still as Donut grabs at him, then buries his face... he exhales long and slow, then brings his other hand up to rub Donut's back as he cries. He is extremely uncomfortable but he's doing it, he's Helping (tm). ]

See, you're okay. It wasn't real, everything's fine.

[ This is the opposite of everything being fine but hopefully he can help the other man figure out what's reality. ]

Bwyut, yuu werb hwappy.

[ He wails into his shirt, fingers clinging just a little tighter. ]

[ Come on, buddy, pull it together. Wash just keeps up the soothing gestures, and figures honesty is the best policy. Maybe if he keeps saying it, it'll sink in. ]

It wasn't me, Donut. I'd never be happy any of you guys were gone.

[ Between the soothing gestures and positive reinforcement found in those words the tears start to lessen, the wailing calms down into a bit of sniffles and his grip slowly loosens. ]

Pro-promise?

I promise. Sometimes I want a break but I don't want any of you to just disappear. You're family. What you've been seeing is a lie... look, you shouldn't be alone right now. I know you like this place but why don't you come back with me for awhile? Talk to the others, cheer up a little.

[ His bottom lip wobbles at the suggestion and fresh tears glaze his eyes. A few drop, but not many. They're happy tears. Tucker had asked him something similar earlier and he wasn't quite sure because it wasn't just Tucker who had to deal with him. What if the others didn't want him back? ]

Really?

[ He lets go now, so he can better look at him. ]

But there's not room for me. I don't... [ he clutches at his own dirty shirt, needing something to hold onto ] wanna intrude.

[ What he sees when he pulls back is Wash looking confused, brow furrowed slightly. ]

What are you talking about? Nobody took your room, there's three free bedrooms. It'll be fine. You want me to ask everybody else first?

[ He nods quietly. Yes, he does. ]

Let's find out.

[ Wash pulls out his phone and sends a text to all the others, a simple Can Donut move back in? that he expects he knows the answer to and this is a formality, but all the same. The responses filter in one at a time. ]

You're good, it sounds like. If you decide you want to stay you can only hog the bathroom one night a week once the water's back on, okay? Oh, and my rule, no more making that tea just in case someone else drinks it, it's dangerous for us.

[ His bottom lip wobbles at the answer and he wipes the tears before they have a chance to escape. ]

Only one night? [ He wipes his wet hand on his shirt. ] But I like my tea, I even made little teabags with names on them.

[ Wash deliberates for a minute, because the latter really is dangerous but maybe he can find a way... ]

...two nights, and if you want your tea you drink it out of a special cup that's just for you. Everybody else will know not to touch it just in case. How does that sound?

[ Compromise!!! ]

[ He thinks about it for a moment before turning to him, eyes bereft of tears. ]

Can I pick my own special cup?

[ asks the child ]

[ Thank god the crying's stopped, Wash only knows that one trick to soothe people and if it doesn't help he has to rely on words which he's not great at. He seems to be saying the right thing here, though, at least. ]

Yeah, of course. It just has to look different -- you could paint one if you really wanted to, so everybody knows it's yours.

[ He nods. ]

Can I paint it red.

[ The flowers start to pull away, the god no longer in need of their comfort. ]

Sure. Red's a good color, I'll even get you the paint.

[ Does that sound good? Wash is satisfied, at least. ]

Do you need help packing?

Well... okay.

[ The flowers have retreated now, crawling back to the wall where they slither and slide almost taking up half the wall like English ivy.]

If you want. [ He wipes at his eyes one last time and stands. ] But, I need a bath first.

[ Because he's a mess. A disaster compared to his groomed and pampered self. He's even getting specks of facial fair! And don't even get him started on his legs! He needs to wax! Pronto! ]
