Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.

The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.

When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...

[George's visions weren't very shocking. her parents were still on the verge of divorce, her little sister was still weird and insular, and the Reapers went about their jobs without a hitch. there's nothing like having your own insignificance thrown in your face. so she's on her way back home when she runs into Jo, who's apparently doing some wandering on her own]

Some food. Nothing very interesting. [She shrugs. It's still been a relief to have something new to look at.]

Food is interesting for those who have to eat. [who's still fasting? this guuuuuurl]

Not if it's all the same thing over and over again. [But, she kind of understands. As much as she can.]

When will you start eating again?

Well, it's not like the stupid gods left us with a Whole Foods to pick from. [much as she wishes they would. a coffee shop would be good, too]

When the stores go back to normal.

What's a Whole Foods? [Jo assumes it's a grocery store, but she's never heard of it.]

And you promise it's not going to mess you up to wait?

What's a--oh. It's a grocery store chain aimed at health-nut city folk. Everything's all organic or grass fed or cage free or whatever. Got a great cheese section, but they're pricey as fuck.

It won't. I'll be fine. [she assumes]

How many cheeses does anyone really need? [Cheddar and American. That's plenty.]

And you'll tell someone if that changes?

All the cheeses. I'd fucking kill for some brie. Or fresh mozzarella.

Of course I will. [of course she won't]

What is bree? [Honestly, this all sounds ridiculous. Mozzarella she likes though. Cheese sticks are always good.]

Never mind, I don't want to talk about cheese when I'm living on canned veggies.

Oh my fucking god, we have got to get you outta here. I'm thinking Peter's world sounds like a good option.

Canned veggies are the worst. They fuck up green beans. How d'you fuck up green beans?

[Look, this is mostly because she is from a small town in Nebraska. She isn't sure she wants to move to NYC.]

I'd rather eat the green beans than the canned carrots.

Ugh, that's true. The canned carrots are the worst. How do you fuck up carrots?

I don't think they've ever had carrots. [It might be hard to make something you've never tasted.]

Then add that to the list along with green beans, peas, corn, and pretty much everything you can can ever. [fine, she'll force-feed the yucky squishy canned peas to Hope. that will go well]

[Jo laughs quietly.]

Yeah. I guess they're trying, but it still sucks.

Just a little bit, yeah. I swear, I get outta this joint, I'm never eating anything canned again.

Ever? [Jo laughs at the thought.]

What about the good canned stuff we don't have? Or home canned food?

...okay, maybe I can make an exception for Campbell's tomato soup. That shit's tasty. But who actually cans food themselves? [says the suburban girl from the height of suburbia]

Lots of people can stuff. [Jo laughs quietly. God, George.]

I've canned tomatoes. It's not that weird.

I don't know anybody who does. [that's why god invented grocery stores]

It is to me. How d'you even do it?

[Jo's pretty sure God didn't have anything to do with grocery stores.]

You prepare the tomatoes however and then boil the jars and stuff. [Jo barely remembers how, but she remembers doing it.]

It's a good way to store food. [She wonders if anyone in the city knows how to do it.]

Oh. Weird. I mean, it's probably cheaper that way, but I can't figure that it would be easier.

I guess I'll have to take your word for it.

Not everything has to be easy. [She laughs.]

Maybe we'll figure out how to do it here. It'll help keep Pell's produce.

No, but isn't it usually better to go with the easier option? [she looks confused]

I guess. I don't know the first thing about actually doing it, though.
