Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.

The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.

When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...

Not really. I guess I just didn't realize what was going on. I usually have a lot of weird nightmares anyway.

It did seem a little different, though.

Oh. I had mine beamed into my head while I was wide awake. Nearly ran into a fucking wall.

Different? How come?

Oh, I'm sorry. I know those can be startling.

[He has experience with that too. Normally he's just standing still when it happens though, so there's that.]

It just felt different. I can't really explain it. It's not technically out of line from the kind of stuff I normally see, but it was off?

It's not real, though.

[It's hard to tell whose benefit he's saying that for.]

Startling's not a strong enough word for it.

[George was mid-trip to the Clinic and mid-ly tripped over her own feet, face first into a wall]

...what stuff do you normally see? Stuff with the ghosts? Or other stuff?

No, it's not. Anyway, it's not like I saw stuff I hadn't guessed would happen.

[maybe for both?]

Uhhh, well...yeah. Both sometimes. It's hard to explain my nightmares. They usually keep me up at night. Sometimes I don't want to go back to sleep because of them.

[It's not that he wouldn't go into specifics with her. She's a friend. But he's not sure if he should. No one needs to hear that shit. Besides, he's not sure where he'd even start.]

This seemed more...real, I guess.

[said kindly] That's gotta suck. How do you get enough sleep?

[she understands the urge to keep certain things secret. fuck knows she doesn't want to get into her life as a Reaper. it's too private, too humiliating]

I know the feeling. I saw--stuff, too. Wasn't all that pleasant.

Uh, I don't.

[Followed by a small laugh, perhaps a touch awkward because that joke sounded more self deprecating than he would have liked.]

I'm sorry. Do you wanna like...do something to get your mind off of it? Are you okay?

Seriously?

[she would like to know. even Reapers sleep occasionally]

Yeah, I'm fine. Like I said, it wasn't like it was a surprise. My parents getting divorced, my little sister getting weirder and weirder, and the other Reapers going along with their work like always.

Sorta, yeah.

[Oh he sleeps. He just doesn't get enough of it most nights. At any rate, while that doesn't sound awful he thinks he might know her issue. Maybe.]

Ah, I see. Well, things aren't always what they seem on the outside, you know? You might not have gotten the whole picture.

How are you, y'know, functional? With no sleep.

[her issue is that she blames herself for everything. literally all the things. except for the stuff that she tries to get out of]

Maybe not, but it felt real. And it's kind of the way things were right before I left. My dad was kinda gonna have an affair. I think?

[He wishes he had a better answer. But look, the thing George just said should probably take point in the conversation over Sal's inability to sleep like a functioning human being.]

Oh...whoa...I'm sorry.

[she looks vaguely skeptical] That doesn't sound like much of a solution.

[nope, sorry, he's her friend and therefore, she's going to be concerned for him. so there]

Thanks. [a pause] And you know the really shitty thing about it all? My dad was gonna be having an affair with a girl I had a crush on.
