Event Log: Is It a Wonderful Life?

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for Is It A Wonderful Life? event
Where: All over the city
When: Jan 4th-8th
Warnings: None

Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.

The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.

When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...

► This log covers January 4th-Januray 8th.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you try a weird solution to make it back home, please let us know here.

(One tragedy trails after another and there is no stopping any of it. All they can do is weather them and hope something is left in their wake.)

It would have been better if he fell in battle with Huor. (She grimaces, pained and pale at all the horrific possibilities that befell poor Hurin.)

Why did it go so wrong? Why did you have to die? Evil is too strong; if there is supposed to be a balance, it feels weighted in its favor.

Normally, I would prefer to think otherwise. That where there is life, there is hope.

[Which is a very Noldor way of thinking, as many Sindar have pointed out over the years. If Hurin were dead, he would not be in the company of the Enemy. The poor Man's family would not have been singled out.

And true, Beleriand would still have had to deal with the natural consequences of Turin being Turin- but they probably wouldn't have escalated quite as badly as they did.]

The Valar say that all evil defeats itself, for out of Discord comes a new melody to counter it. But the perspective of those who Sang the world into being is not the one those of us born to it can easily share.

If you know what fate awaits him in the future - the near future at that - the hope is faint at best.

(Part of hope is not knowing what comes. She likes to think there was some purpose in the man's life, but she hates that he suffered so.)

They are ancient and far removed from the lives you and the men lead. I'm not sure they can understand the pain and frustration of life.

I know. And I feel responsible- it was my army they marched in, my war we fought.

[He breathes in and out, trying to calm himself at the thought.]

You need not tell me I am wrong- the heart and the head do not always speak with the same voice, but I know which is which.

A whole war was your doing? No one else had a reason to fight?

(She gives him a very mothering look. Come now, Timmy. You know better than that.)

Don't forget your head when feeling your heart. I am hardly one to give you that advice, but here we are.

Oh, hardly. Hurin had a daughter, did I mention? The girl died of a plague sent by Morgoth- she was two or three, I believe. Her father would never have stayed home after that, even if I could offer him the chance.

[Shaking his head.]

Ah, well. It is passed now. And Hurin and Huor both are at rest, from someone's point of view.

[Give him enough time, he'll convince himself.]

How could he not act? His grief must have been overwhelming. Fighting would have been easier than sitting still.

(She remembers all the cold, lonely days in her cage, grieving for her father, her sister, her brothers, her mother and for Lady too.)

Lord Hurin is with his daughter. It's not such a bad fate.

And he had a world to win- for all those he loved that remained. He had hope.

[It's something to keep in mind- something he must not dishonor, even now when he can do nothing to help.]

I hope he is happier now, wherever Men travel after they pass.
