Event Log: Is It a Wonderful Life?

Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.

The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.

When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...

I didn't know him. [ Not more than one or two conversations' worth. ] But...I'm here. We have each other, and...Pup, and the Warden, and the others. We're in this together.

[ For as long as they're to be stuck here. ]

[fadeling]

Until they decide we aren't again.

[closerift]

They haven't decided it yet, though, have they? You and I have been here for years, Cole. There's something about us that they can't seem to shake.

[fadeling]

They still need us. So they can eat us.

[closerift]

They feed us, too, don't they? Funny how easily you can forget that we're glorified cattle...

[ Guess who has two thumbs and hates that concept?? ]

[fadeling]

They feed us so we feed them. They think it's fair, but they forgot the fair of fairness. They can't remember what it was like.

[closerift]

Did they ever know? [ She asks, chuckling dryly. ]

[fadeling]

No. Maybe. I can't hear if they did.

[closerift]

Do you hear much of what they...think, Cole? That is, can you get any real sort of sense from them, or is it...well, hazy?

[fadeling]

They're too quiet, too distant, too guarded. I can't hear if they hurt.

[closerift]

Well, I'm sure they would be unhappy if you could get more of a sense of how they are. Probably safer for you that you're not able to poke around in their heads.

[ Not to the same extent as he can with most people, anyway. ]

[fadeling]

Probably. They don't like sharing.

[closerift]

What is it they like, exactly? Torturing us? Each other?

[fadeling]

I don't know. They don't share.

[closerift]

I thought you could pick that sort of thing up even if they aren't in a sharing mood?

[fadeling]

Sometimes. They know to make it quiet.
