What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.

It's freezing down to your bones, but nothing around is going to help with that. The closest thing to warmth might be some horrific movie posters. Some of these movies have never existed, but they're cringey and awful all the same. Maybe once you get back home, you can cleanse your pallet with a trip to the theater, but until then you'll just have to wonder who in their right mind could have authorized a movie called The Thrilling Three, apparently about a trio of clowns in the Wild West. Maybe. It's hard to tell from the poster.

If nothing else, maybe the paper will be good for kindling for the Rathalos flying overhead. These wyvernlike creatures are almost always in flight and are capable of shooting fireballs down to the icy ground below, so at least there's that to warm you up? Before you get too comfy, be sure to notice the extremely sharp talons, sturdy scales, and very sharp teeth they sport, which may also give you some trouble.

Maybe it's time to find some cover? They might not be able to fit into the smaller rooms in the building, so now would be a great time to run for those.

Once you've finished dreaming about a warm beach vacation, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Man, Alphys wishes she could be that person. It's not even the worst it could be but she can feel the heat fading out of the bottom layer of her shirts and she wants to just take a nap. But she can't, and can't stand here arguing about it, so.]

No, it's, it's fine! It's uh, kind of hard to explain everything and uhm, I really c-can't here, so--

[Alphys reaches out to grab her hand and then doesn't because the implications of that are so much and this woman is so pretty so instead she'll shakily gesture towards herself.]

Here, uh, this way.

[She'll bring Aqua back to the Lab, pushing open the front doors and starting to go back towards the kitchen.]

[If she says so...then it would be rude for Aqua to insist otherwise no matter how uncertain she seems.]

All right. Let's go.

[She falls into step beside her, letting her lead the way. For a few minutes she's quiet, and hopes the silence between them is comfortable instead of awkward. It's been a long time since she's been in the habit of making conversation.]

This place...it's yours? You make things here?

[A lab, she'd said. Not a kitchen.]

[Alphys doesn't really know what to say. There's a lot of chatter she could go through, but it all seems wildly stupid and every time she gets up the nerve to say something, she keeps her mouth shut instead. Thankfully, Aqua finally breaks the silence as they make it to the building, and she has something non-personal she can say.]

Well, uh, k-kind of! I took it over from a friend when they left the city, and now a couple of people work here. We study stuff about the city.

[Probably the simplest way she can explain it. But then she realizes that might not make sense in context, so she hurriedly adds on another line.]

But uh, there's a kitchen in the back! For, for food stuff.

Then...perhaps we can make something together?

[She can tell that Alphys is nervous, and doesn't want her to be. Really, it's wonderful just to be around a friendly face.]

It's been a while for me, though. I hope I don't do too badly.

You could never do badly!

[It's said like, super abruptly, and probably sounds weird as hell coming from someone she's just met. Alphys immediately blushes in response, ducking her head away as she stumbles out another sentence.]

What I mean is, uh, it-- you'll be fine! It's fine. I'm not really a g-great cook anyway I just kinda put stuff together or make noodles or something! So! It's fine!

[Aqua's too pretty why did she let her in here this was a mistake for her anxiety.]

Ah, but don't you know? That's the best way to learn.

[This girl is so sweet, and so nervous. Aqua wants to reassure her, but she means it, too. She can recall more than a few similar throw-things-together occasions when she'd been learning to cook.]

[She's just small and flustered and doing her best. Aqua sounds reassuring, so she just shoves her head down again in another attempt to hide the red all over her face.]

Well, uh, w-what I mean is, I bet you're better anyway, so you don't need to worry! About me and, uh, being worse or. Things.

[COOL]

Are you sure? Really, I think it's more enjoyable to do it with friends.

[And it's been a long time since she's had a friend to spend time with.]

[Alphys heaves a breath as best she can, turning back to face Aqua with a smile that's wobbly, but eager.]

It's-- okay! I uh, I wouldn't just leave you in here to f-fend for yourself anyway, it's uh, the appliances here aren't always the most intuitive.

[Case in point, getting into the kitchen Aqua gets to see a fridge, a stove, and a microwave. None of those things look like the things you'd imagine them to look like. Everything's weirdly rounded and none of the buttons seem to be in the right language, or even in the same language sometimes. But Alphys seems to know her way around, and drops the bag of cans she had gotten from the shops on the counter.]

So uhm, what kind of food do you like?

Anything, really. Whatever's handy.

[Aqua's not completely sure she can remember what she likes.]

[That's... not what she was expecting to hear. Alphys blinks in surprise, able to ignore her previous flustering in the face of confusion.]

Oh, uhm... do you have anything you're thinking right now? I mean, uh, f-full disclosure, it's mostly canned stuff, but we still have some dried fish somewhere too...

[She starts to peer inside the cabinets, though right now just the lower ones. She's only 4 feet tall, the big cabinets are their own beast.]

I just, uh-- want to make sure you like it! Since we're kind of celebrating, uhm, I g-guess. Like a welcome party...?
