[OPEN] January Lab Mingle!
Who: Anyone at the Lab!
What: General Lab mingle for January.
Where: The Lab
When: From January 10th-February 9th. A new one will come out for next month then!
Warnings: Should be fine; individual toplevels will be tagged appropriately!
The Lab sits right around the clinic and shops on the west island and provides a laboratory workspace for the more scientifically inclined residents of Hadriel.
The original design of the lab is one large, open room; think of how an empty warehouse store might look, but at maybe half to a third of the size. The area is filled with tables, desks, chairs, and a whiteboard and chalkboard, wherein people have set up different stations and zones. The walls are full of shelves, many of which have been converted to cabinets over the years, that hold anything characters would like to populate them with.
In the center of the lab, a CRT monitor style supercomputer rests; it's been repaired a number of times, and despite looking clunky, it seems to still work and makes a horrible dial-up noise when turned on. It runs on it's own power source, a generator set up next to it that seems to run on some sort of magic and electrical source that keeps it chugging along. In addition, many of the stations house their own modifications; check the comments below to see specific changes and areas to the space itself.
Near the back, there are also a few, smaller rooms in the back: two supply closets and a slightly bigger closed-off kitchenette (it's got a Hadriel style microwave and fridge like the ones found in the apartments) and lounge space adapted from a side bedroom. There's a pull out couch that was dragged in there by the original creators as a god-given favor, so it does not match the other decor at all. There's also a staircase to the roof for... roof stuff, I don't know, whatever the hell you wanna do up there. Keep it PG-13, kids.
This is a MINGLE, so please create your own top-levels and tag around! Full details of the lab, supplies, and it's regular residents can be found on our community at
underfunded. Have fun!

Yeah, that checks out.
[He's pretty sure he would have trouble sorting through his own emotions at a time like that, too. Hard to feel anything past PANIC.]
You gotta tell me everything, though, dude. Like, clearly their shells aren't indestructible, and that's good news, but what kind of offense are we talking, here? Did they attack you first? What happened?
no subject
Offences, um. Okay. Well they were trying to body slam me, so they don't just use the shells for defense. Then they have the tentacles, which I assume they would use for like, grappling, crushing? All I'm sure of is that they couldn't pin me down with them, but for like normal people, they'd be really dangerous. Then they've got these beak mouths-- [He pats himself on the arm where he got bit, and then immediately winces because WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT PETER] --Ow. Anyway, those are pretty bad. Anyway uh, they came at me first. Just like, out of nowhere.
no subject
[Newt is furiously recording all of this mentally—crap he should be writing it down, actually, he's worried about forgetting details but it's fine, it's fine, he's too hype for writing. He looks up when Peter "ow"s though.]
You okay, man? I can throw some stitches in that real quick if you want.
no subject
I'll be fine, I'd just have to take stitches out in a couple hours anyway. When I get hurt, I actually heal really fast? This was way worse when it was fresh.
oh god i'm sorry about his bullshit science questions
Okay, that plus the super strength is way interesting. Pin that. We're circling back later.
[BUT IN THE MEANTIME?]
They weren't strong enough to hold you, but they'd be trouble for an average Joe... What are we talking, numbers-wise? Give me some rough estimates. Like how much do they weigh? How much force is in their slamming around?
HIT ME i will also serve up some bullshit
[don't you even get any weird ideas you NEWT.]
Four came after me, they were all different sizes. The biggest one was... I wanna say around the size of a pony? Maybe five hundred pounds, give or take. You ever been hit by a motorcycle? It's kinda like that.
no subject
...I, uh, have never been hit by a motorcycle, no.
[Peter???]
Hm. Pony-sized is manageable. Kind of. A tentacle-flailing pony with a beak and natural plate armor.
[Okay this is sounding less and less manageable by the second, so, moving on.]
Well, uh, just looking at this shell fragment, I think it's safe to say these creatures are organic, but that's about all I can do. It rules them out as being Null creations or something, though. That's not nothing.
no subject
[Sometimes you just get hit by motorcycles okay???]
Now, when you say manageable, that doesn't mean you're going to do a dumb thing and try to wrangle one, right?
no subject
I mean, that'd be the best way to study one. Up close and personal, you know?
[It's like a half-baked idea at this point, it's fine, he'll work out the details at some point. It'll be safe. Ish.]
