[ He's genuinely curious, and still unsure about how much is Peter's suit and how much is the kid himself. A thought occurs to him, and he asks before he really thinks about it, because that's how Poe rolls. ]

Hahah, you're good. I was definitely born 100% human though, nothing weird there. If I'm honest, I'm not entirely sure how I'd classify myself now? I got bit by this spider a couple years back, and my body just... changed? Mutated? I'm cutting you off now before you pull out some puberty joke.

We've got animals like that where I'm from. Bites or stings that change people. Usually less useful than murder-y.

Well, there's this beetle on one planet that's really not human-friendly. It bites you and you basically turn into mold.

[ Poe scratches his chin thoughtfully. ] And there's this big long hornet that can spray you with a poison that sticks you to the nearest surface, so it can inject its eggs inside you and turn you into a nest. Oh, and this other bug where in the larval stage it has a sting that desiccates your body. That one doesn't discriminate by species. There's this other one too--

[ Stop him Peter he will just continue reciting horrifying Star Wars nature facts until you do. ]

[ Poe grins at Peter. ] Traveling to different planets, you learn to pay attention to the tourism brochures. Where are grew up, there are swarms of beetles that can strip a runyip to bones in less than five minutes.

[ He scratches his chin. ] Those things are a nightmare. Gross, sure, but they're a plague on cattle ranchers.

Ooookay, that is horrifying. God, those poor space cows. What planet is that, so I know never to go to it?

[Like yeah the terror bugs sound cool but NOOOOPE]

Hey! [ Full offense. ] Yavin 4 is beautiful. The wildlife isn't all unfriendly. We've got jungles that go for miles, and the Massassi temple ruins right outside of town. They're amazing. Not to mention the Prisma Storms--the whole sky lit up with sheets and swirls of rainbows. Yavin 4 is the most beautiful place in the galaxy. A few bugs can't change that.

I'm sure it's beautiful, but you lead with flesh eating beetles! It kind of makes me real concerned about what happened to the other three Yavins!

I'm kidding, it actually does sound really nice. It must be awesome, being able to see different planets and stuff. I mean, I've seen a couple? But besides Earth they all kind of sucked.

[ Poe shakes his head. Planet dirt. ]

It is. Pretty awesome, I mean. I used to take it for granted. [ He looks up wistfully at the stars. ] I haven't been able to get out there in more than a year. Never going to take that for granted again.

I hope we can get you back there some time.

[Peter isn't so sure he can go home, but getting other people back to their planets is something he can at least try to find a way to do.]

[ Homesick A F all over again thanks universe-hopping. ]

Thanks. [ He shakes himself out of it--both literally and figuratively--then gives Peter a curious look. ] What about you? Don't you have things to get back to?

I-- well, I mean, doesn't everybody?

[That's kind of an answer??? right?????]

Well, yeah, I imagine they probably do.

[ Most people, anyway. People who weren't like Jyn and Cassian, given a second chance at life in a new universe, with no reason to go back to their deaths. ]

But you said "I hope we can get you back there." Don't you want to leave yourself?

I do, I do. It's just, um...

[He gives Poe a little half shrug and seems to have suddenly found his hands fascinating because he's just straight up avoiding eye contact while he tries to think up how to word this.]

Things weren't... great back home, and I can't... I can't fix them. Kind of above my pay grade.

[ Poe feels a twinge, both of guilt and sadness. That's as good a reason as any to stay away from a person's original universe. ]

Have you thought about going back with someone else? The last place I was, they could do that.

[ Or he assumed they could really do it. There's some doubt there, now. ]

[Also he's super dead, which kind of complicates things. Just a bit.]

I've thought about it, but I have no idea where I'd go. I've got a friend who doesn't want to go back to her world either, but she wants to come with me to mine and I'm like... I mean, I don't think I can go back at all so that wouldn't work. So I guess I'd have to find someone willing to bring back two people.

[ Also, that.

In fact, the I don't think I can go back at all gives Poe pause. It makes him think of Cassian and Jyn all over again. The narration apologizes for what's about to happen, because Poe Dameron has no tact whatsoever.

Quietly: ]

Peter, are you dead? I mean. You're obviously not dead, not here, but I had some friends who died in their universe. Who couldn't go back because of that.

[ Another pause. ]

You and your friend could come with me and Finn, if you wanted to. It wouldn't be easy. We're in the middle of a war. You wouldn't have to stay with us, but you know what it's like to learn to live in a different world. The option's there if you want it.

[Peter finally looks up, and then looks over his shoulder to see where the rest of the party is. "By the way I'm Spider-Man" isn't a secret he's too concerned with keeping these days, but "by the way I'm dead" is something that he doesn't really want just anyone knowing. Weird priorities, Pete.

Once he's sure nobody else is listening, he turns back to Poe.]

Don't... don't tell anyone.

[Which is basically confirmation for "YEP I'M SUPER DEAD"]

[ Poe gives him a sort of one-armed hug, a tight squeeze that's as much for himself as for Peter. He's known too many people who have died way too young. The Resistance is full of children, young rebels, many of whom he's trained himself. There are plenty of pilots and soldiers like him, people frustrated by the inaction of the New Republic, but Leia told him once that rebellion is a young person's game. He didn't get it, not really, not when they had a legend at the helm. Now he does, a little bit. ]

You're welcome. I wish I could offer better than another war.

[Peter smiles slightly, giving Poe a little nod. Thanks for not spilling his dead boy secrets, Poe. And for the hug, Pete doesn't get enough hugs.]

It's fine, man. And honestly, someone like me would probably be a big help.

[ It isn't. It isn't fine. He wants to tell Peter as much, but that argument brings way too much of Poe's own baggage to the forefront. He doesn't need to offload his feelings onto a kid who's already got more going on than he can probably handle. ]

Probably. Force knows we could use all the help we can get.

[It's all good Poe bro, everybody's got baggage these days. Peter handles his mostly by ignoring it, that totally works right]

I've got some experience? Not on like, a full scale war sort of level, but I have had to deal with some fate of the universe stuff before. It's kinda freaky.

[ That startles a small laugh out of Poe, a kind of puh of amusement. ]

Before all this I thought 'fate of the galaxy' was as big as this stuff got. Sounds like one hell of a story though, if you ever feel like telling it.
