Intro Log: Ten Thousand Lightning Bugs

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for May.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: May 10th-16th
Warnings: Confused newbies, pretty fireflies, stuff getting lit on fire

Awakening in Hadriel is perhaps not the most wonderful thing, but as you pry yourself off the hard ground of the colosseum, you may notice that the Door (or possibly one of the gods?) has seen fit to provide you with a little entertainment. Scattered across the ground are a number of handheld video games. These cheap pieces of shit lovingly crafted products can each provide you with whole minutes of entertainment, at least until you get frustrated and smash them to pieces. Have fun!

But not too much fun. If you get too involved in that game, you might miss the approach of some glowing little creatures - guardian fireflies, from the movie Atlantis. Should they land on anything flammable - and yes, that includes you and your hair - it'll burst into flames. Smash them, and they'll explode in a tiny ball of flame, too. There'll be a couple hundred of these things flying around Hadriel, so let's hope you left your stash of gunpowder at home. With the window closed.

Once you've stopped dropped and rolled, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers May 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

If nothing else, Damen admired her sentiment.

"You won't have any choice," he said. His words were blunt, though not without sympathy. He, personally, would resist every inch of the gods' control if he could. It was just that experience had taught him this was impossible. "They are able to cause those feelings within us. We serve them whether we want to or not."

They were slaves, essentially.

It hadn't been so long ago that Damen wore the gold collar that marked him as a slave. He still wore one of the golden cuffs around his left wrist, to remind him of all he'd learned in that time. He had sworn to end slavery, and yet here he was, once again trapped in a place he didn't want to be, serving masters who would rip him apart to get what they wanted.

He didn't intend on being cruel. He just needed Ai to see the danger she was in. It was better to be prepared, if nothing else.

She never liked being told what to feel. They were her emotions.

Ai frowns. She turns to study a shelf of canned food just to have a moment to put her thoughts in order. To feel the annoyance and then box it up without anyone seeing. "Jerks." She mutters so very eloquently.

Isn't that fabulous. Being a slave. Not that she has any experience, but she's read about it plenty in her history classes.

She sees the danger of sorts. She was just sheltered by comparison, Ai was well aware of that. Even with the murders that took place all year at home, she'd only ever been the victim of bullying compared to anything truly terrible. That was hardly enough to prepare her for running from things that want to ear her or god's forcing feelings on her.

Not an insult that Damen knew. It didn't matter. Her tone conveyed meaning easily enough, and given how her mood had lowered, he thought that she'd gotten the message.

"I didn't say it to be cruel," he said, more gently. "I said it because you should prepare yourself. We have to bear what they do while we're here. It won't be forever."

That was what he had told himself when he was a slave in Vere, and it was what he told himself about Hadriel now.

This would not last. A chance for escape would come, if not now then soon.

She turns to look back at him and nods slowly. "Thank you, I think.

She hopes it won't be forever. She's only been here a short while and she already misses the sun. It's a lot to adjust too, not that she's incapable of doing so, it's just this is not how she expected Yu's last day in Inaba to go.

Hopefully, she'd get to go home soon and not miss out on seeing him off.
