Oh shit, what even happened last night? You're pretty sure you had a normal night, no crazy drunk antics (unless that is your normal night). But this morning you woke up with a brand new tattoo, and it's... a name?
Maybe it's a name you recognize, one of your good friends. Maybe it's a stranger. Maybe it's someone you can barely stand. No matter who it is, you kind of feel like you should look for them and figure out what's going on with this weird tattoo. And when you find them - well, they've got one too, except this one is your name. It would seem weird, except as soon as you see each other you kind of understand. Of course you'd have a tattoo with the name of the person you've found such an amazing connection with. You were meant to be together.
So enjoy your time with your newfound soulmate. Who knows, you might wake up tomorrow with a whole new name on your arm, a new connection, a new love. Make the most of it!► This log covers February 14th-February 22nd
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you try to pull off a stupid stunt to impress your soulmate and fail so miserably you die, please let us know here.

[He doesn't know exactly what Wash said but it doesn't really sound all that good. It's usually not when you're actively trying not to be someone anymore. Either way, he silently hopes he's...okay? Is that the word? He seems okay. Shit.]
Earth? Oh, yeah, a few times. I liked to vacation there whenever I had time off. I usually went to Australia...there was this one beach I loved to surf at. [He clears his throat again. Christ, shut the fuck up, Scott.] Why?

[ Wash has never tried that... he thinks he might have liked it if he got the chance, but there's not oceans on every colony world. Wait, back on track. ]
I was just wondering if you'd figured out Washington was a code name.

[A lot before he left the Milky Way, anyhow. And "a lot" by his standards probably wasn't all that much compared to people who weren't stationed somewhere in the middle of nowhere...in space.]
...Oh. [Oooh. He laughs at himself again, because that's pretty blatant now that he thinks about it.] Okay, that makes sense. But in my defense it is a name. Maybe not as common anymore, but...
[Shut up. Shut up, Scott.]
Anyway. I like it. It suits you.

[ God they're awkward. This is awkward x awkward. Awkward squared, and he's never felt quite this way around Scott before but he'll be damned if he lets the gods win at whatever game they're playing. Wash seizes on the previous topic instead, since he has something kind of similar he can talk about. ]
I skateboard. I mean, not right now, since there's so much snow, but... I do.

He feels like his compliment doesn't land so well but that's...totally fine. Luckily the topic shifts to something that he hopes he can't possibly fuck up. In fact, his weird awkward nervousness is momentarily pushed aside in favor of pleasant surprise.]
Really? [He wouldn't have pegged Wash as a skateboarder. The thought forces a smile to tug at his lips, no matter how hard he tries to fight it back. It's not the same sport but it's similar enough that Scott is going to count that as common ground. Skateboarding is just surfing on land and surfing is just skateboarding on water...right? Right.] That's pretty awesome. How long have you been doing it for?
no subject
Since I was a kid. I got my first board when I was eight... actually, I hadn't done it in years until my last one showed up here. Apparently you don't forget how.
Surfing seems harder, honestly, you don't have as much control as boarding.

It's definitely a learning curve. But that's what makes it so exciting. Some of the best moments were when I wiped out completely over, say...catching the perfect tube.
But uh...too bad there isn't a flat enough surface around here. I'd like to see you skate. [Wait. That was meant to sound more playful. In a friendly way.] I mean, I'd pay to see that.
[No, that just sounds mocking. That sounds mocking, right?]
Uh, I bet you're incredible. At it.
[You know what else is incredible? That thing on the other side of the room that Scott is going to suddenly focus on. Yeah.]

He recovers pretty well, though, for being so flustered. ]
Back on the desert planet I set up a mini skate park with crates and boards. There wasn't really room on the islands, though, and you can't board in snow. Well. [ He corrects himself. ] I'd try snowboarding if the mountains weren't so far away and so rocky. It's not ideal.
no subject
Yeah. Too dangerous. I wasn't on the islands long enough to think, "wow, I'm catching the hell out of these waves" either. There's always ice skating...but I've never actually...done that. Much less without actual ice skates.
[Is he rambling? He feels like he's rambling. He should stop rambling. Of course now that he stopped rambling he's just awkwardly silent and staring down at his lap. Which means he's staring down at his wrist. And now he can't stop staring at the name on said wrist.]
no subject
[ Ice skating, huh..? ]
I've been ice skating, when I was a kid. And kinda used that as practice on sidewinder -- it's an ice planet, you skid a lot if you're not over the snow. We could try it on one of the lakes here, maybe. Or ask a god for skates.
[ He's not sure what they'd want in return but right now if Scott wanted skates, he'd have skates.
Wash is about to say something else when he notices Scott's gaze has shifted back to his own wrist... and Wash's name there. He can't tell if the other man is upset about it or not. ]
You okay there? It'll probably be gone by morning.
no subject
Who needs skates anyway, right? [See?? Though that isn't as bad as surfing with jagged rocks everywhere.] I think it'd be nice to—["to try it with you" he almost says, but cuts himself off.] To try. It'd be nice.
[Alas, he finally tears his gaze from his wrist and looks back over to Wash. He seems to struggle with his words for a moment, as if he has a billion options he's cycling through before he settles for something fairly simple.]
It doesn't bother me.
