Have you been having trouble getting a good night's sleep? Tossing and turning, unable to rest those tired eyes? Or maybe you don't sleep at all, and never have. Not to worry! For a little while, you'll have no trouble at all falling asleep - in fact, as night falls, you'll find yourself overwhelmed with exhaustion whether you want to sleep or not. Lay down and rest your weary head, friends. Everyone could use a little extra sleep.
But what will your dreams bring? Something happy, images of a perfect day? Something hopeful, something you've wanted for a long time? Maybe you'll dream of anger, of the face of your worst enemy. Or maybe - just maybe - you'll have a horrific nightmare, and wake screaming, covered in cold sweat.
Not before others have time to see it, though. As you sleep, as you dream, the other residents of Hadriel, friends and enemies and people you've only met once, might find their way into your dreams. Or you might find your way into theirs - and then have to deal with someone's else's nightmares, or hopes, or anger. For the next ten nights, you'll find yourself either a host or a visitor, and no matter how you try you won't be able to stay awake once night falls.
Sweet dreams, Hadriel. Don't let the asshole fear gods bite.► This log covers May 16th-26th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► You can't die in the dreams, but if you somehow manage to trip and fall and kill yourself getting out of bed, please report it on the death post.

no, it isn't. his name is peter rumancek and he stands in a room as barren of life as a room can be with living people in it, and he sees maketh there with a gun in her hand, aiming for a blind woman, helpless even in her rage.]
Maketh, what are you doing?
no subject
[Her mother's head whips around at the noise, dog-like. Listening intently. Once, the woman known as Maize Rosen had been a bounty hunter known on a thousand stars, wanted by half and ignored by the rest. Later, a hero of the Clone Wars. Now a prisoner of the Empire.
It must be done. It has to be done, and Maketh swallows hard. Her hands are not shaking. They are not.]
no subject
You have orders to kill an unarmed blind woman? What kind of orders are those?
no subject
[Maketh feels a shudder ripping through her chest, everything painfully tight. Her father stays down on the ground, head bowed under the bag. Quiet and compliant. But her mother - oh, her mother wants to fight. Even with her hands chained, she wants to fight.
Maketh swallows hard. She's crying now, it can't be helped.] Mother, I'm sorry.
no subject
[peter puts a hand over his mouth, going pale like he might be sick. maketh had said she fought for the wrong side for so long, but this? this is too much.]
How...why?
no subject
[The orders are the only thing that matter.
Her mother takes a step forward, then another, listening carefully.] Maketh?
[It hurts so much more when she speaks. Maketh wipes at her face, trying to stop the tears. Too late.] No, no, I--
[She has to. She has to. There's no choice.]
no subject
[he doesn't know what to say. he doesn't know why he's here, why he has to see this, why the pretty woman he'd met in delight's bar would ever do something like this. would shoot her own parents in cold blood. for orders.]
no subject
No, no, no. It can't be like this.]
Maketh.
[But her mother is speaking, with that smooth, low accent that Maketh has tried so hard to destroy in herself. She can't do this. She can't do this in front of Peter.] Y--you can't be here, they'll kill you....
[Her mother is holding her now, strong arms wrapped around her neck, forehead bumping against Maketh's. Somehow her mother is not afraid. Her mother is afraid of nothing.] Please, please....
no subject
[it's cruel and peter knows it, but this is unthinkable. he can't just let her kill her family. there's no taking that back.]
Think for yourself, Maketh. Before it's too late.
no subject
[He can't see this. Peter shouldn't be here at all. No one is supposed to see this test. It's meant to be private, a thing done in the dark so that her superiors might finally take honest measure of her. It must be done. There is no choice.
Maketh shudders. Her mother is rubbing her back.
It's not supposed to be like this. It's supposed to hurt, but not this much.
The blaster slips from her hands. Maketh's knees buckle in the same moment.]
no subject
[how did he come here? what is he doing here? why is this happening?
maketh drops the gun. she falls to the ground and the blind woman--her mother--drops to her knees as well, cradling her daughter. peter holds his breath.]
no subject
It's over now. Maketh sags against her mother, feeling sick to her stomach and suddenly tired. Peter isn't supposed to be here. He isn't supposed to see this, to know this moment even happened in the first place.
Maketh wipes at her eyes.] You have to go. You have to go before they come looking.
no subject
[it's a closed room, locked doors, everything cold metal. no escape.]
I'm not afraid of dying, Maketh. Not for a reason.
no subject
[She's dead now, Maketh knows. She failed and she's going to be shot for it, feels the inevitability stuck in her stomach like a rock; unmovable and cold. She'll be shot along with her parents. That's how this moment ends. This is how it goes. The Empire has no room for weakness. But Peter - he's not part of the Empire, he can leave, he doesn't have to be here. He doesn't have to die. ]
no subject
[which is true, he doesn't.]
Don't worry. Dying only hurts for a little while. Living with things you've done is much harder.
no subject
[Maketh feels her mother's hands in her hair, petting. How strange to be forgiven. Her mother hasn't said a word, but that's what this is.] I'm....I'm sorry...
[The door opens. She hears boots clicking against the metal floor, the guards lining up. Maketh keeps her eyes closed. She doesn't feel the shot, but she hears it.]
no subject
he hears them, one, two, three...four. it takes time to die, it hurts. but not for too long.
he wakes in a cold sweat, in his own bed, newt breathing next to him.]
