Have you been having trouble getting a good night's sleep? Tossing and turning, unable to rest those tired eyes? Or maybe you don't sleep at all, and never have. Not to worry! For a little while, you'll have no trouble at all falling asleep - in fact, as night falls, you'll find yourself overwhelmed with exhaustion whether you want to sleep or not. Lay down and rest your weary head, friends. Everyone could use a little extra sleep.
But what will your dreams bring? Something happy, images of a perfect day? Something hopeful, something you've wanted for a long time? Maybe you'll dream of anger, of the face of your worst enemy. Or maybe - just maybe - you'll have a horrific nightmare, and wake screaming, covered in cold sweat.
Not before others have time to see it, though. As you sleep, as you dream, the other residents of Hadriel, friends and enemies and people you've only met once, might find their way into your dreams. Or you might find your way into theirs - and then have to deal with someone's else's nightmares, or hopes, or anger. For the next ten nights, you'll find yourself either a host or a visitor, and no matter how you try you won't be able to stay awake once night falls.
Sweet dreams, Hadriel. Don't let the asshole fear gods bite.► This log covers May 16th-26th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► You can't die in the dreams, but if you somehow manage to trip and fall and kill yourself getting out of bed, please report it on the death post.

Orion looks like he's about to say something, pauses, and then seemingly retracts his unspoken statement.
"If you must know, I currently work with Chicago's auxiliary task force," he says instead, ignoring Rey's comment.
Like sister, like brother?
But before a theme can be noticed, Rey adds: "Before that, he was a professional poker player."
Nothing shady about that.

"I've seen way less funny comics," she states, answering Rey's comment rather than the job descriptions.

Perhaps it was an insult thinly masked as a compliment. Or perhaps Orion can't tell the difference. Maybe he just doesn't give a shit. Who knows?
Rey scratches her forehead, trying to think of something to say between bites of rice. "So, um... What about you? What you do, that is."

He's just grasping at something interesting here. Even Rey feels like there may be something more to it than that, given the answer. But she currently has a mouthful of bao to find the time to inquire about this.

"What else is good to do around here?" Because she's not all that familiar with this neck of the woods, now she thinks about it.

Rey, on the other hand, seems reluctant to say anything, before she just blurts, "Jazz festivals. They have some pretty nice ones here, among other things. But most of the city events are during the summertime." And it's winter now, which reduces the variety of things to do here significantly.
Her brother shoots her a cagey look then, brow arched. Now he's the one who looks more than wary to speak, since that would involve bringing up the fact that Rey isn't usually supposed to leave the safety of their 'home' on her own. In front of a stranger, no less.

(Even if siblings will always be a loose term, rather than literal.)
"They expensive?" The festivals, that is. Even if they are in summer- well, it'd be nice to know. If she ever does come back. "Or just turn up and--?"
no subject
Asshole.
Rey sighs, stuffing her mouth full of dumplings as she talks. Table manners, this one does not have. Orion doesn't seem remotely daunted by it, being so used to the unsightly spectacle.
"Not really. Some of them are free. Others you can just experience from a distance, or find higher ground where you can listen. Have done that before."
"That doesn't sound very economically ethical to me," Orion points out, though he's obviously just giving her shit for it.
"Like you're one to talk."

Rey scoffs and washes down her food with tea, now becoming lukewarm.
"Yes, the music was sometimes hit or miss," Rey replies, disregarding her brother's sardonic response.

If only you knew the half of it, Orion.Kate drains her drink with the practice of someone who does that a lot."Like a test drive, innit?" She leans against the table, holding the glass by the rim. "Gotta try it out before you drop the money."
no subject
Let's be real, he really has no room to judge."Didn't always have the money to drop on those events, either." Mostly because that required sleight of hand when taking funds from either her father or brother...
Not that Orion is aware of that. Though now he seems to be having his suspicions. He doesn't voice this, however, as he contemptuous bite of a pot sticker and chews slowly, his pale green eyes narrowing.

Damn right.Kate gives that comment a nod of agreement. It's a serious problem for people. She pushes the last of her food around before taking a bite more and pushing herself back from the table with an exhale. "That was great. I'm stuffed."
