Event Log: Dreamwalker

Where: In your comfy bed and your sleepy head.

Warnings: Good dreams, weird dreams, bad dreams, straight-up nightmares. Please remember to tag for warnings in the header if things are going to be bad!

Have you been having trouble getting a good night's sleep? Tossing and turning, unable to rest those tired eyes? Or maybe you don't sleep at all, and never have. Not to worry! For a little while, you'll have no trouble at all falling asleep - in fact, as night falls, you'll find yourself overwhelmed with exhaustion whether you want to sleep or not. Lay down and rest your weary head, friends. Everyone could use a little extra sleep.

But what will your dreams bring? Something happy, images of a perfect day? Something hopeful, something you've wanted for a long time? Maybe you'll dream of anger, of the face of your worst enemy. Or maybe - just maybe - you'll have a horrific nightmare, and wake screaming, covered in cold sweat.

Not before others have time to see it, though. As you sleep, as you dream, the other residents of Hadriel, friends and enemies and people you've only met once, might find their way into your dreams. Or you might find your way into theirs - and then have to deal with someone's else's nightmares, or hopes, or anger. For the next ten nights, you'll find yourself either a host or a visitor, and no matter how you try you won't be able to stay awake once night falls.

Sweet dreams, Hadriel. Don't let the asshole fear gods bite.

[Noah grins a bit and ducks his head in a sort of apologetic manner. Sort of, because it's less apologetic for the action and more for the being caught doing it. He whispers the next part to Dean, again, not terribly quiet.]

Tell you later, okay? You just worry about getting the shifting between gears down.

[ Don't even be apologetic bro, Dean can really only care so much about what his daddy thinks. Because even though he's a good little soldier, he still chooses to rebel in his own quiet ways. Which is why he's grinning way too much to himself. ]

Yeah, you got it-

[ Vroom vroom. Watch him speed up a little and then cram it into the next gear, lacking any kind of finesse. ]

[Noah laughs his peculiar breathless laugh again at Dean’s response. This is a nice dream, and he’ll be content to give Dean pointers for driving the stick shift for the rest of the night.

It’s weird, because he recognizes Sam, so he knows Dean has to be older than this, but having ‘met’ Dean this way it’s going to be really difficult for him to wrap his head around ‘this guy is way taller and older than me’.

That’s a problem he can deal with when he wakes up, though.]

[ It's one of the few dreams he has about a life that does not exist. One where he goes back home to a mother and a little brother he doesn't have to teach how to handle a .45 just because the boogie man might be hiding in his closet. But that's nothing Dean is thinking about right now because as long as he's got his father's ride, everything is gonna be fine. ]

You're riding shotgun next.

[ Because as much as he loves his Dad, Dean is not the best at making friends in any goddamn universe and any opportunity he can get to bond is one he's snagging. Even though Sammy can already be heard bitching at the prospect while his father looks anything but alright with this turn of events.... ]

[Noah can understand that, being the shy and easy target for bullying type. It's rare he finds someone he's comfortable with right away. So he leans forward again, and in an effort to appease the Dad,]

If it's any consolation, I got great grades. My school kicked out anyone who dropped below a B. Very competitive.

[Noah technically didn't graduate, sure, but that was out of his control. His grades were great before he got his face bashed in with a skateboard and listed as a missing person while his corpse decayed in the forest.]

[ Dean is generally in the same predicament - too good at wooing people he doesn't particularly care about and sitting on the outskirts, even in this version of his normal life. So to make a bud lickity split is something of a miracle. Though, John leans across and elbows Dean in the ribs: 'At least someone around here gets good grades. Sounds like he might be a good influence--' ]

Oh c'mon, we all know half the crap they teach is bullshit anyway.

[ Oops, grinding gears, give him a second, one more... okay, we're in the clear. ]

Vitam regit fortuna, non sapientia.

[The Latin is easy to recite - because said competitive school was fancy rich boy school and taught things like Latin and French.]

I also helped another friend of mine learn stick shift recently, she did very well on her driver's test.

[That's possibly an exaggeration. Noah can't actually remember if she's taken it yet or not and how she did. Probably passed. Gansey also helped her.]

[ Fancy rich boy school is fancy but Dean cocks his head back towards Noah- ] What he said.

[ And no, he has no fucking clue what he just said, but that's hardly the point. The kid's on his side, no matter which way he looks at it, Dean's sure of it. And that's the only thing that matters. ]

Yeah, look- I could just let you out here, Dad. Take Sammy with you, we'd be back in no time.

[ Insert award winning Dean Winchester grin here, Sam whining prolifically and his father looking... moderately like he might be willing to give in. ] C'mon, i'll make you proud.

[Noah feels a little bad for Sam, here, but not bad enough to stop.]

Just around the block and back, promise. The practice will be good for him.

[And then, a whisper aside which he hopes Dean won't contradict,] I think you being here might be making him a little nervous, since he clearly wants to impress you so much. Give him a chance, yeah? I'll be right here. My driving record is also totally clean.

[Because he was best friends with the asshole who bribed every cop in town.]

[ Sometimes Dean feels kind of bad for Sammy being left out, but this time not so much - he'll get his turn when he's bigger. 'Sides, it's not like he doesn't take care of him the rest of the time.

But no okay, he doesn't contradict it. Even if he does roll his eyes a little bit, not wanting to admit that his Dad being around is a nerve wracking thing if only because this car? Is the third baby of the family and while Dean's sure he's not gonna ruin it, it's by far harder to concentrate when he's being watched by particularly intent hawk.

Which is why Dean heaves an eager breath when John finally lifts his hands and surrenders, tells Dean to pull off to the side so they can get out, which Dean does as the car stutters to a stop all over again. Hey, he's trying. ]

Don't worry so much, Dad- we got it.

Totally got it, no problems at all, I’ll be right here with him.

[Noah’s all ‘you can trust me, authority figure!’ smile, which he learned from Gansey. He climbs out of the back and quickly takes up the shotgun seat, buckling his seatbelt and everything.]

How old’s this car anyway? It’s hella classic.

[ Who knows if John actually trusts the kid, that's a question to be asked for another day, but Dean's all grins by the time Noah makes it up to the front seat, preparing himself for the first gear process all over again. ]

It's a '67. Dad's first car, but you'd think it was actually his firstborn.

First car, firstborn, same difference right? Totally older than I am, anyway.

[Okay maybe that's not something you say to the actual firstborn, but whatever. He attentively waits for Dean to start working with the gears again. Look, yes he is totally here to shoot the shit and all that but he is also intending to make good on the promise to help with it.]

[ He'll get there, he will! He swears! He just has to stall it two more times, grumbling under his breath each time he has to restart the ignition. Though, it's partially because he's distracted by conversation but that he honestly doesn't mind.]

You and me both. Still- not gonna let some raggedy ass shitmobile be my first car. Not when this thing is sittin' in the garage.

[Noah tries to not be a distraction! He murmurs some encouragement in any case, as well as any advice he can give. 'ease up on that, wait a second before you try again', that kind of deal.]

Whaaaat, you don't dream of owning a third hand '91 Honda civic after learning to drive on this? I'm shocked, totally shocked.

[Noah grins.]

[ Are we back into second gear by now? Yes we are indeed, how so helpful Noah. And Dean might almost be laughing, that highly amused head shaking thing he does. ]

God, kill me now. Why's it always gotta be a goddamn Civic? Or a fuckin'- I don't know, 90's-something Subaru from Hell.

[ Opinions: Dean has them. ]

[Noah is laughing, all mild and easygoing. He's here for encouragement and direction, but if Dean stalls out the car he finds it more funny than anything else.]

Oh man, my friend Adam - he got this real junker of a car. Long story, but that thing's been remade so many times it's got at least three cars in there. A chimera of cars. Ronan calls it the Hondayota. When he's not calling it the shitbox.

[ That's because you're mean and terrible, Noah, obviously. But no okay, Dean probably has it by now, with a significant amount of nose scrunching before he's finally able to get it to purr along happily. ]

Is it one'a those cars that got like- every door's a different color?

[Noah is definitely mean and terrible. He's mellowed out from being kind of a hyperactive shitbag since he died, but it comes back now and again.]

I think the two back ones are the same color. Maybe. But basically, yeah.
