You wake up cold and in the snow-covered dirt. Hope you have warm clothes with you, because it's freezing outside- but that's not your only thing to worry about. Contrasting with the pure white of the snow and slush are strange shadows that seem to glide across the frozen wasteland just outside of your peripheral vision. Whatever these beings are, they're not friendly, and simply being near one of them is enough to spiral you into a depression, as if you'll never be happy again. Get too close and you begin to relive the worst memories of your life- get even closer and they might just steal your soul away.
Dementors are wraithlike creatures from the Harry Potter franchise, who can drain the happiness of everyone around them before closing in to suck their soul out through their mouths- ew. While ordinarily only wizards can see them, these particular dementors are somewhat visible to the untrained eye, if only as shadows and dark flickers of movement.
But it's not all bad around here! While you're feeling kind of blue, there's also some toys and various plastic nonsense that looks like consolation prizes one might get from a very tacky dining experience.
Once you've finished indulging your 90's nostalgia, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers March 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

science lab,
Uh. [ Well. At least that is something she can do around this place. The smell hasn't escaped her though; more than anyone, Rose recognizes the tinge of tin and it calls back a certain taste on her tongue. She shakes her head to try to dispel that train of thought and refocus on the moment. ]
Sure thing, lady. Just let me know what you need.
no subject
[Brisk and sharp, but not necessarily directed towards Rose so much as in general. A beaker of something viscous and semi-clear is offered, and finally Rosalind glances up, blazing red eyes taking in her new assistant.]
Hold this. I'm going to pour something, and I need you to pour yours as I do, all at the same time. Can you do that?
no subject
She also doesn't seem concerned at all about those eyes. In her world, they mean something entirely different than to most people; she's learned in her years of doing this multiversal displacement thing everyone's from somewhere different enough you shouldn't assume shit. ]
Yeah, sounds easy- Signal me when ready. [ She holds up her obtained beaker carefully. But then a thought occurs. ] This won't explode though, right? Like, if it does that's fine I just need some warning. [ Her personal experiences with any form of science have included 1) constructing a bomb and 2) not a whole lot else. ]
no subject
[Which would be very depressing, frankly. Rosalind counts down softly, three-two-one, grimacing just slightly as they pour together. The resulting liquid becomes far thicker, going into something just shy of a gel, before it slowly (slowly!) begins to shrink.]
Right. Thank you. That ought to be enough; now it simply has to sit for a few hours.
Is this your lab?
no subject
[ Huh.
That's anticlimactic. It hasn't yet occurred to Rose that science isn't generally the limited explosive experiences she's had with it. The woman gives an undignified snort at the question of if this is her lab though. ]
Nah, [ she says, as if that wasn't answer enough. ] It was made by Newt and Hermann but Alphys oversees most things now. And a different Newt, not the one that first set it all up. Same guy, different reality. [ She says it with a tone that reads 'that just happens sometimes.' ]
no subject
Very far from it. The third.
[Officially, anyway. The ones she and Robert had visited don't count.]
It rather loses the shock and awe after the second.
no subject
Yeah, right? Same hat here. Well, this is my fourth reality- Technically. It's a long story.
no subject
I hardly have anywhere else to be, and I need to wait for this to solidify.
[She glances around, tugging a stool over, taking a seat with prim grace.]
no subject
[ She isn't expecting someone to actually indulge her. Most people just kind of skip the backstory. Rose guesses it makes more sense since this woman has been there done that so there are not a million questions that come with the first displacement.
The blond leans against one of the countertops, getting settled in to talk probably more than she has in some time. ]
Right, so. In Japanese mythology, there're three worlds. Human, Spirit, Demon. They're all separate but tethered together. So not sure if it technically counts but Demon to Human realm was my first hop.
no subject
[Demon, she thinks, because she lists that world first, but who knows.]
no subject
[ It's still wild sometimes to think that she never would have even told someone that a few years ago. ]
Not like hell demons though. There're all kinds but we're basically creatures born of humankind's negative emotions. My kind have to do with fear of crossing mountain paths at night and being eaten by wolves. So, y'know. [ A vague point to her ears. ]
no subject
I see.
Is there a particular reason you keep yourself hidden? Or is it simply a desire to fit in?
no subject
Habit, mostly. My kind sometimes eat people so back home, if it was known I was a demon it wouldn't go well for me. Torches and pitchforks.
And since I liked people more than my own kind, yeah, I kind of wanted to blend in better.
no subject
Well. I can't sense anything from you, so it's a rather good illusion.
[gurl you've been a vampire for like two weeks settle down]
no subject
[ Which is hardly anything at all for her kind, but- Details! ]
You're a vampire, yeah? Haven't met a whole lot, but they have some universal traits across worlds.
no subject
[ros you're TWO WEEKS OLD stop acting like you know shit]
Are there any others here?
no subject
[ There used to be more people in general. It feels like a nice little community they have these days, but- No denying that numbers have dwindled. ]
People come and go so much I stopped keeping too close attention after a bit.
no subject
[She thinks some kind of way about that, but she won't say anything just yet.]
Do you know what other non-humans there are? Even if they're not vampiric.
no subject
All kinds of non-humans, really.

The Null are... a different story. They're kind of a hivemind, I think?
