Event Log: Predator vs. Prey

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Predator vs Prey event
Where: All over the city
When: March 13th-March 21st
Warnings: None

It all starts with an explosion, because Rage is excellent at managing her anger. But an explosion isn't enough - she hasn't worked out all her feeling yet. Not until the city itself has gotten caught up in her anger at Fear for being unable to save Delight. And yeah, that means you.

So now you're a predator (Rage) or prey (Fear). You want to hunt, or you're being hunted. Maybe you were defenseless before, or maybe you're the sort who no one could be afraid of... but it's different now, because the gods are passing on their blessings to you. All the better to catch and kill, or run and hide.

What will you do? Try to resist the urge? Good luck with that. Who would want to resist, anyway, when it feels so right to give in? Hunt someone down like a cat after a mouse, or flee like a deer before wolves. Maybe you can find someone to help you, whether that means hunting in packs or looking for safety in numbers. Who knows, maybe you'll even make a few new friends while trying to kill your old ones.

► This log covers March 13th-March 21st.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get caught by a predator or have things turned on you by your prey, please let us know here.

Sit down, then.

[She gathers bandages and antiseptic, cotton balls and water. There's the same sharp practicality in her movements, the same brisk style of talking-- but there's differences as well. Something, if not softer, at least a little less untouchable than the figure Elizabeth had seen months ago.]

. . . I imagine you have questions. But answer mine first, and then I promise you, I'll tell you what you wish to know.

How long have you been here? And what's the last thing you remember?
isochrone: (starlight whatever recalls a woman)

[ Elizabeth certainly does have questions, but she'll acquisece to the request to answer Rosalind's first. ]

I've been here just over two months.

And I was... in Battleship Bay, after the tower came down. After we met you, and I got my necklace.

[ She touches the bird emblem on the pendant. Technically the last thing she remembered was setting off with him to find the First Lady Airship so they could head to Paris, but she doesn't want Rosalind to know that. ]
originallutece: NOBODY'S FLUSTERED STOP TALKING (talk; i'm not flustered you're flustered)

Ah.

[Ah. Her eyes dart up, and she hates herself a little for the way her heart skips a beat. Any connection with Robert leaves her aching nowadays, and how stupid, how utterly pathetic, but here they are. Rosalind sits down next to her, beckoning for her arm, putting antiseptic on a cotton ball.]

. . . well. Welcome to the practical version of the multiverse theory. You've read my book-- I assume you know what's happening, why these people are so different from you, things like that.

[ Elizabeth nods, holding out her arm so that Rosalind can clean the gash that's carved into her forearm. Indeed she's read that book, cover to cover multiple times, but living it is something new entirely. ]

I'd gathered, yes. It certainly made arriving here a little... easier. AS easy as it can be to experience something like this.
originallutece: no i heard you robert i understood it i'm just waiting to see if you're done (talk; robert just made a pun)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-03-19 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. It's rather a sharp shock the first time.

[Slender fingers, cold fingers, wrap around Elizabeth's forearm, keeping her steady. The other puts a cotton ball full of antiseptic to that wound, wiping away dried blood, her gaze locked on the wound.]

. . . go on. Ask, and I'll answer. At least until I dress your wounds.
isochrone: (crosses embroidered with relics)

[personal profile] isochrone 2019-03-25 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
The first time??

[ Elizabeth bites her lip at the sting of Rosalind's ministrations, but she's otherwise good about it. How to put this delicately... ]

You... seem to have changed from the last time I saw you.
originallutece: they're all we have to go on (robert; words words)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-03-25 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Very much so.

[She at least isn't overly aggressive in her cleaning.]

I spent six months in another universe. And while I was there . . .

[A beat, and she glances up, her red eyes intent.]

What books did you have in your tower about vampires, Elizabeth?
isochrone: (living hues and odours plain and hill)

[personal profile] isochrone 2019-03-25 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ Elizabeth freezes in that red-eyed gaze, like an instinctive response that she cannot control. ]

That... that they were pure fiction. Of course.
originallutece: awful tough lately (talk; you've been acting)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-03-25 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
[A beat, and she raises an eyebrow.]

As impossible as, say, opening a doorway into another world?
isochrone: (cathedral moment may last for centuries)

[personal profile] isochrone 2019-04-05 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That's science.

[ and that reminds her of something ]

The whole Tower... it was just for watching me. Why?
originallutece: you have to DO things (talk; you can't just wish)

[personal profile] originallutece 2019-04-06 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a thousand and one answers she could give for that. The truth? Some half-truth? A lie? All of them have their drawbacks and their benefits, and all of them will change the timeline in some way.

But does it matter? When and if Robert finds her, should things be so ruined that they need to start over, well. Then they'll need to start over.]

There are only two other people in the multiverse who can do what you can do, Elizabeth, and no one was in a position to capture the other two. They had you. They had you from infancy. And what isn't understood is to be studied.

[She glances over at her.]

Further: the man who ordered you there was very, very intent on keeping track of you. He wanted to be certain you were learning what he wished you learn, reading what he wanted you to read. Doing nothing but waiting, ready to play your role when he wanted you.

DeWitt rather ruined that plan.
