Event Log: Predator vs. Prey

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Predator vs Prey event
Where: All over the city
When: March 13th-March 21st
Warnings: None

It all starts with an explosion, because Rage is excellent at managing her anger. But an explosion isn't enough - she hasn't worked out all her feeling yet. Not until the city itself has gotten caught up in her anger at Fear for being unable to save Delight. And yeah, that means you.

So now you're a predator (Rage) or prey (Fear). You want to hunt, or you're being hunted. Maybe you were defenseless before, or maybe you're the sort who no one could be afraid of... but it's different now, because the gods are passing on their blessings to you. All the better to catch and kill, or run and hide.

What will you do? Try to resist the urge? Good luck with that. Who would want to resist, anyway, when it feels so right to give in? Hunt someone down like a cat after a mouse, or flee like a deer before wolves. Maybe you can find someone to help you, whether that means hunting in packs or looking for safety in numbers. Who knows, maybe you'll even make a few new friends while trying to kill your old ones.

► This log covers March 13th-March 21st.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get caught by a predator or have things turned on you by your prey, please let us know here.

[ Scott is already suspicious.

Nate can see it in the way he holds himself, hesitant and wary, and rightly so. Seeing as he fully intends to open this guy up and bleed him out given half the chance, it stands to reason there's lingering concern. Flashing a warm smile Nate half-jogs, half-walks into proximity.

The grin does not belie the rush of blood, of adrenaline under his skin. His fingers twitch at his sides.

Thought I was the only one out here, city's been pretty empty.

[It takes what feels like a metric ton of of restraint not to flinch or step back when Nate moves what Scott considers to be too quick over to him, but the warm smile combats these paranoid (he's paranoid, right?) feelings overtaking him. Just a little. They keep him from quickly extricating himself with some awkward and flimsy excuse, at least.]

Yeah, I noticed while I was patrolling. [Maybe it's slightly awkward and flimsy with the way that he tries to casually keeps strolling, like when you run into someone you don't want to speak to but they insist on chatting...you just keep walking in that silent "yeah i'm busy bye" stride.

He keeps his gaze on Nate, his eyes flitting around for...somewhere? A corner to turn, perhaps. A low enough building to boost himself on to and hide.]
...Which I should probably get back to. Uh, everything cool?

[He felt the need to ask. "See, I'm not scared" he wants to convey, for reasons he's still not entirely aware of. "It's not fear you're smelling on me, no sirree."]
nonscriptum: but you are a huge waste of muscles (uh no offense)

[ Turns out Scott is really uncomfortable. Curiously, Nate almost wishes he knew what kind of sensation that was. Pressing, needy? Anything like the one he has right now, pushing him to consider the expediency of a single bullet, maybe two?

He's intending to walk - or intends to continue doing so - and Nate's friendly smile borders on manic.
]

Oh, for sure.

[ Which is all the warning he gives before he pulls his Beretta, aiming at a kneecap and squeezing the trigger. ]

[Well, that's bad.

For as needlessly paranoid as Scott considered he may be being, that all goes out the window when Nate reaches for his gun. Luckily he's no stranger to people abruptly pulling a weapon on him. Even without SAM he could see that move ahead, at least. He doesn't have enough time to reach behind him and pull out one of his own maglocked guns — and part of him still doesn't want to fire at Nate, despite Nate firing at him, it just doesn't seem right. But his biotics are as natural as breathing. It's more instinctive for him to hurriedly lift his arm in defense, palm outward. His body glows and a transparent, blue energy forms in front of his person to protect him from that bullet.

He begins to step back, trying to circle around Nate without actually turning away, knowing that he couldn't hold this for too long. His gaze darts around for some kind of cover as he keeps his shield up. His attention isn't completely off of his attacker, though.]

That's the opposite of cool! [Maybe he should just flee. While Scott has been in many fights and skirmishes with humans, aliens, androids, the idea of facing off against Nate right now is terrifying. He feels like he won't come out of it alive. He resolves himself to try and talk Nate down, to be threatening, but somehow being fully armored, armed, and biotically strong isn't enough for him to suppress the tremor in his words.] I wouldn't try something like that again.
nonscriptum: I thought you were kidding! (holy SHIT)

[ There's that blueish shield thing again, whatever strange power Scott has as his disposal which apparently struggled to lift a door but has no issue absorbing the force of his shot. Seeing it happen in real time is strange, a curious talent that has Nate tilting his head just slightly to one side, watching.

He isn't stupid, there's no point in wasting ammo, but Scott's attempt at circling doesn't treat him well as Nate keeps pace, preventing him from getting out of the line of sight.

Suddenly, the shock and surprise evident on his face as something catches his eye past Scott, Nate blanches.
]

Oh, shit-

[Perhaps because of his intense fear, plain naivety, Nate's convincing nature, or a mixture of all three working together to just ruin his fucking day, Scott immediately feels his chest seize up in fright, causing him to let down his biotic shield and spin around to the second intruder so close (obviously) that they had his attacker even give pause. This time he's ready to throw the next asshole who tries to get the jump on him across town.

Except, there's no one there.

In an ironic echo:]
Oh shit—
nonscriptum: they'll come for me (they won't come for money)

No shit.

[ It's exactly the kind of dumbfuck opportunity Nate was waiting for. Scott turns in a panic and Nate uses the split-second immediately, springing forward with a lunge.

Arms around Scott's middle Nate tackles him head-on, over six feet of dense muscle and a shoulder that jams into his prey's solar plexus as they hit the ground.

[He's going to hate himself when this is all over.

Hell, he's hating himself right now, getting the wind knocked straight out of him as he hits the floor. Being tackled right on the tail end of using up some of his biotic energy when he is in no way up to his usual strength here in Hadriel is probably a very dangerous thing for him. His recovery time is spent having a shoulder jamming into him from a body taller than his own, therefore all he can do is struggle against the pressure. He makes a couple of premature attempts to try and push Nate off him, glowing a weak blue and at worst Nate would probably feel a small pressure trying to get him off of Scott that amounts to the strength of a kid trying to shove a grown ass adult.

When that is obviously not going to work he makes an attempt reach for one of the guns on his back — the Carnifex pistol would be enough. However he still doesn't want to kill anyone. That annoying, idealistic, part of him thinks that somehow he can resolve this peacefully. Or run. Instead, as soon as his hand is able to pull it from the magnetic station on his back he bends his arm to the gun is pointing behind him (awkward and uncomfortably) fires off a round once he thinks it's close enough to his attacker's head, hoping that the loud heavy hitter of the weapon would be enough to ring the other's ears painfully. That, or be a good enough warning that he's about to get shot in head if it's the last thing Scott does. Though Scott manages to be fairly unintimidating even wielding a gun.]
