Event Log: Predator vs. Prey

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Predator vs Prey event
Where: All over the city
When: March 13th-March 21st
Warnings: None

It all starts with an explosion, because Rage is excellent at managing her anger. But an explosion isn't enough - she hasn't worked out all her feeling yet. Not until the city itself has gotten caught up in her anger at Fear for being unable to save Delight. And yeah, that means you.

So now you're a predator (Rage) or prey (Fear). You want to hunt, or you're being hunted. Maybe you were defenseless before, or maybe you're the sort who no one could be afraid of... but it's different now, because the gods are passing on their blessings to you. All the better to catch and kill, or run and hide.

What will you do? Try to resist the urge? Good luck with that. Who would want to resist, anyway, when it feels so right to give in? Hunt someone down like a cat after a mouse, or flee like a deer before wolves. Maybe you can find someone to help you, whether that means hunting in packs or looking for safety in numbers. Who knows, maybe you'll even make a few new friends while trying to kill your old ones.

► This log covers March 13th-March 21st.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get caught by a predator or have things turned on you by your prey, please let us know here.

[Wind whistles through fractures in the stone structure. The resulting high-pitched resonance does little to aid him in his effort to remain focused on his mission. About fifteen seconds pass while he searches, a feeling of terrified desperation growing within him as he checks each display for anything that remotely resembles the items required by the clinic.

He fails to find anything of the sort.

He shouldn't have hoped to find them in the very first room he entered...

He rises to his full height, hurriedly giving each set of shelves a second glance as he decides to move deeper into the building. His hand soundlessly rests on a doorknob before turning it. He begins to open the door, slowly inching it forward, fearing an attacker might be waiting to ambush him on the other side. For an instant, he pauses in his movements; he doesn't wish to proceed further. He bows his head when the thought runs through his mind, but he is quick to lift it again. He must press forward.

He is too preoccupied with the possibility of what he might soon face to consider the threat that might be lurking behind him.]

[ Turns out the search doesn't go as expected. It's not all that surprising that there's nothing here: most of the shops are desolate places and have been since they moved to the tundra, too little to sustain them. Too little to spare.

The synthetic begins pushing the door and Nate, maybe half a dozen feet away and leaning on the checkout counter, inhales through his teeth with an apologetic hiss.
]

Sorry. Not gonna find anything in there, either. Whole place is picked clean.

[Oscar whirls around in alarm, coming face to face with a man who seems familiar to him. As he stares at him in the somber gloom during the next few seconds, Oscar begins to recall where, precisely, he recognizes him from: this man is one of the members of the traveling party that came upon a horrifying set of discoveries and returned to inform the population of what they entailed. Their public report over the network detailed new findings on the Null's history with this planet...

The findings were consistent with everything they knew about the Null and their misguided existence.

Everything about the man's body language immediately informs Oscar that he has not been happened upon by a frightened civilian. He doesn't sense obvious, non-verbal cues indicating intense feelings of animosity. What he does notice is an unkempt, grimy appearance.

Oscar hesitates. Nothing else is being said.]

... Do you know where I might find supplies for the clinic? I am normally able to recover at least three items on a daily basis...

[His synthetic voice is quiet. It has a slight waver to it, one that hasn't been heard from him in a while.]
