Event Log: Null Attack

What: The event log for the Null Attack event
Where: All over the city

What starts as a normal day will begin to herald in the beginning of the end. On May 29th, you might see something in the sky out of the corner of your eye- blink and you miss it, but there's definitely something there, something that's not any kind of animal you've ever seen. Now that you know to look, you may be paying closer attention to the sky in order to catch the next one that flies past- a ship. A ship that that seems to be designed in a way that might remind you of the Null themselves.

As the days pass, it becomes unmistakable- the Null are here and are scouting out the area. It's time to prepare for an immediate attack and start putting all those contingency plans to good use. Will you gear up for a fight and fall into formation? Will you close and lock your doors and stay inside? Or perhaps there's some other plan that you want to enact?

You'll have time to discuss that on the network later, but now you need to start reacting to the Null's actions- which are apparently to start building smaller encampments around the city as they try to find the way inside. Confusion is holding them at bay for now but it might be time to start building some defensive measures and fortifications, because she won't be able to keep them at bay forever.

When they break in, they do so in a big way- with a massive explosion at Confusion's temple that rattles throughout the entire city. It's obvious that something has happened- and what exactly that something is reveals itself shortly when Null begin to flood the city, having broken through Confusion's protection.

This is when the fight escalates to an all-out war. Nobody is spared, and they're watching everyone from above. What will you do? How will you keep the ones you love safe? How can anyone survive this? All you can do is fight back, all we can do is wait. Good luck, Hadriel.

[64th]

[ Cashmere doesn't have an armor suit, but she did pull out a black jumpsuit, thinking it might help her hide in the shadows. it does work, mostly, and she spends her time hiding near pre-set traps in hopes that she can destroy a few Null once they're caught. it works more often than not, but when she miscalculates Cashmere takes off full speed in the opposite direction, doing her best to lead them into another trap.

this time she's relieved to spot web up ahead. hopefully it means that Peter kid is still nearby, because she could use a hand. ]

Incoming!!

[ that should be enough warning to let people know she has three Null trailing behind her, right? ]

[It's plenty of warning. Peter's currently hanging out up in the trees looking for good ambush opportunities, and here comes one right now.

The Null straggling the furthest behind gets picked off first. Peter webs it from his perch, sticks it to a tree to immobilize it, and then swings down to kick in it's midsection to crush it's core. He webs the second one's legs together, pouncing on it after it loses it's balance and smooshing it's core in a similar way. He doesn't get to the third one chasing Cashmere just yet, but he does call out to her.]

Watch your step up there!

[Fresh webs and all that. Great for catching robots, also great for accidentally catching humans.]

Got it! [ the last thing she's interested in right now is slamming into a web full-speed. at the very least, it would be deeply embarassing.

she weaves her way between the growing network of web, suddenly very glad that most of the Null tower over her. once there are a few webs between her and the third Null, she stops. ]

Come and get me! [ a big part of her hopes it will wander straight into the web and that'll be the end of that, but instead it just slows down, delayed by the wall of webbing it wants to avoid. it's the perfect set up for Peter to work his magic. ]

[Peter's magic consists of webbing himself over to the Null and attaching himself to it's back, where he promptly punches a fist through it's core. The Null falls to the ground in a heap and Peter hops off of it, sticking to the nearest tree. Time for like a two minute break.]

Nice job. You doin' okay down there?

[ she gives him a double thumbs up. ]

Alive and uninjured. Thanks for the help. It's a nice setup you have going on here. [ it would be nice to have some sort of power or ability other than just running like hell. but at least she's not out in the jungle alone. ]

How are you holding up?

Still in one piece, and the traps are working out better than I expected, so I guess that means I'm holding up pretty good. Between you and me, I was expecting the Null to be way better at just... I dunno, paying attention to their general surroundings?

[The webs aren't super obvious, but they're also easy enough to spot if someone knows what to look out for. The Null mostly just keep trundling into them. Makes wrecking their shit a lot easier, at least. Peter's kind of going through a lot of webbing with all the traps he's resetting and the robots he's sticking to trees, but so far it all seems to be working out pretty well.]

[ she nods. ] Yeah. It's strange. Unsettling might be the right word? I'm suspicious when something tries to kill me and the execution is flawed.

[ it feels like they're waiting for the other shoe to drop. it can't be this easy. ]

They don't seem interested in giving up, though. Even if they're terrible at this.

They've gotta have some kind of strategy behind this. Like, tossing canon fodder at us to wear us out and use up our resources, then hitting us with something big? It would make sense, they've definitely got the numbers for it.

[He doesn't want to be right about that, but the way this thing is going, it wouldn't surprise him.]

Pretending to be incompetent until we wear ourselves out? [ her brow furrows. great, that's gonna be one more thing to stress about. ] Well, I think I'll just keep telling myself they're stupid.

Have you been getting any rest? Eating anything? [ sure he's kicking Null ass, but he's still got to take care of himself. ]

Well, playing dumb can be a good strategy, I guess.

Eating yes, resting... well, not as much as I should be getting. Kinda hard to take a break with these things around.
