The battle has been going on for awhile now, but this is when things really begin to kick into overdrive. The Null's primary target is the Door, but their secondary targets are all the god temples - particularly Hope's. It's time to fight, because if you don't, everything is going to end here and now.
Whether you're defending the Door, defending a temple, or finding some other way to fight or offer support to the fighters, you'd better be ready to go all out. The Null certainly are. Their forces seem almost infinite, especially with the way they can drag the remains of Null bodies from the field and repair and reanimate them. But then, that's true for you, too, as Hope flickers around each battlefield throughout the city resurrecting people nearly the moment they fall.
All the gods are fighting at your side. Some will fall, sending currents of emotion through the warriors on both sides, while others will fight on. It may seem like this battle will last forever, but there is an end - when the Null all begin to crumple, the life going out of them, signaling that the killswitch has been activated.
Then it's just you, and the living injured, and the city in ruins. But you've won, no matter what the cost!► This log covers June 15th
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► All deaths will be resurrected near-instantly, though after awhile things may begin going wrong...
Rey | Door Defense.
Hour 7-10.
What she cared about were for the ones on this side of the Door. The ones who didn't want to lay down and die. Who wanted to fight for the right to live. Isn't that what it's always been about, ever since they got here? Survival.
It's been years since Rey first awoke on the floor of the Colosseum. A giant bat thought it could swoop in and take her away for its evening meal, the cheeky little shit. She made sure that didn't happen. It feels like lifetimes ago now, like those things happened to a different person, because she is different now. The thing that hasn't changed is that, like then, like always, she's still fighting...
Just as it's always been, even before here. It's not bats this time. It's machines. Fortunately, Rey's always been familiar with dispatching synthetics. The manic episodes of glee and amusement is intoxicating as she rips them apart in her scorching hands. Her fingers bleeding as she summons raw strength to tearing metal. The Null don't bleed, of course. Rey does; it's a hot, steaming red that seeps from her flesh as she rips cores straight from the Null's chassis after beating them down long and hard enough. The burst of energy from the Door is all that's been keeping her standing after hours of this same song and dance.
"Been killing you motherfuckers for a long time. Is this some sort of joke?" Rey barks a joyless laugh as she clutches the current Null core in her hand, before tossing it down the steps. It's quiet sometimes. She should be able to rest, but doesn't allow herself for it.
She should be spent, but she's still got a lot more madness to burn off if she doesn't want to turn that on the people she's stuck with.

she finds Rey beautiful under ordinary circumstances, but now? she's like a miracle to behold.
Laura died in the initial onslaught, too few arrows and too much confidence. she hasn't made that mistake twice. her quiver is so full of arrows, it's hard to tell where the quiver begins and the arrows end. and she's firing them at the Null with a brutal efficiency. she knows where they're weak now, where to hurt them. and hurt them she does.
she grins at Rey and answers]
If it is a joke, it's a bad one.

No shit. [She scoffs, heaving deep breaths as she wipes a streak of blood from her cut lip. Too bad rapid healing isn't one of the traits she "inherited" from her father. Sure as hell would have come into good use right about now. As it is, she has only her strength and constitution to survive.
[That, and maybe a hand or two.
[Despite holding her own so far, she staggers, finding a pillar to prop herself against during one of the brief calm between attacks. She looks at Laura, and blinks.] Why did you come here, anyway? There're safer places to be.
[Not that she expects Laura to hole herself up somewhere and do nothing. But coming this close to the Door, which the Null are so aggressively assaulting, doesn't seem like the right place to be for someone like her, either.]

Laura doesn't even have that. she's just your ordinary, garden variety human. she's probably in over her head, but this time she feels an obligation to protect the people of Hadriel.
when the Null first attacked, she didn't feel that. she hid in Delight's temple because she didn't know how to fight. and because she was a coward. but it was mostly the former.
she shrugs, then fires off another arrow into a Null] Right now, it's not really safe anywhere.
[and it's not. no matter where she goes, it's swarming with Null. might as well go where the fighting is thickest, do her best, and rely on others to do the same]

No. [Rey huffs, kicking a downed Null before her hand lights up in flames.] Guess it's not.
[The searing heat tears straight into the machine's chassis and into its core, crushing the inside and cutting off what "life" it could be considered having.
[She stands up, throwing the core out of her blackened hand.] These things are mostly just pissing me off, now.

she quickly fires an arrow at an oncoming Null which was looking to flank Rey. fortunately, the arrow penetrates straight to the core, so it drops down to the ground, now a hulk of metal.
and she can't help but admire Rey as she fries the Null she'd been fighting against. that was awesome]
Same here. You'd think these assholes would take a hint that they're not wanted.
