Endgame Log: The Ice Planet

Who: The characters accompanying [Name] to the ice planet
What: The closed event log for the virus upload
Where: On the ice planet, at the Null communications array
When: June 15th
Warnings: None

It's time. There's a plan that needs to be put into motion, and you're the ones who volunteered to do it. You know going in that it's going to be dangerous - but there's no other choice. This is the end, and it's you or the Null.

Upon arrival, you have a little time to prepare. The Null don't know you're there at first, and once they do there's a delay of a few hours before they're in position to fight back. Now's the time to set up defenses or anything else that might help you stay alive. You have to know the fight will be hard, because they know their lives are on the line, too.

Then, the Null attack. With everything they have, they try to stop you, try to beat past your defenses to get to [Name] and stop it from uploading the killswitch. Fear helps out, and the sky goes dark, but it won't last forever. When Fear flees, that particular defense is gone... along with any chance of getting out of there. Here's where those without courage might break, because it certainly looks like it could be a last stand. It doesn't help that Hope can't reach you here either, that any deaths will not be resurrected during the battle.

But it does end. With very little warning, [Name] completes its task. It goes dark, and as it does, the other Null see their end coming. They cannot stop it, they cannot escape. They crumple to the ground, all consciousness and animation gone from them.

And then you're alone on the ice planet. Tend your wounds, mourn your dead, and hope that someone will come for you before the cold does.

► This log covers June 15th
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► As this log takes place away from Hope's influence, any deaths will not be resurrected until people and gods are able to travel to the ice planet again. Have fun!

[Mettaton doesn't really relax despite Alphys's cheer. Whenever he's fighting, it's like he's in a different world where he has to be the best; no room for losses. More to the point, it's hard to break out of the habit of going absolutely apeshit on any and all enemies that threaten who he cares about.

He's only just started to even out and looks lost in his own thoughts when Alphys glances at him and speaks. Suddenly, the sour look slips into something more nonplussed.]

Ah...yes. You're doing a great job holding down the fort here, though!

[Saved it, right? He's cool, he's fine, totally focusing on what's important and not curbing his violent enthusiasm! Trust him!!]

[I mean, good news Mettaton, she's a little caught up in it all to think he's having a grand ol bloodbath. So that's... good?? Probably???]

Y-You think?

[She's never fought before, or at least not on purpose. Alphys has defended herself, but drawing some kind of legendary weapon, charging into battle... it's powerful. Exhilarating. Words she would never use to describe any aspect of her life.]

It kind of feels like a video game, right?? Except I can feel my arms and there's, uh, a lot of running.

[Probably not the best thing to say to someone with the associations Mettaton has with blood sport, but... sure.]

Like a video game? Haha, I suppose.

[Indeed, he doesn't really think it feels like a video game. But it does feel familiar, in a way he's never going to accept of himself. But uh. That really wasn't important. What was important was keeping sharp, and in turn doing his level best to support Alphys and keep her focused.]

Either way, we can't afford to dally. How long do you think it'll take for your little friend to finish what they're doing?

[And while he's talking, he's keeping an eye on the area. Because the Null were still swarming about like vermin.]

[She's just trying to lighten the mood. As much as she knows that Mettaton has been through a lot and it's not great that he has to do it again, at least she can be here this time to reassure him it won't be the same. Better yet, these things don't have SOULs, so this shouldn't count towards... well, anything bad, exactly. It's fine.]

Uhm, right, uh-- p-probably a while. I know we all just sort of ran off, but we're probably going to have to uhm, take shifts who's in the back and front line. Null code rewrites itself super quick, so trying to get the entire thing through is gonna be really tough.

[Really, Alphys wishes she knew how to write it, that she could be helping. As it stands she barely knows how their software works, much more in tune with the hardware of it all.]

I might be able to, uhm, scramble their s-systems temporarily, but I don't know if that would work here.
