Intro Log: Eight Legs No Heart

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for June.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: June 10th-15th
Warnings: Spiders. Soooo many spiders. New people. Probably swearing.

For once, the new arrivals to Hadriel will not be waking up on the cold hard ground of the colosseum. Oh, sure, you'll still awaken in the arena - but this time the Door has been kind enough to ensure that you wake up comfortably arranged in a very nice chair. Or maybe not so comfortably. Some of those look pretty awkward - hopefully you didn't wake up with a crick in your neck! And hey, feel free to try to drag some of these super cool chairs to your new homes. They're probably not cursed or anything.

As you make your way out of the arena, be careful getting to close to the walls - well, except that's the only way out, so good luck! Chilling up on there waiting to get the drop on you are Skulltulas. These funky-looking spiders have squishy underbellies, but their upper exoskeletons are hard and very difficult to break through. They really just want to nibble you a few times, and maybe suck out all of your blood. No big deal, right? Have fun!

Have you conquered your arachnophobia and managed to escape? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers June 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

All of life is a dream. Most are just fortunate enough not to wake from it and see what is truly in front of their faces.

[Ushahin knows. He sees the patterns that no else does, the threads that make up the world around him. Most think him mad for it. Perhaps he is. No man is meant to see the ways that truly control life as people know it. He holds out a hand, the crooked right one, and motions for her to continue to sit.]

Stay. I will not harm you. Not yet. [The words come out less ominous then they would coming from another's lips. He merely says them, the way he might point out the color of Alayne's eyes or how the trees look. Ushahin's moods are ever-changing, and even if he doesn't mean any harm right at that moment, it can change in the blink of an eye.]

Life is not a dream.

[ quietly. a dream is something lovely, something that passes, something one could wake up from and assure themselves it was not real. Life, for alayne stone, for sansa who had come before her was the nightmare that existed when all other dreams have gone. there is no waking up from that, there is not even a hope that it is less than real. ]

And this is not a dream, either. It is a city buried beneath stone, filled with demons and beasts.

[ and they are real and death will be real too if they come too close.

not yet, he says and alayne thinks back to the hound, sing me a song, he had asked and his face were terrible, his voice horase. ]

There will be none to stir anyone awake and away from this city.

Of course life is a dream. It is the kind of dream that visits the mind at the worst of times. An absurd and grotesque dream, the kind where you wish to wake up from and never do. That is the gods' great joke.

[The broken one had always had a loose grip on reality. His powers muddled the thoughts in people's heads and what was before his own eyes until he wasn't sure where one began and the other stopped.]

I called Ushahin by some, Dreamspinner by others. What do they call you? [His eyes flicker, the left fixed with a pupil that neither expands or contracts. He focuses, not on Alayne, but on a spot just above her head. His powers expand outward and a small tendril curls towards her mind, waiting to catch the stray trains of thought that run through.]

Alayne.

[ alayne in name and mind and heart, as her lord father has instructed. she is quiet and unassuming, as all baseborn girls ought to be if they know their place in the world. she is quiet for a moment, tidies down the cotton of her gown. the city is foreign, the people more so. they will be as dangerous as the beasts lingering in the shadows, one slip and I am dead, this notion seems to be true no matter where she goes. ]

Alayne Stone, I have no titles.

[She is indeed what she says in truth, for he can detect no lie or falsehood coming from her mind. What he does see is-- one slip and I am dead. --just a fragment of thought, something that slips past all the rest. He doesn't attempt to understand it, instead letting it settle somewhere in the broken mirror shards that make up his mind.]

There is much fear in you for one so young. Is it this place that frightens you so?

I have never traveled so far from my home, Sir and.

[ she looks above, to where she'd expect to see sun and clouds and the pale blue of morning sky. instead there is naught there but rock. it makes her nervous in how unnatural it is. ]

Seeing rock instead of sky - it is as if we are in a crypt.

[ she seems to catch herself a moment afterwards ]

Forgive me, that was a terrible thing to say.

[Ushahin looks up, a faint sense of surprise in the back of his mind. He'd barely acknowledged the fact he was underground when he first had awoken. Then again, Darkhaven was a place shrouded in darkness. Seeing the sun was a rare occurrence.]

I lived among a people who made their homes in mountains and caves. They enjoyed being underground and were most uneasy in the open air. This place can be a crypt-- [And he leans forward, broken right hand interlacing with the strong fingers of his good left hand.] --Or it can be a castle. It is all about perspective.

Mayhaps, yes.

[ alayne knows not of anyone living in caves. there were tales, tales old nan told the Stark children of the children of the forest who lived inside trees and in dark caves but those were children's tales and in truth, the only ones she knew who lived beneath the ground are the dead, the great men of old in their cold graves. ]

Do you think it a palace?

[personal profile] ushahin 2016-06-19 02:17 am (UTC)(link)

No. This place lacks the grandeur of a palace.

[Even his own home, dark and grim though the outside was, clearly was the dwelling place of a god. His madlings had seen to it that the insides were kept clean and beautiful-looking.]

It seems more like a city, though I must say that I have never heard of Men building a city underground.

Not all palaces are grand, some are ugly, I've heard. If this is a palace -

[ then it is ugly. uglier than any palace alayne stone or sansa stark had ever stepped foot at. but beauty is one thing and kindness another, and one might find cruelty even in the most beautiful corner of the world.

king's landing, the red keep but she must not think of it. alayne has never visited there, she had never left the eyrie. ]

I do not know if those who built it are men. I have yet to meet any man who told me he was born here.

Someone had to have made it. The stones themselves did not get up and shape themselves into dwellings.

[Though he has seen such an act done before, it required powerful tools and a supreme force of will. He has seen little here that would make him think that there was any sort of the same level of power in this strange and new place.]
