For once, the new arrivals to Hadriel will not be waking up on the cold hard ground of the colosseum. Oh, sure, you'll still awaken in the arena - but this time the Door has been kind enough to ensure that you wake up comfortably arranged in a very nice chair. Or maybe not so comfortably. Some of those look pretty awkward - hopefully you didn't wake up with a crick in your neck! And hey, feel free to try to drag some of these super cool chairs to your new homes. They're probably not cursed or anything.
As you make your way out of the arena, be careful getting to close to the walls - well, except that's the only way out, so good luck! Chilling up on there waiting to get the drop on you are Skulltulas. These funky-looking spiders have squishy underbellies, but their upper exoskeletons are hard and very difficult to break through. They really just want to nibble you a few times, and maybe suck out all of your blood. No big deal, right? Have fun!
Have you conquered your arachnophobia and managed to escape? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers June 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Not so much with this guy. Yes, another guy whose look very much says, 'the only cool I understand is that which opposes warm'. Yes, another guy who looks an office type, if less office and more laboratory, if, all right, so the sweater vest and ill-sized blazer and trousers speak more to professor, more to chalk-dusted. Not, however, another guy doing well.
No, and he cannot even spare the attention to be equally curious about the other techniques, or even all that paper, as he's too occupied with crab walking backwards, advanced upon by a spider. It's a three-legged crab walk, as he's got his cane in his right hand.
See Spider Jump. See Hermann Swing (Cane). Bite, Spider, Bite!
He hadn't the chance to get the knife out of his pocket, so it's really just him attempting to cricket bat it. First swing's lucky, as he gets it right in its open mouth. Thing is, the cane probably can't handle much of that, and look, it's biting down. No crunch, but
yes
he seems to be engaged in a tug of (cane) with a spider. ]
No! No, oh, bloody, come on! H-help? Help!

The second "help" isn't three seconds out of Hermann's mouth before a wave of those wacky papers slip neatly between man and spider, slamming the giant creature backward and away from its prey. Its mouth opens to loose a noise that must be surprise (whatever sound it is that surprised spiders make), or possibly rage, dropping the cane as its many legs scramble for purchase on the arena floor. It's as if the papers are weighing it down, and the effect only seems to intensify when another ring of them forms around the spider, parallel to the floor. No crater yet, but that's probably better save for when Hermann's a little further away anyway.
The man in charge of the apparently heavy-ass paper approaches calmly, one hand raised in front of him with his first two fingers extended.]
Are you alright?

thnx broHermann's seen a lot between here and there and then. Here, which is Hadriel or a reconstructed Haven; there, which is Haven before; and then, which is his world, and that had plenty of its own extremes. Hundreds of tons of genetically engineered alien beast. Mecha to match.
Still, paper surprises him, so maybe it's his noise and the spider's mimicking it. Probably not. He yanks instinctively at his cane once it's loose, backing up on a similar reflex, staring as more paper joins. Where does one even keep all that paper?
His head jerks in direction of the movement, and the calm helps him scrounge for composure. Not that there's much hope for dignity as he is. ]
I believe so. [ He fishes a cloth from his pocket, feeling along the cane, over the slime, the marks from its... mouth parts, whatever they're called. Whatever had it. ] Yes, looks like. Thank you.
[ He'll wait for how once it's dead. For now, he uses his cane to get himself standing. ]

Link gives Hermann a quick once-over, nodding at the thanks before turning his attention completely to the spider.]
Brace yourself. [Hope Hermann's steady, because that's all the warning he's getting before that invisible weight keeping the spider in place suddenly intensifies, energy crackling in the air as some unseen force crushes the monster into the ground, digging a gooey, spider-filled divot into the dirt in the process.
... Yep, it's pretty dead.]

He's as steady as he'll get under the circumstances, and Hermann watches, then gapes, staring as the spider's crushed by something. Something caused by the paper, of course. It would be nice if there was a scientific rather than a 'magical' explanation. His hopes are not very high.
Pulling a face at all that goo, Hermann turns away after a moment, looking properly at his rescuer and wondering again at paper storage. ]
Thorough and comparatively neat. [ No dirtied weapons or shoes, anyway. ] Marvelous. Well, thank you again.

Unfortunately for Hermann, magic is a pretty big part of the explanation. I mean, there's a lot of energy shenanigans happening there ("Ki" and such that the mun currently explains away with the vague exaggerations that most fighting anime/manga provide), but... yeah. It's definitely ridiculous, no disagreements there.
Speaking of paper storage, some of that paper that Link just used? Is zipping its way back up his sleeves. Many of them simply flutter to the ground, damaged from either contact with the spider or the expenditure of energy, but it seems that those that remain undamaged can be used again.]
You're welcome. Do you need an escort?
[Meaning an escort out of the arena. Seems like most people stuck inside are pretty lost as to what's going on, but outside and away from the spiders has got to be better than sticking around.]

Magic or science or anime, as if all are mutually exclusive (do not think too closely about anime science/scientific anime
[Steins;Gate?]), Hermann watches with interest as the paper moves. Either to the ground, behaving as one might expect in the fall, or up a sleeve, behaving as one would not. Told, probably. He both does and does not want to think about it, and the choice alone should hardly be a priority, so the question's a useful one. Hermann blinks, then looks around, to be sure no one else seems in immediate danger. ]
Might be a good idea.
[ No one else yelling Help!, anyway. ]
If you don't mind, but I suppose that's why you asked. Thank you.
