For once, the new arrivals to Hadriel will not be waking up on the cold hard ground of the colosseum. Oh, sure, you'll still awaken in the arena - but this time the Door has been kind enough to ensure that you wake up comfortably arranged in a very nice chair. Or maybe not so comfortably. Some of those look pretty awkward - hopefully you didn't wake up with a crick in your neck! And hey, feel free to try to drag some of these super cool chairs to your new homes. They're probably not cursed or anything.
As you make your way out of the arena, be careful getting to close to the walls - well, except that's the only way out, so good luck! Chilling up on there waiting to get the drop on you are Skulltulas. These funky-looking spiders have squishy underbellies, but their upper exoskeletons are hard and very difficult to break through. They really just want to nibble you a few times, and maybe suck out all of your blood. No big deal, right? Have fun!
Have you conquered your arachnophobia and managed to escape? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers June 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

FROM BEHIND HERMANN
IS SOMEONE.
Said someone has seemingly slipped up behind him while he was wracked with indecision and has looked at the selection as well, pondering it for a moment, before speaking up.]
It really is a lot to take in, yeah? If there's no people here, how'd all this food get here? I guess we shouldn't question it and just be thankful that there's something to eat!

SUDDENLY
FROM BEHIND HERMANN
A VOICE.
Much closer than he'd have expected of someone coming around from behind. Of course, he jumps. He spins while he does, turning toward the someone, his hand coming up to cover his heart (as if it hasn't gone on a brief retreat to his throat). He stares, processing as he wrestles down a sharp reprimand.
He does get it down, but his tone's still cross when he answers. ]
I imagine we owe it to the so-called gods. We must always question, sir.
great now i'll have that song in my head all night!
[The genuine smile on his face makes it hard to tell whether that statement is sarcastic or not, but after a moment, Elmer shrugs and steps forward to get a good look at the boxes.]
I suppose I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, eh? A bloke's gotta eat. I didn't have much on me when I arrived.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It isn't always a bad idea, but yes, you likely haven't got a choice. It would be odd if you carried around a grocery.
[ Hermann scans, his eyes stopping on packaging on the bottom shelf. He blinks, wondering at such an eclectic collection, then stoops to pick one up. It would very likely make him sick, these days. ]
They certainly are making an effort. [ Musing. ]
no subject
Maybe not a grocery, no, but I usually have more. I lightened my load since I was about to get on a cruise ship, and there's plenty of food on those! All those buffets. It's unfortunate that I'm missing out on that now.
no subject
Plenty of food on a cruise ship. Something like buffets, maybe. Even if they did win, even if it lasts, will the world ever be ready to trust a cruise ship, again?
He's gone a little quiet, his face funny, reflective. Then he shakes his head, trying to dislodge it.
Not that it matters much here. Not that it's highly probable he'll get back to see, to wonder. Hermann, unlike this guy (not that he knows, but he could infer from the attitude), has been through this. Though he's half-convinced it's the same place, still, point is -- he knows he's not going anywhere.
Travels well is still important. Rather, less perishable. ]
I fear that's likely to be the least of your regrets, sir.
no subject
What I would regret is missing out on these, however. [He holds up a box of Jaffa Cakes. He'll even crack into the box now and take one out, while offering the box over to Hermann.]
By the by, any idea where this place is? Still haven't figured that part out yet. I've never even city close to this place before, and I've been to a lot of cities.
no subject
More to his interest, apparently: Jaffa Cakes. He's tempted and he looks it, leaning, his fingers twitching, his hand just beginning to life. Hermann then shakes his head, easing back. Best not. That jar of nutella had already been pushing it. All this food, such rich variety, after starving and cans for so long -- he'll get horribly sick. He should put back the Hanuta, at that. ]
No, thank you.
[ Then, he raises his eyebrows. ]
Don't suppose you noticed your phone? You must have one. They tend to do it like that, everyone gets one.
[ They tend, as if this isn't only the second (or same) such place he's wound up in. ]
no subject
[He opens up a side pocket on his bag, and brings out his own phone, as well as the Hadriel-given one. Elmer isn't even sure what it is.]
Wait, did you mean... this?
no subject
Your original phone is immaterial, though-- well, for these purposes it it.
I did mean that. It's a 'smartphone.' You should have a message on it.
no subject
This is amazing. Really puts my phone to shame! Strange, that we get something like this. They really want us to stay, eh? Whoever "they" are. The gods, I suppose?
no subject
[ With a slight smile. ]
You make a good point. I don't think it has anything to do with wanting us to stay, but it's interesting. This may be the second such place that has trapped people, yet given them networking devices.
no subject
[Gods shmods. Elmer has no use for even the very idea of gods.]
So, if people can't get out, where have they been staying? Any idea? I'm used to roughing it, but a bed is always nice if you can get one.
no subject
[ His beliefs were a touch more complicated, more abstract, but he'd certainly agree about this lot.
Hermann then gestures to the phone. ]
He indicated we should find it, right? I've just come myself, but I suppose there's empty housing of some sort. The condition of it remains to be seen.
no subject
[Now that he's properly supplied and knows about this phone business, Elmer's ready to go off adventuring. He offers a hand for a handshake.]
Thanks for all the help! Don't think I got your name yet, though. I'm Elmer. Elmer C. Albatross.
no subject
[ With a very, very slight smile. There's nothing to be amused in, really, as the meaning of that comes down to, they're trapped. Hermann resents that he does feel grateful for the housing whatever its condition, wants to flatten and snuff the feeling, only -- those weeks in Haven without had been brutal.
Hermann pauses, glancing at the hand, then nods, reaching and shaking. ]
No, not at all, I didn't say much. Dr. Gottlieb. Well-met, Mr. Albatross. Take care.
