Intro Log: Eight Legs No Heart

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for June.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: June 10th-15th
Warnings: Spiders. Soooo many spiders. New people. Probably swearing.

For once, the new arrivals to Hadriel will not be waking up on the cold hard ground of the colosseum. Oh, sure, you'll still awaken in the arena - but this time the Door has been kind enough to ensure that you wake up comfortably arranged in a very nice chair. Or maybe not so comfortably. Some of those look pretty awkward - hopefully you didn't wake up with a crick in your neck! And hey, feel free to try to drag some of these super cool chairs to your new homes. They're probably not cursed or anything.

As you make your way out of the arena, be careful getting to close to the walls - well, except that's the only way out, so good luck! Chilling up on there waiting to get the drop on you are Skulltulas. These funky-looking spiders have squishy underbellies, but their upper exoskeletons are hard and very difficult to break through. They really just want to nibble you a few times, and maybe suck out all of your blood. No big deal, right? Have fun!

Have you conquered your arachnophobia and managed to escape? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers June 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Well, people can't, but sharks can. That's how they do their hunting! Or so books tell me. I'm no expert.

[Elmer knows all too well himself, in similar fashion. Not a very nice thing to have in common, though.]

That is unfortunate, but true. However, since we don't know if they are dead or not, better safe than sorry, yeah?

[He'll tuck those bills under some of the boxes on the shelves. At the very least, it'll make whoever finds it smile, and that was enough for him.

He zips up his backpack, all set.]

So! Any idea where I am so I know how to get out of here?
muscovy: (just watching and listening)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-06-18 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fish that can smell blood. He is pretty sure that he doesn't like the idea, but also curious. He'll have to see if he can find a book about it, if they have books here.

And he has to admit that Elmer's reasons for leaving money is logical, even though it seem like the man is only leaving some paper in the end, not money. Maybe he wrote down his name so they can find him if they are not dead or vanished for good.]

Big bro says that this is a cave and my mother said that all the smaller caves only lead back to this big one because you get lost. And there are monsters in them.
keep_smiling: (is that so?)

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-06-19 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh? A cave full of monsters? Sounds like a video game. But even dungeons in video games have ways out. Maybe you just haven't found it yet?

[He'll just have to go exploring, and see what these monsters are all about.]

You won't know until you try, after all.
muscovy: (we're good)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-06-19 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do you want to get out?

There is free food here and nice places to stay for everyone. So nobody has to hurt another person to not starve or have somewhere to live. [So food, shelter and some measure of safety are taken care of.] And nobody back home knows that you are gone because you will return to the same time and place if you ever leave. [At least that was true in the Drabwurld and from what he could tell also on the Tranquility, so why should it not be true here?]
keep_smiling: (reddish)

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-06-20 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Elmer smiles broadly at that.]

Those are very good points! I do plan on doing some exploring before I go, but I've never been one to stay in one place for too long. Well, a few years here, a decade there, but those were all places I went to voluntarily. Something about being kidnapped into a strange place is a little unsettling, no? Though looking on the bright side like that is perfect. I get to meet new people, too! Remember that when you need to smile.

[There's just one thing.] What's that about nobody back home knowing you're gone, though?
muscovy: (the clouds are parting)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-06-20 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
['A decade there'.... Elmer doesn't look old enough to sometimes stay 'a decade there' which means...]

Are you immortal or do you age very slowly, or both? [Things that are generally nice in his book, both of them, at least as long as the person is lively and doesn't seem like a permanent threat - it means that they might still be around when he is able to make friends with everyone because he got that much stronger, and it means that if they become friends at some point for whatever reason, the other person won't leave by dying so soon.]

It was like that where I woke up before, and in the place before that, too. No time passes while we are gone and nobody notices that we are gone. Which is good because people would be angry and sad if one suddenly vanished and there might not be a place to return to.
keep_smiling: (hmmmmm)

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-06-21 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Elmer is pleasantly surprised Muscovy hitting the nail on the head.]

That's correct! The first one, I mean. Seems like an educated guess, if you ask me.

[He doesn't seem sure what to make of that second bit, though, but he'll accept it.]

You're right. My friends would think I've gone and stood them up, and I really wanted to go on that cruise. Alright, so if I can't leave, and no time passes, can I at least ask who's behind all of this? You seem on the up-and-up about all of this.
muscovy: (look I'm making friends)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-06-21 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
You said that you had stayed in multiple places for a decade, and you look human but not old enough to have been in many places for more than a decade, yes?

[He's pretty proud now. It's rare that people appreciate good reasoning and say it out loud without being condescending, and that's what he is certain just happened.

And he can answer this one!]
Big bro said that it is a Door that the people who are the most powerful here and call themselves gods can't influence. But some of them are still asleep and they think that maybe the sleeping ones will be able to.
keep_smiling: (do tell more)

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-06-23 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
That is correct indeed! You should smile proudly about being so astute.

[And he does mean that. Definitely no condescension.]

Sleeping gods? Well they better wake up, since there are a lot of people waiting to go. But now, it's my turn to be astute. Or try to. You seem rather content with the idea of staying from what you said earlier. What exactly is there to do around here? How much is there to explore?

Oh, and I never got your name. Elmer C. Albatross, at your service.
muscovy: (Got it!)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-06-23 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, he is smiling. Proudly, even, not just because. SO he just smile a bit more brightly and nods.

...Are you a Dwarf, sir

also since we're apparently going with... a kind of full names here? And thinking about it, that is a nice idea. To shorten the father name like that (or he assumes that that is what's happening here and that the guy isn't called Cee as a father name). It allows him to keep his father in his name without tipping potential Sindar off about his house affiliations.]

Muscovy M. Prochainezo, at yours.

[He follows it up with a little bow, the way he observed in in Kíli and the others.]

There are a good number of people here that are very lively. [Which is a good thing to see and observe.] And you can look at this whole cave. There are a lot of buildings, and the temples, and the caves around it. [But the more interesting thing, in his eyes, are the people in it.]
keep_smiling: (1711)

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-06-25 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Good, good. A true smile. Elmer approves. He'll remember this.]

Sounds like I can keep busy for awhile then. That's good. I'm looking forward to exploring some more then. And now I've got enough supplies for the journey. Since it sounds like you've done some of exploring yourself, what's the first must-see place I should check out here?
muscovy: (just watching and listening)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-06-26 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a lot of people in the spires that can be lived in.

And the temples are interesting, but going in there is not nice because they will put feelings into your head that are not yours.
keep_smiling: (i'm nondescript and stuff)

sorry for the delay!

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-07-01 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Whoa whoa whoa hold the phone. What was that?]

Put... feelings into your head? How does that work?
muscovy: (the dog will not bark forever)

np!

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It is like having people in your head, just that there is not a single person there. Only feelings. Anger and happiness and fear and hope.
keep_smiling: (polkadot bg)

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-07-04 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds interesting, really. I may have to try it. But maybe I'll start with one of the nice ones, first.

[He's very curious as to how it will work with him. But there's something else he needs to know before he starts his exploration mission.]

So some people have been stuck here or awhile then, yeah? Where have people been staying? I'm more than used to roughing it, if necessary, though.
muscovy: (from the east)

now I'm curious too

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-04 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, he was warned. Not that that helps much, in Muscovy's experience - if people want to be mad at you for not warning them, they will just act like the warning was insufficient or ignore that it existed completely. But he did his best to not get in trouble.]

There are big houses that have a lot of flats in them and small houses that are all next to each other and have lots of rooms.

[He indicates the directions by pointing towards the spire that Rey lead him to and towards the Spiral where he is staying now. If there is more housing, he hasn't heard about it yet, and there are plenty of rooms free in both spire and spiral, so he figures that that is good enough.]
keep_smiling: (i love lamp)

i've had it have no effect b/c tbh i'm not even sure how to play him with those emotions! haha

[personal profile] keep_smiling 2016-07-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well that's good. I'd prefer a bed or a roof over my head if the option is there. Besides, those buildings look pretty cool.

[He shoulders his backpack, and offers Muscovy a parting handshake.]

I thank you for all your help. Time to go see what this place is really all about!
muscovy: (until we meet again)

makes sense

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-05 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Muscovy doesn't move forward to take the hand, but doesn't move back either - he just stays there in a bit of a distance, smiles and nods.]

Until we meet again.
