Intro Log: Eight Legs No Heart

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for June.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: June 10th-15th
Warnings: Spiders. Soooo many spiders. New people. Probably swearing.

For once, the new arrivals to Hadriel will not be waking up on the cold hard ground of the colosseum. Oh, sure, you'll still awaken in the arena - but this time the Door has been kind enough to ensure that you wake up comfortably arranged in a very nice chair. Or maybe not so comfortably. Some of those look pretty awkward - hopefully you didn't wake up with a crick in your neck! And hey, feel free to try to drag some of these super cool chairs to your new homes. They're probably not cursed or anything.

As you make your way out of the arena, be careful getting to close to the walls - well, except that's the only way out, so good luck! Chilling up on there waiting to get the drop on you are Skulltulas. These funky-looking spiders have squishy underbellies, but their upper exoskeletons are hard and very difficult to break through. They really just want to nibble you a few times, and maybe suck out all of your blood. No big deal, right? Have fun!

Have you conquered your arachnophobia and managed to escape? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

An animal got in once. [Maketh still isn't quite sure how. She sighs.] Alcohol was involved.

[askdlfhsl Newt can't help but laugh at that, high and cackling] That sounds like a bad night in Vegas to me.

[mismanagement]

[Maketh grimaces. She doesn't know what Vegas is, but she can guess.] No one died. Several wished for it after the hangover, though.

[fortunefavored]

[He snickers, grinning] I sure bet they did.

[lmao he just] Well that sounds WAY more harmless than the crap we were dealing with before.

[mismanagement]

[Despite herself, Maketh smiles a bit.] It was almost pleasant in contrast. Not much further now, see?

[She points to the Spire.]

[Newt's attention jerks towards the spire...at which point his eyes narrow a bit]

...it's always gotta be freakin' spirals. What's up with that?

[mismanagement]

I don't know. Not all of them look like that, though. [She wonders if that's important. Possibly. She'll make a note of it for her files.]

[fortunefavored]

Well... I guess there's that. [he huffs, shifting his backpack on his back] They were a theme in Haven.

[mismanagement]

[That's interesting. Maketh frowns.] Was there a reason?

[fortunefavored]

It had something to do with what was powering the whole thing. We couldn't write or record anything except for in one place where writing was actually permanent, so what we had was kinda vague. But one scientist I talked to used the Golden Ratio and some machine to see patterns and use it to find things like cures for diseases.

At least, that's what he told us.

[mismanagement]

[That...is very strange. Clearly whatever was in charge of the place that Newt came from was very concerned with security. Perhaps it was a formal of psychological torture as well? Keep the population on a tight leash, never let them have the certainty of anything, let alone knoweldge.

Clever and cruel. But effective.

Maketh exhales slowly.] An extreme control measure, perhaps? I don't think the gods understand enough about human psychology to implement anything like that against us.

Definitely an extreme control measure. Though I gotta say, all their control measures are extreme.

[He pauses at that, though, glancing at her] Does that mean you can actually, like...write stuff down here?

[mismanagement]

[Maketh nods uneasily.] We can. I've had all the Guardsmen writing reports - as detailed as we can manage.

[fortunefavored]

Seriously?! [oh. My god. Newt looks like this is the best news he's heard all day] oh my god, I have to tell--[Hermann. Newt jerks up short, and all of the sudden, he's fumbling for his phone] Wait, hold on, I need to call--[and he's flicking through the phone, looking for someone because that has suddenly become top priority]

[mismanagement]

[Maketh blinks.] I can show you, if you like. I'm afraid we haven't had much in the way of scientific input, but...

[fortunefavored]

Oh man, you're about to get some--[HE'S SO HYPE except]--I'm looking for someone, though--[scrolling through...scrolling through...buffering...]

[mismanagement]

[Maketh rocks back on her heels.] All right.

[She can wait.]

[fortunefavored]

[aaaaand...found him. Once he finds Hermann, Newt let's out a huge sigh of relief. It's at that point he glances up at Maketh, briefly, though his attention is still mostly on his phone, already starting to move away oops]

Hey, listen, I really want to continue this conversation but it's gonna have to be later because I gotta find my boyfriend.

[mismanagement]

[Boyfriend? Hmm. Maketh nods.] All right. You can contact me easily enough through the phones, or find me at the guard post.

Will do; talk to you soon! [Newt's lifting a hand in farewell, already starting to lift the phone to his ear so he can call Hermann. Toodles, Maketh!]
