What: The Regret This event
Where: Throughout the city
When: June 25th-July 3rd
Warnings: Sorrow is resurrected, and everyone is immediately full of regrets
Hope has finally managed another god resurrection, and the people have spoken! On June 25th, he musters his powers and brings Sorrow back to Hadriel. An orchard appears across the river, in the until now ruined part of the city, and Sorrow's temple is also restored. Hooray! One more god to make things a little more livable in this place.
Of course, it's not that easy. It never is. Along with Sorrow himself comes a wave of regret and guilt that blankets the city. All those affected will be inclined to not only be sad, but to linger over past regrets and things they feel guilty about. They can distract themselves with everyday tasks or whatever else they please, but they'll find that their thoughts drift back to these regrets regardless of what they do.
And of course, the best way to purge a guilty conscience is confession, right? On top of these persistent sad thoughts, people will feel the urge to tell others about them, to air their past mistakes or misdeeds and possibly receive some kind of forgiveness. So what if your neighbor doesn't care that you cheated on your final exams all through school? You have to tell someone, and they're right there. If it doesn't make you feel better, that probably means you haven't confessed to enough people yet, or maybe you just haven't found the right person. Better try again!
On July 3rd, Sorrow has settled in and this urge to confess your sins will die down, along with the constant regret. Let's hope you didn't confess anything too personal. Remember, you're gonna have to see some of these people every day.► This log covers June 25th-July 3rd.

Firo stops in his tracks and looks him up and down warily.]
What the hell do you want?
no subject
Which is odd as he strides his way right into Firo's personal space. Victor's eyes are a bit blood shot, which for an immortal means he had to be crying a mere moment ago for it to still be visible.]
Just shut the hell up and listen, okay? Sorry.
[Already apologizing for just snapping at Firo.]
Look, I just wanted to tell you something. I know it's got to be weighing on you, the fact that I could one day arrest and even devour Ennis. You got some weird connection there that I won't even get into. I've been using that threat and dangling it over your head because I know you'd go all tough guy on me if I just threatened to devour you.
[Not getting to the point might make this sound even more terrible. Victor goes on though.]
But I won't. I only did that because I needed to get to Huey. He plays with people and disposes of them like trash. He even tried to blow up my men, people I try to protect from people like us. He's a monster and I can't crack him. So I made that threat to get you in on it. I know that makes me the bad guy too and there's no real excuse. I sent you because you're new and you're an immortal. I couldn't send innocent people after a guy like that. It had to be someone like us.
And I wouldn't harm Ennis. She even ate one of my friends and I'd still never take revenge on her. If I did that I'd be just as bad as Szilard and Huey.
[Yup, he's crying again. Unloading is hard.]
You got Szilard's memories and she devoured a friend of mine and I can't even fathom taking revenge on the two of you. Kinda lame right?

Why is he saying all this? Why now?
When Victor’s done, he just stares for what feels like a long time.]
W-wait, what?
[Hang on. He smacks his forehead and shakes his head—be serious about all this! He can’t let his guard down right now.]
Are you just pullin’ my leg about all this?
no subject
[That doesn't sound like an apology, but it gets him to stop crying at least.]
And don't think this makes me a push over. If you push me you'll end up locked away like Huey. I might not be a complete monster but I still got to protect people, you know?
[Why is he even trying to get Firo to agree with him?]
no subject
You don’t strike me as the kinda guy who apologizes.
[The crying, though… that’s something else. Firo doesn’t know many men who’d do that easily—or at all. To put it simply, it’s a sign of weakness that many wouldn’t want to show, even to prove that they’re genuine. If Victor has an angle here, he’s not sure what it could be.
His eyes search Victor’s face for any hint of evasiveness.]
You really mean it about Ennis? Even after everything?
[His gaze hardens.]
I can’t forgive threats against my family that easily, you know. Even if you say all you want, maybe nothing’ll change between us, so do you really wanna bother?
[To tell the truth, he wants to believe it. It’d be one hell of a relief. But he has to think of the big picture here. …Still, how much does it matter if Ennis is safe? He’s told himself several times, while stewing in Alcatraz and in this cave, that that was all he wanted.]

I'm not the type. Usually lying is the worst thing I do to people. That and maybe rough up a guy if he deserves it.
[Well, that cat is out of the bag. Time to continue on what's compelling him.]
I knew when I made you fear for your pals I'd be making enemies. Honestly, I still think you're a shitty little criminal and I still want to hate you for that. We have the chance to make life better for everyone and instead I spend all my time having to make sure people like you don't use your position to do something terrible like most of the assholes out there.
And I don't care if it doesn't change anything, I'm saying it, okay? Ennis is safe. The rest of your shitty friends are safe. Hell, even Maiza is safe. I might throw a few of you in jail if they break the law, but they'll get out just like anyone else after doing her time. Even if they are immortal.
If someone else comes for revenge on your pals, I'd have to lock them up too for trying. Even if Ennis has done some shitty things that doesn't mean she deserves to die. I might have thought it at some of my lowest times but It'd never sit well with me.
Hell, I'd even have locked of Szilard if I could have but he pushed his luck.
[He's sad, but no longer crying. He's trying to stiffen up but he can't get the resolve to do so. Instead he just sighs and runs a hand down his face. Victor's not sure what's gotten into him but he can't let it go now.]
So we're still enemies, but you don't have to worry about me doing anything permanent to you or your friends. I guess that means I have to find a new way to out maneuver you guys if you already know I can't kill you. I will, but fuck I already feel bad thinking of it.
no subject
So is that something he should get credit for? Firo admonishes himself. It’d be stupid to get in too much of a forgiving mood.]
She doesn’t.
[Firo, at least, acknowledges that sympathy for Ennis is probably going to be very hard for Victor to come by—fairly, perhaps, considering what she did to his friend. He’s not sure he could convince him or the clemency she deserves just by explaining her situation.]
If it makes you feel so bad, you could just not, you know.
[He harps on this small point not because he thinks he actually has a chance of convincing Victor. And he doesn’t think he really needs to; the fact that he won’t kill Firo’s friends is pretty big already—way more than he would’ve hoped.
That is, if he’s telling the truth. Ludicrous as everything Victor’s saying sounds, Firo’s actually inclined to believe him. Years of ferreting out cheaters has taught him a little something about reading people when it counts, and Victor just doesn’t read as a liar right now.]
