Hakkai| Open
[Hakkai likes things clean. His own house is neat and tidy and everything has its proper place. This is a clinic, so he takes extra care to keep things clean. Filth can lead to infection or having the staff become sick and this place isn't abundant with health care. They are it. If the whole clinic staff comes down with something because things aren't clean, then who is going to take care of them? Better to take care of things with preventative measures.
So you can find Hakkai dusting and sweeping and wiping down everything that might have a finger print on it.]
HEALER
[Do you have an injury that needs to be patched up? A broken bone? A gash to the face? Hakkai can fix that right up. Depending on what it is, your character might get his qi-healing treatment which can close up a wound in minutes or they might get a band-aid. It all depends.
Or if your character is feeling sick, Hakkai will help out with the symptoms.]
CARD GAMES
[When Hakkai isn't cleaning or taking care of patients, he's playing with the cards because cards are fun.]
LUNCH BOX
[Usually Hakkai brings a little extra lunch for anyone on staff who wants it. Come share a meal with him. He's a pretty darn good cook.]
[NOTE: Anyone on staff can play with Hakuryuu, his little dragon-jeep-pet-thing.]
card games
People will think that you are a bad doctor when you're playing cards, yes?
[A doctor needs a good reputation, after all, and playing the kind of games that is often playing for money will not help with that. And form what he's observed he is fairly sure that this man is a doctor.]
no subject
But he likes children, he's worked with children. He smiles at him and beckons him over with a downward gesture of his hand, commonly seen in East Asia.]
Hahaha. I'm just a helper.
Did you need something? Are you feeling ill?
no subject
No. I work here.
[Or he's going to work here. He still needs to figure things out a bit more. In the drabwurld, there were many villages without a healer, so it was clear that he would work outside of structures, and on the Tranquility there was a clear hierarchy that he could fit in. But here, things seem to be somewhere in-between.]
no subject
I help with keeping things organized and tidy. And if people are hurt or sick, I help make them better.
I see. So you work here then? What do you help with?
no subject
I'm a healer and a medical asistant. [They are separate things for him because they use different means and philosophies - healing and modern medicine-, even if there is obvious overlap.] I can treat injuries, sicknesses and pregnancies in people and animals. Unless the people aren't biological. [He's no mechanic, after all.]
And you are a nurse?
no subject
I wouldn't call myself a nurse, either.
[He keeps his smile steady, ever the poker face.]
Have you spoken with Dr.Banner, then? He's really the one in charge. He organizes the staff and usually likes to speak with people before they jump in just to keep things orderly.
no subject
[So Hakkai should be more specific about what he does aside from being the local cleaning staff, in Muscovy's opinion. It's no good when you don't know what your colleagues can do.]
no subject
I see. Well, my name is Hakkai. It's nice to meet you.
no subject
We will meet again.
[And with that he will retreat to fade back into simply being around, unless Hakkai addresses him from his side.]
cleaning
Today he's just arrived, and seeing Hakkai hard at work, Adam begins cleaning as well.]
You should take a break. You've done a lot.
no subject
Thank you. I'm all right, though. I'm almost finished dusting. I'll take a break then.
[He knew about a younger boy that worked there, but he had never met him before now. They might have just been missing each other.
He runs a cloth over some of the shelves.]
I'm Hakkai. It's nice to meet you.
[A small 'achoo!' comes from behind a piece of machinery and a tiny white dragon with a cloth in its mouth pops his head out. He was getting the hard to reach places.]
Hahaha. And that's Hakuryuu.
no subject
[His response is polite and careful, but his guarded nature relaxes a bit at the sight of the dragon, eyes widening in something like wonder. Adam's seen plenty of amazing things, but he's never seen a dragon before - and definitely not one so small and cute. It's almost like something Ronan would dream.]
Hakuryuu. Is it...
[Asking if it's real seems strange, and probably wouldn't make any sense to Hakkai. But it's Adam's instinctive response. Clearly, though, the creature is real. Maybe it comes from Hakkai's home? Adam alters his question quickly, to be a little more polite and less strange.]
Um, a boy or a girl?
no subject
He's a boy.
[He smiles pleasantly as he watches his pet being sociable. Adam looked to be about Goku's age--his proper age, but less sunny. He sort of recognizes that guarded air from having one all of his life.
He goes back to wiping down a surface.]
What is it that you do here, if I may ask?
no subject
Whatever I can. Organize the supplies, clean, repair things. I know some basic first aid, so I can take care of easy things like minor wounds.
[And he doesn't rattle easily, so he can help with more difficult things - blood and gore aren't his favorite, but he won't throw up or run away, so he makes a decent assistant.]
You're one of the doctors, right?
no subject
[Hakuryuu approaches easily and sniffs his hand before moving closer to Adam to be pet with a soft 'kyuuu'.
Hakkai pauses for a moment at the question. Why does everyone think he's a doctor? Does he give off that doctor vibe? It's got to be the monocle or something.]
Ahaha...I'm not a doctor, no. I'm one of the healers.
Other than that, I clean and organize and know first aid as well.
[He says 'one of the healers' but...]
Are there any others that work here that have healing abilities that you know of?
[Because if so, that means he doesn't have to spend as much of his qi on Hadriel when a crisis comes and he can avoid passing out.]
no subject
He's very careful still, fingers gentle as he pets Hakuryuu.]
Oh, I'm sorry. You seemed to know what you were doing, so I just assumed.
[And Adam's curiosity is piqued by the mention of healing abilities, though he holds off on his questions.]
Not that I know of, but there are a lot of people coming in and out of here.
[He hesitates for a moment, not sure he should mention it since it doesn't really count and he's only done it once, but -]
I've been able to relieve pain a little with my own magic, but I can't heal.
no subject
Hakkai nods at that. He was no stranger to humans being able to use magic. There was no set rule on it in his world. It was whatever people could think of and master.]
That's a useful skill to have on its own.
If I may ask, what kind of magic?
[He's curious. He might get ideas if anything.]
no subject
[And even now Adam's a little reticent to tell people - but logically he knows there isn't really any reason to be. It seems like nearly everyone here has fantastic powers, so his are really nothing of note. They don't need to be a secret.]
I made a bargain, and because of it I have access to power. I can sense magic and ley lines, and I can scry, and when I try I can get the magic to do other things. Sometimes. It has a mind of its own.
[That's the best he can do at describing it, anyway. He pets Hakuryuu, wondering if maybe he can bring some treats for the dragon. Adam is perhaps more easily won over by cute creatures than by people.]
no subject
I understand. We have magic similar to that in my world.
[They had all kinds of magic imaginable. In fact, Kougaiji had access to magic through a bargain coupled with his own.
He stops wiping down the surface and starts putting the cleaning supplies he was using away.
Hakuryuu closes his eyes. He would love treats.]
Control is a difficult thing to master.
[He says this from experience. Though he hasn't even mastered control when his limiters are off and he doubts he ever will.]
no subject
Do you? We don't really in my world. I'm still figuring it out.
[He's gotten better at communicating with Cabeswater, at least, and they understand each other better. But he still doesn't always know how to get the magic to do what he wants it to, or what it can do, even.]
I don't control it. We... work together, I guess. Is your magic similar?
no subject
He nods at the 'Do you?' that Adam asks him.]
Ah. I see....
Mine isn't, but there is someone from my world who uses contracted magic.
[He goes to sit down to take a break, letting out a breath and setting his dragon onto his shoulder.]
Mine is qi manipulation. I use my own qi to do different things. So far I've managed healing, qigong canon which is an offensive technique, and then a qi barrier which is a shield.
Hahaha. I don't think I'd find a willing participant if I wanted to pursue contracted magic.
[Because, really, he knows he's a terrible person.]
no subject
So you can use it to do pretty much whatever you want, as long as you figure out how?
[That sounds nice. And very practical, especially if you need to fight sometimes, which it seems like Hakkai does. Adam is not as interested as learning about different kinds of magic as Gansey is, but he does find it interesting, and sometimes he can learn things that will help him.
Cabeswater isn't quite like any other kind of magic, but sometimes concepts can be similar.]
What do you mean, a willing participant? How does it work where you're from?
no subject
[It is very practical. Unfortunately, he's used it not so practically and it's cost him. But such is the life of constant danger.
He smiles. His humor was a little lost in translation, but then that's almost to be expected. This young man seemed a little more like himself when he was younger. More serious.
But if he is serious, he'd try to give him the information he seeks. He doesn't mind imparting knowledge when he can give it.]
Unfortunately, I don't know too much of it in specific detail. That's something to ask the person that can use the contracted magic.
But I would think one would seek out a way to get in touch with the spirit or demon or whatever source. Then they would initiate a ritual to make direct contact with it and then the entity would deem them worthy to use their power.
That would make the most sense.
[Meaning, he definitely doesn't think he's worthy of anything's power.]
no subject
[It's the closest to his own magic that he's heard of, but it still doesn't sound quite the same. But Adam is interested, curious. It seems like Hakkai knows a lot about this sort of thing, and though Adam is in equilibrium with Cabeswater and has been learning to use magic more easily, he still feels nothing like some of the people where who have total control over their abilities and know exactly what they can do.]
It sounds a little like what happened to me, but - not exactly.
[He starts cleaning, taking care to be thorough.]
It would be nice to be from a place where that sort of thing is more common.
