What: The event log for the Extinction event!
Where: All around the city
When: July 22nd-July 29th

On July 22nd, Hope puts the call out for a little help with this monster problem he's been having - for the second time. In exchange for some prizes, he'd like you to go into the caves and kill him a few monsters! He'll be keeping an eye out and rewarding you for each kill, so grab a friend and a sword and get to work. Just try not to get lost in the caves - they're pretty extensive, and no one seems to have a decent map. Also, you know. They're full of slavering hellbeasts.
If you're not a fighter, don't worry! Hope also wants to clean things up around the city a little. There'll be caches of cleaning supplies, tools, paint, and other various piece of beautifying equipment available to find in the shops, and he plans to reward people for the time and effort they put in there, too! His sense of artistry is not particularly advanced, so don't worry about impressing him. You'll probably get an A for effort regardless.
For those characters participating in the beautifying portion of the event, please comment here with a brief description of what your character will be doing - for example 'painting three buildings and cleaning up the roads around the clinic'. If your character will be killing some of the monsters, please comment here and let us know how many they've taken out - for example 'three cacodemons and one troll'. For reference, here is a list of the amount of each monster that can be found in the caves:

<3 my favourite knight
It had made the month easier to bear, somewhat. And thus, she could work on things like the healing cells or simply attempting to have a life.
(The latter? Not quite that easy.)
Henry catches her when she's half-daydreaming, leaning against the table she's set up and staring off at no wall in particular. ] Oh. [ With a quick jerk back into reality, Kate's reaching behind her for one of the trinkets that were left. Aid, trinket, cell. It all meant the same thing, right? ] Aye. [ she holds out a bracelet in her hand - some tacky friendship bracelet made of colourful thread with cheap beads in it. It looks entirely normal, really. Maybe a bit too easy to overlook, in fact. ]

[Henry remarks with an undercurrent of dryness, before he takes the bracelet. After inspecting it, he gives Kate a look that suggests he thinks its complete lack of dignity has something to do with her sense of humour.]
...One supposes its purpose is all that truly matters.
[And then, finally considering that his sardonic tone might not be ideal when he has requests to ask of her, he touches gauntleted knuckles to his mouth in a habitual gesture before taking a more polite approach.]
If you would provide the Guard with two of these, then you shall have our sincere gratitude. They would serve us well on patrol.
no subject
Well, okay, so there were less ridiculous options...At his request, she simply plucks another from the pile - this is less terrible, simply a smooth pebble that she washed and cleaned after finding on the street. ] Here. [ Said with complete neutrality, despite the fact that a brief, almost pleased curl of her lips flashes across her face. It's nice to actually do something useful, for a change. ] Tap [ sharply ] on them to use them. Once to activate, once to deactivate. Has to be touching the injury to heal it.

[The instructions are easy enough to remember. It's fortunate that he keeps a pouch on his belt to hold his phone, since it gives him somewhere to put both healing cells -- his armour doesn't allow for pockets.
With that done, Henry shifts his weight and puts a hand on his hip, cocking his head.]
I have some questions to put to you. None of which are official, I make haste to add. Do you mind?
[He does not want her to misconstrue his curiosity for Guard business, lest she feel that she cannot refuse to answer. They're mostly about her powers, but some are mere idle speculations. Her name, for example, and her vaguely familiar accent. He feels that he should know it, somehow.]

You said these aids must be recharged. Be it both the healing magic and your own that fades? How long can your enchantments last?

Have you encountered any abilities not compatible with yours?

I am not wholly surprised.
[While back home he can extend his own unique talent to thirty men, he cannot here. But with Kate confirming some of his prior speculation, perhaps... well. In due time.]
What place call you home?
[Since she mentioned it, he is quick to put that question out there. Her accent is an itch in his mind -- he should know it. That sentiment perhaps echoes in his tone. What obscures it, of course, is the difference hundreds of years make.]
no subject
but the sudden change in topic? well, it's easier, but more surprising all the same. she blinks for a moment, because home has been a lot of different places over the years, but there's always one: ] Town near- [ Manchester, the answer she's gotten used to giving with all the people who decidedly do not have the familiar lilt of their tone that Henry does. ] I mean. Wigan. D'you know it?
no subject
[Wigan becomes part of Greater Manchester long after his era.]
And Galloway -- have you a Scottish ancestor?
[Family names deriving from a person's hometown are common enough. He finds a certain amusement in the thought, given that he knows the Douglas Lords of Galloway all too well.]
no subject
(wigan will always be lancashire, no matter what the borders say. at least, that's how it goes for the people she grew up around,)
her head lolls back in thought at that second question. there is a family tree, written by her maternal grandmother (who kate never remembers meeting, the woman died when she was still a toddler), somewhere in the box of family effects she keeps under her bed back home. it's been a while since she read it but- ] ...Some generations back, aye. You know people up that way? [ that side of her family is about as british as sunday roast down in the pub. scotland is about as exotic as it gets.
and while this conversation is actually sparking her curiosity - or at least a familiarity that is somewhat settling - there are other things that should be discussed in a more official capacity. once the boss turns up, anyway. ]
no subject
I do. For my part, home is Northumberland. [Mainly Warkworth and Alnwick, but particular places in the county don't really matter when it's all Percy land.] Defence of the border is the duty of my family. In practice 'tis a mix of war and treaty.
[Both of which involve knowing those on the other side. Henry momentarily touches the back of his head with his free hand, shifting his weight between his legs. He then looks directly at Kate.]
I have another request to make of you.
no subject
She tilts her head and tugs her lips to one side. More? It's been an enlightening conversation, one that's taken turns she wasn't quite expecting, and- well, even after the entire mess of last month, she doesn't hold anything against the guard; she just doesn't know any of them, really, outside of their work (apart from Glacius, obviously) -it's pleasant. Let's leave it at that. When you're not feeling defensive and tired from your own mistakes, it's easier to see the people beyond the interrogators.
(And that was still a far better interview session than she expected, so can she really be that upset with them? Nah.) ]
Sure. What?
no subject
Would you consider performing enchantments for willing members of the Guard?
[It is a complicated request, all things considered. Henry grimaces faintly.]
Let me not strain your goodwill. Answer at your leisure.
[They won't lose anything if she refuses or needs time to think about it. In this case, pressuring her seems a poor choice.]
no subject
Oh, we've [ the clinic, she means; ] got a... suggestion, I s'pose. [ that's one way of putting it. ]
no subject
[Says Bruce, coming over, dusting his hands off. He's finished setting out his share of the packs, and this seems like a good moment to interrupt.]
Are you talking about the potential plan?
no subject
I am listening.
no subject
no subject
[He agrees, equal parts determined and hopeful.]

He will have to discuss it with Maketh, of course, but he foresees no real problems. They lost Damen a few weeks ago, and Nick is still in no condition to fight, but their numbers remain sufficient barring a veritable flood of newcomers. Though he suspects that he and Maketh might have a more realistic view on what constitutes as concentrated force. Nor can they account for the actions of combatants outside of their ranks. Hopefully common sense will prevail in those cases. Regardless, they shall intervene where they are needed.]
Very well. The Guard shall see both done.
[He says decisively.]
no subject
Some of our staff are competent fighters. [ She's seen Hakkai battle, and while she doesn't have half the raw supernatural power he does, Kate manages to hold her own more than well enough. ] We can station people outside if needed.
no subject
[He out and out admits.]
I can come with you, but there's a risk of it getting out of hand. I don't want to send you into danger when I could help, but I don't know if I can say how safe a help I could be.
no subject
It seems unwise to me to put your staff in danger, however martially able. Your particular skills cannot be replaced. We would not take such a risk unless the situation was truly desperate.
[He reaches up and taps the edge of his shield -- which is strapped on his back for easy carrying -- just visible over his shoulder.]
Should there be a need for one of yours to attend to a casualty inside the colosseum, then one of ours shall defend them. Let our priority be the fighting.
