Intro Log: Arm Yourself

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-15th
Warnings: Stalkers, newbies, and cute loot!

Sleeping on the cold dirt ground of the colosseum is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. It might be a little worse this month than others, as some of you may be waking up on top of or around various self defense devices (btw: that last one is a taser).

Come to think of it, you'll probably need those. Also in the colosseum and already stalking you are... uh, well, stalkers from the Borderlands game series. Stalkers come armed with claws, teeth, and sharp tails- and what's more, they can turn invisible to sneak up on you. Zap them with your newfound taser or stab them with your jewelry comb knife or just run away screaming- we won't judge, but you have to do something or else they'll kill you and eat your corpse and all sorts of unfortunate things.

Good luck finding a way out. Maybe you can make some friends along the way.

All done and escaped from the clutches of the colosseum? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers August 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[Chara can agree that losing body parts would suck.]

Agreed. Perhaps we could begin with an introduction between the two of us and then try to find a way without upsetting the gods. Who are you?

Crow! It used to be Bird, but that wasn't working out for me. [ He shrugs a little.

Fluffing his wings, he remembers that April was the one that gave him the name. And that they were separated now. He shouldn't throw away a good chance to get back to her, even if it means meeting a god. Otherwise he would never agree to this! ]

And you, kid?
somuchlove: (57)

[personal profile] somuchlove 2016-08-11 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I am Chara. This place is called Hadriel.

[That's the name they were told, anyways.]

It appears we were brought here by these gods for emotions. I am unsure of anything beyond that.
skelebro: (i'll make a million mistakes)

[He manages to jerk them back so the hail of spikes don't end up tearing the kid up, but god, he hasn't had to do this kind of work since he showed up here, and he's out of practice. Bad.

Then the thing flares back into existence, circling the pair, its throat gurgling with a low, threatening growl-like noise. Sans feels his grin assume a fixed, hardened edge as he releases his hold on the kid's SOUL.

Ah, hell.]

Kid?

[He calls to them, the word a low, nervous pull of the single syllable. The thing hisses and unleashes another spray of spines.

MISS.

But he can't dodge forever, right? Ha. Nope. Doesn't get that privilege anymore.]
circumitus: Why was that not a good enough reason to put me to bed? (threw a jar of pickles at a police car)

Now that's interesting. Most people don't seem to have much memory of how they got here. Rey herself wasn't anywhere near any sort of interdimensional anomaly in her world, simply because one doesn't exist where she's from. That she knows of, anyway.

"You showed up at the Colosseum, didn't you? Along with whatever other creatures that came out of it? That seems where everyone comes in." She pauses, and squints again. "What do you mean by 'portal'?"

It certainly is the first time anyone has mentioned such a thing to Rey.

[personal profile] funnybird 2016-08-11 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
"What do I mean by 'portal'? I mean a portal, doll! You know, magic portal? With the mystic lights and a different realm on the other side?"

Hello? Is he speaking bird? He's pretty sure he's speaking Alltongue right now. What doesn't she get? Unless...

Oh.

"You're from Stark too? Are you kidding me? Another one? I met another one? You have got to be joking! Two in a row? Just. My. Luck!"

[It really isn't hard to believe that people are downtrodden here. It's a hard hurt when people get played with. He doesn't like it, but he doesn't have to so long as he can help. Or at least try to help.

So he watches, quietly, for a moment before he approaches. She's his friend, though. He should look out for her. Even more than he looks out for everyone else.

She's earned that much at least.]

Is something wrong with the words?
funnybird: (Default)

[personal profile] funnybird 2016-08-11 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
See? That's what I don't get about gods. They take, take, take!

[ In his defense, he doesn't have a lot of experience with gods. But it's safe to assume this was a pretty selfish act on their part! ]

I was a perfectly happy bird with a—... Well, I wouldn't say normal life. I couldn't complain. Why go and ruin that for me? Er, for any of us?
circumitus: Keep up the good work. (it's a 12/12/12 miracle)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-08-11 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
If Rey hadn't spent more than half a year in this place, she'd probably chalk up what the bird is saying as some sort of fucked up hallucinatory trip spawned by malnutrition and lack of sleep. As it is, she is very lucid right now, even in face of this talk of portals and magic and all other sorts of insane shit.

She opens her mouth to speak, before the bird interjects his own train of thought.

"The hell is Stark? And no, don't come from a world with magic or portals or magic portals."

And then Rey comes to the stunning realization that this is most likely not a jabberjay, after all.

[colosseum]

He's woken up in plenty of uncomfortable places before. Serenity's bunks, matter of fact, aren't exactly a luxury suite in the Core's finest hotels. More like lumpy cotton covered in a bamboo sheet, over a hard metal surface. But at least it's not sharp. Wincing, the prone man rolls over, groaning as he extracts a....plastic pig??...from its place seemingly lodged in his right kidney. The bizarre sight takes a moment to sink in.

And then he realizes that the hum of the engine is gone, he isn't on Serenity anymore, and his sister's nowhere in sight. He'd blame Jayne, if he didn't immediately fixate on

"River!! River, where--"

He's on his feet and yelling, stopping only at the rustle of movement behind him. As he turns, he trips over another of those stupid pigs, which turns out to be lucky for him--the stinger of the stalker misses him by inches. Adrenaline pumping, he lunges back to his feet, backing away slowly. He'd run, but that would just give the thing a chance to stab him in the back. And on the off chance she might be nearby to hear him...

"River! Run!"

[streets]

He doesn't like letting his sister out of his sight, but she's having a good day, despite their circumstances. More or less lucid, moreso than him, maybe. Perhaps because of who she is, what she is. It's no question why River's here, not once he's had the rules of this place laid out for him, but no one's using his sister for food of any kind, so he's going to take his moments of solitude to keep those shee-niou gods from taking advantage of what the Alliance did to her. But that means information, which means talking to people on the street, however reluctantly.

"Ah, pardon me. I'm a little turned around. Is there a library somewhere near here?" It's ridiculously primitive to not have the Cortex, but he'll take what he can.

The Colosseum
[She snaps awake, hands already on her zanpakutou, because this is definitely not where she went to sleep. She can't remember going to sleep, in fact, but that's beside the point. The point being that she's somewhere new and bewildering and something about the sky seems off and, well, there's something going on, she knows it. Scrambling to her feet in the sand, she listens, reaches out with her senses, looking for Hollows... the roar that comes is reminiscent thereof, but without that odd reverb Hollows have.]

[Still, her weapon is drawn and she's searching with darting eyes for the source. Yes there are cute, bright things scattered around her on the sand, but she pays them no mind... Until she spots a cute bunny-shaped-something on the ground, that is. And picks it up, just for safe keeping, you understand.]

What can a tiny shinigami do with a sword in one hand and a bunny-shaped-taser in the other (even if she hasn't quite figured out how to work the second one just yet)? These non-Hollow-monsters are about to find out.]

The City
[It doesn't take her long to get out of the colosseum and out into the city, unharmed, armed with a new (adorable!) weapon in addition to her old familiar one tied to her side in its sheath. She may not be accepting that she's stuck just yet, but she will definitely explore as much of this place as she can, while she can.]

[Of course, it takes a certain amount of getting used to that, while she seems to have all her attendant skills and powers and uniform, seemingly-normal people can actually see her and that's weird.]

Wait, sorry, you can see me?

Wildcard
[ooc: There are five days of wandering around the city and sticking her nose into places she likely shouldn't, honestly. Random encounters are a go! If you want to plot something more concrete with me, hmu on plurk or something!]

[Ironically, the one crossing Frisk's path this time isn't even a human. Not that one would immediately tell just by looking at her -- indeed Rey has all of the necessary parts that would qualify her as human in appearance alone.

[And what comes out when she speaks is a soft-spoken monotone, almost robotic:]

What are you doing?

[It's an impression that she graces with a lot of strangers. The "dumb robot act", as it's once been called. But this child, who for some reason is digging their way through some building wreckage, would have no way of knowing that.]

[Oh good, just what this place needs - more raving lunatics. Especially those who seem suspicious. Mello, of course, is an expert in seeming suspicious, walking toward the shops with the hood of his jacket pulled up over his head. (Ask him why he needs to wear a hood in an underground city - go ahead.) Still, the seeming note of familiarity in the other man's muttering catches his attention, so he stops and addresses him without anything resembling a polite preamble.]

big>A. Colosseum

[L has been sleeping like someone dead, and actually, it's not far-off. He was dead, having closed his eyes forever in the arms of the one who orchestrated his fall. That had been painful, from the initial tight clench of his heart stopping to the way his back hit the hard floor in spite of Light's token efforts to cushion his landing. Then it had all faded to nothing as the detective had slipped quietly out of existence, leaving a thin body behind that was still damp from the rain, but going, like all humans, to Nothingness as a Shinigami's sacrifice added the remainder of his years to Misa Amane's.

He wakes up to the realization that he's breathing in dust, bolting upright with agility that a corpse can't possess. He's still damp, the front of his clothes picking up the dirt of the colosseum floor, and a hand searching for his cell phone falls instead on an unfamiliar object. Brief examination reveals it to be a pink taser; he grips it more tightly as the ground trembles. Whether this is a nightmare on the edge of death or some kind of twisted afterlife trial, having his wits about him at this time will be of the utmost importance. Those were never in short supply for the genius detective, but unfortunately, they're rather scattered at the moment.

He's nimbler than he looks on his bare feet, and dances out of the way of a wide-swiping motion of one of the creature's terrifying appendages. Next time, he might not be so lucky, and his dark eyes flick attentively over the creature, looking for any spot that could be particularly vulnerable to a sudden shock.]

B. Around the City

[The colosseum fight put L through paces the likes of which he's never had to endure. Mental stress and strain, even physical altercations, he can and has handled very successfully. That being said, he's only one shabby, scrawny young man, accustomed to sitting curled in a computer chair with a mound of sweets at his side and a butler at his beck and call. Running and fighting for his life doesn't happen often in such brutally literal terms, and even now that he's out of immediate harm's way, there's still something hollow and haunted about the way he shambles along, dirty and limping slightly on sore, bare feet.

He didn't die wearing shoes, after all. It's as if the ambulance pulled over, unzipped his body bag, and left him to revive exactly as he was. There are a lot of things he desperately needs, and the Razr-like flip phone in his pocket isn't one of them. He has no signal or service. He has no way of contacting those who must find him, now that Watari is dead. There's nothing to do for it except gnaw compulsively at knuckles that are starting to tear and bleed, watching his surroundings with wide saucer-eyes and attempting to plan his next move. Anything to establish himself, anything to achieve some kind of contact with some kind of ally. The problem is that so far, he has recognized no one, and he doesn't have the charisma or the social skills to command attention and help immediately. The best he can hope for is pity on sight and gentle sympathy, maybe resulting in a meal or a few words of useful advice.

There is so much he needs to do, and learn... but he's exhausted, and as poor as ever at recognizing that it means he needs to go easier on himself rather than pushing even harder until his flesh succumbs and collapses under unreasonable demands.]

It doesn't take a genius to learn the pattern of arrivals to the place. And judging from past events, they'd need assistance. Particularly since no one was ever prepared to find themselves in a cave.

And the beasts this time are particularly vicious, sliding in and out of stealth. Monsters like that make her wish she'd had thermal sensors installed. She's already put several down with her heavy pistol, but they seem never ending.

Then the blood starts flying, though the shots catch her attention first. But she still isn't fast enough, though she does end the monster before it can do now damage to the man's body.

She's cautious approaching, but eventually drops into a crouch next to him.

"Unfortunate."

The person who he's talking to, Victor, still somehow manages to look like he's from the 1890s despite the fact that his attire is half things stolen from various Hadriel shops. At Simon's question though, he can't help but nod, faint traces of a wry smile playing on his face.

"I doubt you'll find it much use, though. All the books are written in a foreign language. I'm currently attempting to make a translation, but languages are hardly my forte."

He hears it just as consciousness returns, and as he takes in a breath his hand moves almost instinctively to the pistol he'd dropped on his way down. The last he'd seen, there was still one creature left.

It's only a fraction of a second to reassess the situation, but it's a bit longer than that to formulate a reply. Frankly the whole thing is strange enough that he doesn't even think to put in the effort to smile when he sits up. There's blood, yes, and a good-sized tattered hole in his shirt, but the skin is unbroken.

"Yes... I suppose so." Sato says after a moment, giving a puzzled squint to EDI, testing a few questions in his mind. Would you mind explaining what's going on? Are you a part of this scenario? I didn't realize they had quite such advanced robotics in Japan? Or is there a person in there somewhere? Who knows. Just go with it for now. And, most certainly, keep the gun in hand. That is most definitely... disconcerting, if she could borrow an organic term. It isn't that she made a mistake--the man was dead. And while she hardly believes Hope would let any of them remain that way for long, she'd thought the process was significantly slower.

Either something strange is happening, or she's missed something about the place. Neither is that great a prospect.

Had she been organic, she might have jumped halfway to the sky when the man sat up, but instead she stares for a moment, then cautiously stands and holsters her pistol. No need to put anyone else even more on edge, and she's fairly certain her body can withstand most damage he could do to her.

"My official designation is Enhanced Defense Intelligence, though most organics find it simpler to refer to me as EDI."

"Military technology?" Sounds like it, at least, from that description. Everything is still completely wrong for this to be some kind of bizarre military exercise, but it, well, 'she' doesn't seem to want to shoot him, even despite his now-obvious status as a demi-human. Interesting, but still incredibly puzzling and way too many unknowns. Sato is quite happy to keep his pistol out, but pointed at the ground.

"Perhaps you could explain just what I've been dropped into, EDI," he says, taking it all pretty calmly at least. Does he even need to act for a robot? More mysteries.

"Yes." Not any military anyone here seems to have heard of, but military nonetheless. No doubt the Illusive Man would be thrilled to hear her call herself that, even if she thought of herself now as more Alliance tool than Cerberus creation. At least he hasn't asked whether she's an AI or not. That would make things far simpler.

She simply chooses not to elaborate any further on the implications of being military technology.

"I have so far been told that this cave is owned by several good and we are subject to their continued attempts to incite particular emotions within the captives. Evidently, they are powered by our feelings associated with their specific domain.

"It is currently unclear what their greater goal is, or whether they have one at all."
