Intro Log: Arm Yourself

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-15th
Warnings: Stalkers, newbies, and cute loot!

Sleeping on the cold dirt ground of the colosseum is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. It might be a little worse this month than others, as some of you may be waking up on top of or around various self defense devices (btw: that last one is a taser).

Come to think of it, you'll probably need those. Also in the colosseum and already stalking you are... uh, well, stalkers from the Borderlands game series. Stalkers come armed with claws, teeth, and sharp tails- and what's more, they can turn invisible to sneak up on you. Zap them with your newfound taser or stab them with your jewelry comb knife or just run away screaming- we won't judge, but you have to do something or else they'll kill you and eat your corpse and all sorts of unfortunate things.

Good luck finding a way out. Maybe you can make some friends along the way.

All done and escaped from the clutches of the colosseum? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[fadeling]

[It really isn't hard to believe that people are downtrodden here. It's a hard hurt when people get played with. He doesn't like it, but he doesn't have to so long as he can help. Or at least try to help.

So he watches, quietly, for a moment before he approaches. She's his friend, though. He should look out for her. Even more than he looks out for everyone else.

She's earned that much at least.]

Is something wrong with the words?

[closerift]

[ Cecily isn't at all surprised when Cole appears and offers him a rare, genuinely warm smile. ]

You could say that. [ What she's got are notes on her time in Hadriel with mentions of people, gods, monsters, and everything in between. It isn't as detailed as she would like, particularly at the beginning, but she figures it's better than nothing. ]

I wanted to ask you something. [ The Inquisitor speaks up again, pausing in her writing, looking curiously at him. ] Did you know that Rainier wasn't Blackwall before he gave the game away?

[ There's another pause, one more strained, and she adds: ]

And... Solas? Did you know he was going to leave, at the end?

[fadeling]

[It is nice to see her smile again. There isn't enough smiling in this place. Maybe there was supposed to be more, but he hasn't seen it.

But then the questions... Those make him pause for a moment. She already knows, though, right? He isn't giving anyone's secrets away if she already knows.

So he nods, slowly.]

Yes. But they weren't my secrets to say so I let them stay silent.

[But there was hurt attached to each memory. That was impossible to hide from him.]

[closerift]

I understand. [ She doesn't blame him for keeping that to himself, either. How could she? Things had turned out fine with Thom in the end, and though Solas is... a bit of a different story, she would never hold it against Cole. In fact, Cecily doesn't even know the extent of Solas' secrets, since she's yet to learn of his long, long history. ] Don't worry, I'm not angry.

[ As if she could be angry with him. ]

I just wanted to know. [ She clarified, wondering distantly what those deceptions felt like to Cole. How they came across in the silences to the boy-spirit. ]

[fadeling]

I know. [It's still comforting to hear that she isn't angry with him, though. Secrets can hurt, too, and keeping them can make it hurt more.

But it helped them to keep it a secret too. They could say when they were ready to.]

Does it help to know?

[closerift]

Yes. [ Absolutely. Solas had always been distant and he certainly hadn't been close with the Inquisitor, given that they argued at so many crucial junctions along the way. Thom, though-- ] Rainier is a good man, even knowing what he did. I'm glad that he could be spared a death at the gallows, even if he wasn't pleased with me for it.

[ He'd accused her of corruption when she snuck him out, but she couldn't apologize for that. He was a crucial piece of their functioning. He was - is - one of them.

He'd forgiven her eventually, just as she'd forgiven him. ]

[fadeling]

Yes. [He was a proud man, and yes, he'd hurt people, but he was trying to make it better. That helped.]

He thinks he should hurt to help the people he hurt but that only makes it hurt more.

[It's a cycle that's hard to break as long as he kept thinking that, and it's hard to show him another way when he doesn't want to see it.]

[closerift]

He wanted to die. [ Cecily says, low, recalling their conversation in the prison. ] Or... he wanted to have it end.

[ Those aren't the same things. Blackwall - Rainier had been in pain, tortured by the guilt of years and years of deception. ]

I hope we helped. [ She says finally. ]

[fadeling]

Don't doesn't always help. [It doesn't always end things, either.]

We did help. He was better, at the end.

[closerift]

[ That's good. Wherever he is, she thinks, she hopes that he's doing well. ]

Thank you, Cole. [ The Inquisitor says, smiling fleetingly over her drink. ] For, ah... humoring me.

[fadeling]

You don't need to. I like to listen.

[closerift]

I know. [ He listens - and more importantly, hears - more than most.

There's another pause, and then, as light as she can manage: ] Leliana mentioned a Dalish Inquisitor, too. Is it - it she the same woman that you remember? Inquisitor "Lavellan?"

[fadeling]

Maybe. I didn't ask.

[closerift]

I would think you'd want to compare notes.

[ She's curious and she's never met the Dalish woman. Obviously ]

[fadeling]

Why? If she's the same then I already know her. If she isn't she's someone else.

[closerift]

That's... a good point, actually.

[ Cole usually has good points, though. ]

Guess it makes more sense for you not to ask, then.

[fadeling]

Maybe it will later. But it doesn't matter now.

[closerift]

Why would it matter later?

[ Unless Lavellan came to the caves, in which case... things would be more than a little strange. ]

[fadeling]

I don't know yet. It isn't later.

[closerift]

You've a point there.

[ She chuckles lightly. ]

About time to look out for some of the other new arrivals, don't you think? Maker knows we all needed a little extra help before we got here.

[fadeling]
