When you wake up on the morning of August 13th - well, you'll notice that morning just doesn't really happen. The light that usually illuminates the cave doesn't start coming on, leaving things as dark as night. As if that's not enough, the light switches don't seem to work either. No matter how many times you flip them, the lights won't come on, although mysteriously the other appliances work as normal.
Afraid of the dark? Don't worry! You have oh-so-kindly been provided with lanterns, candles, and flashlights that sure do love to flicker just when you least want to be terrified. Hey, it's something, right?
Just as you begin to realize the artificial 'sun' isn't coming up, Fear appears to make an announcement to the network. What's not fun about scary stories when you're stuck in a dark cave surrounded by monsters? Nothing, that's what! So have fun, everyone - terrify your friends with that story about a cactus filled with spiders, try that classic scarecrow-falling-from-the-ceiling prank. It'll be a good time for everyone, especially Fear! We're sure no one will hold anything against you. On the morning of August 18th, the lights will finally come on as usual. Let's hope you don't have any nightmares!► This log covers August 13th-August 18th.

[ It's just human. At the question, she smiles, somewhat knowingly. ]
I would tell him none. Blue, he strangles you. Red, cuts you. None? He doesn't know what to do, so he leaves. It's so fucking weird.

[Jack smiles, amused by her story, but also trying not to think about what she said before it. It's true, too real, and therefore uncomfortable.]
Are you having another?
[He holds up the bottle and gives it a shake, sloshing around the liquor inside.]

[ She taps the top her glass, motioning him to fill it, her grin easing. ] I still know where I'm at, so can't quit yet. [ It's hard to sleep these days, so she's drinking until she's gone. ]
I'm Sharon, by the way. [ let's get to know who her new drinking buddy is! ]

[The smile that follows is easy, genuine. It's like a mask has been dropped. But she's clever and funny, and he apparently won't be alone if he drinks until he hits the floor. Jack fills her glass and clinks his against it.]
Do you know a lot about Fear? [He takes a drink, swallowing it quickly so he can clarify.] The god version.

He's a dick. [ First, and foremost. ] The last time we spoke, he said his goal was to leave this place, [ her brows curl together in a look of thoughtful doubt ] but I'm not sure how much of that I believe.
[ In that same conversation, he also stated he might stay awhile to gather more energy, or, worse yet, take some of them along with him on his epic journey of terror (something she was quick to decline, like it would make a difference). She takes a swig to drown the sudden anxious fear that threatens to turn her belly to knots. ] Honestly, I don't think we should believe anything any of them tell us.

No good will come of it if he does. [Maybe Fear really does want to leave, abandon these small masses for the much larger ones to abuse and feed off of. That seems very god-like to him. Jack nods in agreement.] I'm not inclined to believe in the kindness of their hearts when we're trapped in a cave and eating from dented cans.

They look down us. If they give us anything, it's to illicit an emotional response. [ She takes another drink, larger this time around. It doesn't burn anymore, but her eyes do, and she blinks back angry tears. ] They force us to relieve our nightmares, to see illusions or images of the people we love knowing that we might never see them again.
They hurt us, all of them. [ She's talking too much, getting emotional. She tries to reign it in, lowering her voice. Her grip on her glass is tight, and she wants to hurl it at the wall. ] And they won't ever send us home.
[ Hope likes to state otherwise, but Sharon knows better. ]

Jack lifts his hand and rests it on her shoulder. He's sure it's a piss-poor comfort coming from someone she barely knows, but he suddenly feels like they're very much on the same side.]
They might be feeding off of this too. [He says it quietly to counteract the tremble in her voice.] Don't give them the satisfaction.
[He lifts his drink then and downs it in one gulp.]

She swallows back a laugh, but cannot hide the bitter grin that pulls her lips taut, head shaking. ] You're right, but they'll get it from me one way or another.
[ They will have their hopes, and fears, and little joys and sorrows, no matter how hard they may try to lock them away. The gods are thieves, incredible thieves. ] It won't be this way forever, though. One way or another, something will give.
