Event Log: Fourth Wall, Part One

Who: Everyone in the city + Fourth Wall visitors!
What: Part one of the fourth wall event, hosted by Fear, Confusion, and Delight!
Where: All around the city
When: October 24th-November 1st
Warnings: Visitors from other worlds!

If you're not from around here, you may be wondering what's going on. You've woken up out of the blue in the colosseum, or near a temple, or in one of the numerous other locations in the city. You're somewhere underground and it's dark, cold, and maybe a little unnerving.

Luckily, shortly after your arrival, the road below your feet begins to light up in a gentle, warm glow. The light points you in a set direction and, if you choose to travel that way, will lead you toward the center of the city, where there is a large gathering of others who are lost here like you, people who might know their way around a bit more, and even some of the gods who rule this place.

There are lights strung up on poles throughout the large clearing, casting a comforting glow onto the tables beneath them. The tables are abundant with lots of food that looks simply delicious- though, none of it tastes quite like it should. The tarts taste like green beans, the mashed potatoes like cheesecake, and the chocolate seems oddly reminiscent of steak. In addition, there are decorations artfully placed around the meeting point. If you see them moving, don't worry- that's probably just your imagination.

Also distributed along the tables are shot glasses, filled with a sludgy, yellow substance. If you're brave enough to consume them, they taste strongly of mint and will give you a much needed energy boost, circumventing the need to eat or sleep for a full 24 hours! After that, however, everything hits you all at once, so use them wisely. Some of you may remember these shots from our How Delightful event earlier this year!

In addition to all of the above, there are also party poppers strewn around the area. Each popper can jet out some strange objects- glitter bombs, seashells, plastic dinosaurs, maybe a live lizard or two- so be careful! Feel free to use your discretion on these, but remember to keep it small!
_

Of course, you can always not travel that way. The rest of the city has plenty of places to explore- maybe you'd like to stumble in our Silent Hill zone, have a quick look around the alien orchard, or check out any of the god temples that can inspire their chosen emotion. Be careful not to get lost in the tunnels leading away from the cave- none of them can actually move you above ground, but you may run into a few monsters on the way.

For those of you who have been with us awhile, please bear with the gods while they try to adjust around these new folks! Join in on the festivities if you like, or try to orient as many of the others as you can. Start a community outreach program, start a fight club, introduce your parents to your weird cave girlfriend- nobody's judging!

Well. Some of us might be.
_

Enjoy the fourth wall event at Hadriel! Once you're settled in feel free to explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies.

Fourth wall characters do not enter with phones so they cannot reach the network- however, if you'd like to handwave that they somehow got ahold of Mello's Newcomer guide to avoid the 'where am I/what is this' sort of questions, then feel free!

Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers October 24th-November 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well! Fourth wall characters will not have posting access, so grab an in-game friend if you wanted to do anything separate from the main log.
► Fourth wall characters will be in the city for at least one week, though they can stay for longer. The party will go on throughout the entire week, thanks to Delight's boundless energy!
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Well...

[Papyrus frowns a bit.]

A few people were hurt. It is never possible to protect everyone. But we must always try! And everyone got better, at least!
aegros: (* I remember the day after my son died.)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-24 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[He clasps Papyrus warmly on the shoulder. His smile is sad, faintly, but it is sincere. To be in a position of power, any position, often requires the hardest of choices. The grimmest of losses.]

Then you have done everything a monster in your position is able to do. You could not have done anything more. And...you did well.

[Papyrus can feel tears forming in his eyesockets yet again. The king has always been so kind, but Papyrus never realized the man knew exactly just what to say. He puts his hand over his ribcage, where a heart would be if one beat within his body, and smiles through the forming tears.]

Your majesty... It means so much to hear you say that. I will continue to do my best to ensure people are kept safe here.
aegros: (* I just wanted everyone to have hope...)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-24 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the duty of a guard, Papyrus. I know I may trust you to perform it without fail.

[Undyne's misgivings, to his knowledge, had not been a question of technical prowess, but rather of how truly and earnestly Papyrus did not wish to hurt anyone. But given the layout of the city, the way things work...he feels this will be much more of an asset than a hindrance here.]

Now. What else have you been doing here? Besides, er...fighting...dragons?
beautyis: (this diamond flawless)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-26 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Perhaps, in a sense, they could be an asset. Many others seem to disagree, opting instead for the route of violence rather than Papyrus' preference for peaceful solutions. Especially when it came to the dragons. He even had a short discussion with the god responsible for that, who disagreed with him the whole time... Very unfortunate.]

Let's see... Avoiding people called zombies, cooking five star meals, making my patrols, and, of course, hosting game night! Not a day of rest has been had since I have arrived here!
aegros: (* And seek the truth.)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-26 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Not a day?

[He sounds appropriately if quietly upset by this admission, regarding the skeleton with no small amount of concern despite his veritable list of commendable achievements.]

You must still remember to take time for yourself, of course. Take a moment to relax, and have a cup of tea...it is very important.
beautyis: (i aint mad ma)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-30 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Papyrus falters a bit. No, see, it's a good thing to always be active! Every second of every minute of every hour of every day! It's good!! Right??]

Well!! I don't believe it would do to allow myself to fall into laziness!

[Yeah, that's what resting... is...]

I must keep myself active to keep myself healthy and productive!
aegros: (* And leave this cursed place.)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-30 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
I am not talking about laziness, my friend.

[He chuckles, though not without affection.]

It is not lazy to allow yourself some time to smell the flowers, or to take a walk. Why, even I do it every so often, just to clear my head.
beautyis: (i woke up like this)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-30 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
But working clears your head, too! Keeping patrols, and setting up puzzles... It keeps the mind and body ready!

[Papyrus is not seeing the difference between resting and laziness? Mr. King Dreemurr sir? Sir??]
aegros: (* We can sit in the living room)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-30 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
If that is what you do to relax, I cannot begrudge you for it.

[He doesn't think he has...ever actually seen Papyrus relaxed. Papyrus does sleep, doesn't he? Oh dear.]

Taking the time to quiet your mind can be very important.
beautyis: (dont get it twisted get it twisted)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-30 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sleeping? Sounds like a waste of time! Though sometimes, Papyrus simply wakes up in his bed, with no recollection of going there.]

Well!! I am sure you know better than I do! Since you are the king, and that must make you very busy!

[But Papyrus is still unsure if "resting" should be scheduled into someone's day. Or week. Or month.]
aegros: (* That's just a fantasy isn't it?)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-30 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you know how it is.

[No, Asgore. He does not, in fact, know how it is.]

Other than the odd report from the Royal Guard or the visiting of one of my subjects, there is...very little to do over in New Home other than water the flowers.
beautyis: (up in this like elevators)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-31 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Really?

[This seems... wrong? Almost like it's shattering Papyrus' worldview. Is being the king such a cushy, do-nothing job!?]

But... you are so important! Surely there is paperwork to file! And subjects to oversee! And puzzles to design!
aegros: (* I just wanted everyone to have hope...)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-31 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Puzzles?

[Out of everything that Papyrus has lobbed at him, that is the only query that seems to take him off guard.]

Well...I did have to keep watch over the human SOULs, and ensure no one went near the Barrier. Not much had been changed in a good long while until Frisk arrived.

[Ruling might have required more work in the past, when he still visited his subjects frequently. But now he...seldom leaves anymore. He cannot find much reason to.]
beautyis: (this diamond flawless)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-31 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well! Yes! Puzzles! I am sure your puzzles are the most challenging! They were made for a king, after all!

[Papyrus nods.]

Yes! Guarding things! Important things! That is exactly the sort of kingly work I would expect!!
aegros: (* I do not want to hurt anyone.)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-31 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I have not made any puzzles, I am afraid. Not in a very long time.

[Being king did not leave him with very much time for such things when he was still...necessary, as both a ruler and a figure, and once Toriel left, there was no real point in exerting his effort in making things for a pair of children that would never get to see them.]
beautyis: (i woke up like this)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-31 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... Well, perhaps you can make some again soon! Maybe even here, in Hadriel! I have been thinking about setting up an obstacle course, of sorts! You could help me out!

[That would certainly get the king moving again! Because the more Asgore says about it, the more Papyrus is starting to think that he needs a little friendly push from yours truly.]
aegros: (* Then I would destroy humanity)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-31 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Could I?

[He's not sure what skills of his may lend themselves to puzzle-making but...he supposes one cannot know unless they try. And he certainly can try.]

There is no harm in trying, I suppose! What sort of thing did you have in mind?
beautyis: (but im the bestest)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-31 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe we can start with something basic, like a maze! Something that people can solve for fun, to take everyone's mind off everything!

[It seems like people could really use something like that. People can't just drink their cares away at the bar all day.]
aegros: (* And seek the truth.)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-31 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
And what would the, er...walls of the maze be made of?

[Not that he isn't behind this idea, because he is. He has nothing that needs doing, no obligations that need to be met - so why not do something engaging, and connect with one of his subjects on a deeper level?]

I suppose we have no shortage of rubble and stone.
beautyis: (this diamond flawless)

[personal profile] beautyis 2016-10-31 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly! There is plenty of stone around to use! It doesn't have to have walls that are any higher than the average human's waist! Doesn't that sound fun?
aegros: (* I do not want to hurt anyone.)

[personal profile] aegros 2016-10-31 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Will they not be able to simply see over it?

[Forgive him Papyrus; he has only witnessed Dr. Alphys's puzzles for any extended length of time, and has some vague conceptualization of what constitutes an effective or "fun" puzzle.]

Should a puzzle not involve challenge?
