Event Log: Fourth Wall, Part One

Who: Everyone in the city + Fourth Wall visitors!
What: Part one of the fourth wall event, hosted by Fear, Confusion, and Delight!
Where: All around the city
When: October 24th-November 1st
Warnings: Visitors from other worlds!

If you're not from around here, you may be wondering what's going on. You've woken up out of the blue in the colosseum, or near a temple, or in one of the numerous other locations in the city. You're somewhere underground and it's dark, cold, and maybe a little unnerving.

Luckily, shortly after your arrival, the road below your feet begins to light up in a gentle, warm glow. The light points you in a set direction and, if you choose to travel that way, will lead you toward the center of the city, where there is a large gathering of others who are lost here like you, people who might know their way around a bit more, and even some of the gods who rule this place.

There are lights strung up on poles throughout the large clearing, casting a comforting glow onto the tables beneath them. The tables are abundant with lots of food that looks simply delicious- though, none of it tastes quite like it should. The tarts taste like green beans, the mashed potatoes like cheesecake, and the chocolate seems oddly reminiscent of steak. In addition, there are decorations artfully placed around the meeting point. If you see them moving, don't worry- that's probably just your imagination.

Also distributed along the tables are shot glasses, filled with a sludgy, yellow substance. If you're brave enough to consume them, they taste strongly of mint and will give you a much needed energy boost, circumventing the need to eat or sleep for a full 24 hours! After that, however, everything hits you all at once, so use them wisely. Some of you may remember these shots from our How Delightful event earlier this year!

In addition to all of the above, there are also party poppers strewn around the area. Each popper can jet out some strange objects- glitter bombs, seashells, plastic dinosaurs, maybe a live lizard or two- so be careful! Feel free to use your discretion on these, but remember to keep it small!
_

Of course, you can always not travel that way. The rest of the city has plenty of places to explore- maybe you'd like to stumble in our Silent Hill zone, have a quick look around the alien orchard, or check out any of the god temples that can inspire their chosen emotion. Be careful not to get lost in the tunnels leading away from the cave- none of them can actually move you above ground, but you may run into a few monsters on the way.

For those of you who have been with us awhile, please bear with the gods while they try to adjust around these new folks! Join in on the festivities if you like, or try to orient as many of the others as you can. Start a community outreach program, start a fight club, introduce your parents to your weird cave girlfriend- nobody's judging!

Well. Some of us might be.
_

Enjoy the fourth wall event at Hadriel! Once you're settled in feel free to explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies.

Fourth wall characters do not enter with phones so they cannot reach the network- however, if you'd like to handwave that they somehow got ahold of Mello's Newcomer guide to avoid the 'where am I/what is this' sort of questions, then feel free!

Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers October 24th-November 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well! Fourth wall characters will not have posting access, so grab an in-game friend if you wanted to do anything separate from the main log.
► Fourth wall characters will be in the city for at least one week, though they can stay for longer. The party will go on throughout the entire week, thanks to Delight's boundless energy!
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[It may not be obvious to him, but The Batter can read tones even if he discards them.]

It's better like that.

[It sounds like script trotted out, the same acceptance that somebody else displayed before. If this was a game to the whole world, then he probably doesn't know. Or care. The latter.]

Is there a difference in this Zone?

[Cutting out the middle anything, finding out if there was to draw this sort of reaction and not just him having a hard time with children.]
determinedest: (* This is your SOUL.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-25 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
There's always a difference. Sometimes you think you know how something's gonna turn out, and you don't.

[They move forward, empty-handed and unarmed. Their tone softens to one of sympathy. Almost pity, if they didn't consider that such a profound insult.]

I was exactly like that, once. I just...killed. Because I felt I had to.

And - I didn't.

[The Batter's stance doesn't shift an inch but the Add-Ons begin to hum with energy. He just allows the words to wash over him as the strings begin to work.

But this is a warning from someone rather than himself. "Keep your distance, kid."]

Why?

[He's not one to book arguments but it's not as if the purifier has had a child tell him these things before. They didn't talk anymore.]
determinedest: (* You reached for your SAVE file...)

SAVE 1.0

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-25 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Why. Frisk narrows their eyes. A SAVE glimmers into existence, brushing their fingertips, just for a moment. If he can sense it, fine. If not, that's fine too. They need to be careful.

They can't get hurt and not come back from this. Not if it means leaving Chara all alone and by themself.]

'Cause the world isn't all terrible.

[They say it simply, opening their hands, palms up.]

You don't need to kill or be killed.

[There is no indication that the purifier notices but that had been the case with the merchant the first time, hadn't it? Perhaps, like Zacharie, it didn't matter.

He digests the child's words before responding.]

I see.

[It's nothing like accepting someone's MERCY. Just basic acknowledgement. Frisk spoke, The Batter answered and the world moved on. And next is a dismissal of the subject at large.]

Where is the exit?
determinedest: (* It's normal for a tree to lose leaves)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-25 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[I see, he says, like it means nothing. Nothing at all. Frisk stares at him for a moment, then shrugs.]

I dunno. There isn't one.

[It's the truth, but also - they'd like to see what he'll do. What he'll say, if they put forth such an option.]

["There isn't one."

The Batter waits for a prompt of movement as his Puppeteer decides. Frisk probably has experience in reading people who don't express much with their face alone. A barely there incline of the head, an adjustment of the hand gripping a weapon. A bit more red because being this close it's likely his eyes can be seen. It's up to them if the eyeblack makes them more intimidating or it's just simply this man's presence alone.

But there's nothing until he finally raises the bat and rests it against his shoulder. No panic. Nothing but pure white.]

I will find one.

[Seems the Determination is strong with this one, hun?]
determinedest: (* It's a HOLE.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-26 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[All right, fine. He wants to be stuck on that singular goal, that's fine. It's not fine, really, but they already know how it's going to end up. Chara couldn't find a way out of Wonderland, and neither could Frisk, and neither will this man find a way out of here.

Frisk crosses their arms.]

What happens if you don't?
oldballgame: (12)

[personal profile] oldballgame 2016-10-26 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I will purify this Zone.

[To say it was impure was an understatement. And usually he exited afterwards so it was made equal in the end. The Puppeteer was fine with that - "Even if we know the end result." - so everything was in agreement.

He turns to leave, unless Frisk has anything else to say. Otherwise, to The Batter, the conversation was over.]
determinedest: (* You hear the melody of pulsating flesh)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-27 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
You mean you're gonna kill everyone?

[Hold up, batter-man, this kid ain't done with you yet. They kick off into a run, twisting around until they're in his way, feet planted firmly onto the ground, expression stern.]

What does it mean, making things..."pure"?
oldballgame: (03)

[personal profile] oldballgame 2016-10-27 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[He stops. The Add-Ons go by, stopping behind Frisk. They aren't humming with energy...for now.]

No. I will purify the land.

[The Batter's tone is even. It doesn't sound like he's hiding a single thing, but it's hard to take anything from someone who's so blank.]

This place will be free of corrupt beings.

[That's all.]
determinedest: (* All you can do is FIGHT.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-27 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
What's "corrupt"?

[Unreadable expressions are their bread and butter. You can't play a player, Batter. Frisk has slid their expression into its default blank state, eyes lidded and mouth a thin, uncompromising line.]

You didn't know that thing back there was corrupt. It might've just needed a friend.
oldballgame: (04)

[personal profile] oldballgame 2016-10-28 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
["Sure, but you're not particularity scary short stuff."

But it's not like they can be heard.]

No. It would have attacked.

[It's probably infuriating that he doesn't express much, hun? But he is speaking from experience - going by The Batter's own world. The specters always attacked. That thing would have too.]
determinedest: (* She feels your fighting spirit...)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
You didn't wait and see if it would. You didn't know.

[They don't bother to keep the accusatory note out of their voice. If it was going to end up attacking him, they'd at least be able to understand why he did what he did. But it wasn't. It wasn't even his FIGHT. It was theirs.]
oldballgame: (02)

[personal profile] oldballgame 2016-10-29 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[He tries thinking about it for a minute.]

You are upset I purified it before you could?

[It's the only reason The Batter can think of. Was this child a purifier as well?]
determinedest: (* You hold onto your hopes.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2016-10-29 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm upset 'cause you didn't have to kill it.

["Purify," he says. Like that makes it any better. It's not. It's killing things. That's all it is, and it doesn't matter what kind of nice-sounding words he pins to it.]
