Event Log: Fadeout

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Fadeout event!
Where: All around the city
When: November 15th-November 25th
Warnings: None!

The morning of November the 15th seems rather normal- that is, if you can avoid the glowing cracks in the fabric of reality tucked away among various streets. Still, they don't really seem to be doing much of anything and you can't quite see through them, so maybe they're decoration? This wouldn't be the first time the gods pulled some weird shit to shake things up around here.

By midafternoon, however, something changes. Cecily, in all her wisdom, decides to attempt to dispel one of these rifts, and the resulting shockwave sends tremors through the city. Tears throughout Hadriel open wider and allow for various demons to burst through and terrorize the various citizens. Demons will be tearing through in all corners of the city, though you can choose to avoid them if you like.

Look out for Pride and Rage demons, who attempt to brute force their way to you and feed off of your anger, steel yourselves against Despair and Fear demons who grow stronger as you give up hope, and definitely cross the street to avoid the Desire demons, who can take either male or female forms and will offer you everything you want if you just let them in.

Demons will either focus on attacking you or tempting you by taking advantage of and feeding off of your basic emotions. Agreeing to let a demon help you and mentally folding to it generally means that the demon will begin to possess you and start calling the shots- often using you as a vessel to hurt others and sow discord. If you happen to have any sort of magical abilities, extended possession can lead toward becoming an abomination after the corruption takes root.

So... you might want to avoid all of that. Luckily, there are some good things happening that can distract you- along with the demons, several nugs and fennec foxes will also pop up around the city, and if you don't want them to die a horrible death to a hungry demon, you might consider adopting them. In addition, you may find a random potion laying around- maybe this can help you fight off those demons, or maybe it'll make every nug in the city love you- or maybe it's secretly a jar of bees. Wouldn't be the first time you guys let bees in jars get a little out of hand.

[11/15 - all you have is your fire]

Trevelyan was the first person she sought out, of course; she may not be the Inquisitor that Morrigan knew, but she bears the mark of the Fade all the same. It is difficult to say who is more surprised that the attempt to close the first rift went this wrong.

A part of her wonders if it could have worked for Inquisitor Cadash, but that seems a pointless thought. Her limited time here has already proven that this place follows few expected rules. Just getting back to the spire in which she has claimed a chamber looks as though it will be a trial: a shimmering tear has opened beside it and a handful of demons roam near. Three of them are fiery rage demons while the other two are terror demons. A dangerous battle for one person, she knows, but she notices movement in the corner of her eye and quickly turns to look.

"Prepared for a fight?"

[middle - eye of the storm]

There is one very small positive note about this. Twice now she has stumbled across potions lying on the ground and narrowly avoided walking over them. Crouching, she scoops up and examines the vials she was fortunate enough to find this time. One is pure blue and faintly glowing, lyrium that will be invaluable the next time she feels her mana diminishing in combat. Another is a health potion and the last is a bottle of swirling scarlet. Her ability to call flame to her fingertips whenever she wants means she has little use for Antivan Fire, but at a time like this someone will find it helpful and under the circumstances she feels willing to share.

Just as she tucks the potions into the pouch slung around her shoulders, she hears someone -- or something -- approach. Electricity crackles in one palm as she turns, ready to aim if necessary, but when no demon meets her gaze she very slowly lets it fade. She glances down at what the stranger holds. The face may be unfamiliar to her, but the dark bluish contents of the vaguely square-shaped bottle are not.

"'Tis a Rock Armor tonic," she offers after a moment. "Drink it and for a brief time physical threats will find it more difficult to harm you."

Sharon holds the potion awkwardly in both hands, gazing at it with a curious, if hesitant, fascination. The woman appears to know what the item is, a Rock Armor tonic, but couldn't it just as easily be a You're Totally Fucked tonic? She doesn't think she's going to drink it, but she slips it into the knapsack at her side just in case.

"Could be useful given the crazy around here." And the whole city is certainly filled with crazy these days. The demons have not been great to their host city, and Sharon cannot wait until Cecily manages to close all the rifts (and until then, demon serial killing).

"How could you tell what it was?"

sorry for the wait! the holiday week's kept me slow

"My thought precisely."

Again she glances between the bottle and the stranger's face, but after a moment she continues. "I have made them myself. That bottle is traditional, making it easy to distinguish from other potions in the heat of battle." One tired eyebrow rises. "I am learning that not everything here is as straightforward as it seems, but so far the potions I have found are as I would have expected in Thedas."

Closing the leather pouch, she rises from her crouch. "These particular tonics smell very earthy, very green, with a hint of spice. If you find that one does not, drink with caution."

absolutely no worries! holidays had me busy too!! c:

Thedas. This was another woman from Cecily's world, though that much should have been obvious by her knowledge of the mysterious bottled potions,"I think I'll drink with caution even if it seems right."

If she even drinks it. The idea of things like potions has never really settled right with her, the thought still kind of ridiculous. Hell, she's still iffy on healing because those things aren't natural, or even exist, in her own world,"But you can make these things? That could be invaluable here."

Truly.
courtintrigue: (I am not opposed)

I hope they were good for you!

In spite of herself, she feels a corner of her mouth crook. "A wise decision, under the circumstances."

To answer the question, she nods. "I was very young when I first learned to mix a healing potion. If this chaos is a regular occurrence here we may require a great many." Her eyebrows waver in concession. "Although I have found that not everything that grows here is familiar to me."

After a moment -- and a quick look around -- it seems a reasonable time for courtesy. She may be reluctant to trust much, but there is no immediate danger lurking behind them. "I am Morrigan."

They were! I hope they were for you as well! <3

There are few people within Hadriel that would call anything Sharon does wise as she's too often doing things that are the very opposite. She's too emotional, too quick to act without thought, but when it comes to consumables, she's learned her lesson; human meat had been snuck into their food supply in the earlier months, resulting in nightmarish creatures and an intense distrust for anything edible.

"It's almost always chaotic, so..." there can be no doubt in her mind that they will need someone with such a skill, but whether she can create potions with the ingredients available is another thing entirely. When there is calm in the city, it's spent recovering.

"Sharon," she's quick to respond,"If you know Cecily, I'm a friend of hers."

And, to Sharon, any friend of Cecily's is a friend of hers.
courtintrigue: (there's a lot I've not forgotten)

They were, thanks! I'm so sorry for the slow. This time of year, man.

[personal profile] courtintrigue 2016-12-09 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
"So it seems," she agrees without hesitation. "A little chaos is not a bad thing, but this is intolerable."

The mention of Cecily lifts her eyebrows in recognition. She nods.

"Trevelyan, yes. It may be more accurate to say she knows me. She was not the Inquisitor I worked with before arriving." How long Sharon has been here is unknown to her, but she assumes it has been long enough that this concept is familiar, no matter how strange it seems. "She has the mark in her hand, though, and is making every effort to assist with the rifts here."

That and the courtesy Cecily has treated her with up until this point have been enough to help them get by. She pauses for a moment.

"I dared to think--" Not hope, precisely; she has never been much of an optimist. "--that when the rifts opened they may point to a way back."
