As has become tradition within the good (well, okay) city of Hadriel, new arrivals will awake on the floor of the half-destroyed colosseum. Confused and disoriented, you may be wondering where you are and what you're doing there. Don't worry! Someone will probably tell you sooner or later, as long as you get out of the colosseum alive.
Oh, right. About that. Along with the poor, innocent, vulnerable new arrivals are a number of other new friends! Well, maybe less 'friends' than 'horrifying monsters', but are you really going to be picky? Wandering the arena are Shambling Mounds. These creatures are large, unattractive piles of vaguely humanoid-shaped vegetation. They hit hard, they can take a lot of damage, and if you're really unlucky they might manage to engulf you with their weird plant bodies. If that happens, you'd better try to get free fast - otherwise they'll just walk off with you stuck inside and kill you later at their leisure.
The Door appears to have cast a wide net for 'plant monsters', and while Shambling Mounds are the only ones that can actually hurt you, it's managed to pull in a number of smaller, less dangerous carnivorous plants. Some of them are even kind of cute! So if you were looking for a pet venus flytrap or a new pitcher plant, you're in luck. Scattered around the colosseum are carnivorous potted plants, just waiting to find a new home.
Make a new plant friend, or get eaten by one, or run screaming! Whatever you choose to do, once you find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers January 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
Arrival
She's surprised at the sight of the shambling mounds, but that young man's movements catch her attention moreso. Possibly because of the bright red and blue of his garments. He's quick, agile, and this is the first time she's ever seen someone stick to a wall without the use of gravity magic. Interesting.
Dealing with monsters isn't a new thing to her. Not at all. She's fought them before, even if this is a new variety of them that she hasn't encountered before. She can ask her questions when the plant monsters have been dealt with.]
It would seem the local flora is disinclined to acquiesce to your request. May I suggest a more forceful approach?

[the one that he snagged his new shirt on. the one that a gust of wind sent his homework into - any idea how 'the rose bush ate my homework' is to sell to an angry english teacher? really hard.]
I wish I had a lawnmower. Or even some pruning shears.

[Her tone is mirthful. It's not every day that she gets to engage in a bit of banter amidst a battle.]
My blade can serve that purpose. It's unsightly, letting hedges get unkempt to this degree.
[Unfortunately, a slice with her sword doesn't do as much damage as expected. These things are more durable than she thought.]
no subject
Don't let it get too close. I think they're carnivorous!
[peter leaps down beside her, crouched close enough that he can provide a quick escape for the both of them if need be.]
I don't have a sword, but I can web 'em up. It might not stop them forever.

[They don't feel like magic, but perhaps there's something about them that makes them undetectable to those who can sense magic. Or perhaps they're something else entirely. The fact that she's making conversation while they're in the middle of a battle against durable plant monsters that may very well be trying to eat them speaks volumes about her level of concern about the threat these things pose.]
There is nothing that I cannot cut. I'll simply need to use more force.
[With her next slice, she uses her magic. If she can cleave through magical armour like it's brittle clay, she can cut through an overgrown rosebush. Sure enough, the slice takes off one of the shambling mounds' limbs.]

[he seems a little sheepish about it. should that be embarrassing? he really hasn't told enough people to know. as for peter...well, a battle seems like as good a time to talk as any.]
But they could probably hold 'em for awhile! [peter jumps from surface to surface, wrapping around another before coming to a stop back where he started.] That sword's amazing! Is that vibranium?
Sorry for the delay!
Mugetsu-ryu was magically forged. Combined with my power...it can slice all sorts of things. I have no idea what vibranium is.
np, same here!
[which means it must be a really special sword. peter wonders if it actually could cut through his webs too, though now might not be the best time to test it out.]
Oh yeah, I'm-I'm Spider-Man.
[a near slip. he's not still not used to masked introductions.]
no subject
[Spider-Man? She supposes that's an accurate enough description, considering the webbing and the way he leaps about. Although given how young his voice sounds, it makes her wonder if Spider-Boy might be more accurate.]
I am called Ikaruga. It's a pleasure, Spider-Man.
