Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-16th
Warnings: Luscious greenery and confused newbies

As has become tradition within the good (well, okay) city of Hadriel, new arrivals will awake on the floor of the half-destroyed colosseum. Confused and disoriented, you may be wondering where you are and what you're doing there. Don't worry! Someone will probably tell you sooner or later, as long as you get out of the colosseum alive.

Oh, right. About that. Along with the poor, innocent, vulnerable new arrivals are a number of other new friends! Well, maybe less 'friends' than 'horrifying monsters', but are you really going to be picky? Wandering the arena are Shambling Mounds. These creatures are large, unattractive piles of vaguely humanoid-shaped vegetation. They hit hard, they can take a lot of damage, and if you're really unlucky they might manage to engulf you with their weird plant bodies. If that happens, you'd better try to get free fast - otherwise they'll just walk off with you stuck inside and kill you later at their leisure.

The Door appears to have cast a wide net for 'plant monsters', and while Shambling Mounds are the only ones that can actually hurt you, it's managed to pull in a number of smaller, less dangerous carnivorous plants. Some of them are even kind of cute! So if you were looking for a pet venus flytrap or a new pitcher plant, you're in luck. Scattered around the colosseum are carnivorous potted plants, just waiting to find a new home.

Make a new plant friend, or get eaten by one, or run screaming! Whatever you choose to do, once you find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[tony would probably be disappointed in her if she did.]

Yeah, I'm kinda glad that there isn't.

[it has nothing to do with the punishment. peter wouldn't want to see aunt may in a place like this. he wouldn't want to see anyone in a place like this (even if it's kinda cool).]

What, why...why would you think that?

[the awkward innocent act isn't entirely an act, but it probably wouldn't work on her anyway. so peter just gives her a smile and shrugs his shoulder.]

Doesn't everybody get into a little trouble when they're a teenager?

[You're not going to fool her, kid. But if Peter wants to go with that, Natasha's more than willing to let him. Plenty of reason to play coy, both here and at home.]

Guess you just strike me as a little more resourceful than most teenagers. You caught Tony's eye, after all.

[Which isn't a lie. It also isn't a reason not to keep an eye on him.]

And most teenagers can find a way to get in at least a little trouble.

I still can't believe that sometimes.

[and this time, he's being genuine about it. he wasn't lying when he said he was a big fan, and not just of captain america. he's looked up to all of them for putting themselves on the line to help the other people, to keep the bad things from becoming a lot worse.

if he'd known ahead of time, he probably would've gone out and bought an autograph book before heading to germany.]

Actually, I try to cause as little as I can. My aunt has enough to worry about. [peter smiles, looking a touch embarrassed.] Unfortunately girls love a bad boy, don't they?

[Natasha smiles slightly at that. She doesn't have a hard time believing he's worried about his aunt.

He's a good kid.

A lot better than Natasha was when she was a teenager. Not that there's any room for comparison.]

Oh, do we? You know a lot about what girls like?

I haven't the slightest idea.

[peter shakes his head, sighing at his own confession.]

Newton's laws of motion, piece of cake. But girls...I've got nothing. [he shrugs.] It just seems like those kinds of guys at my school always have girls flocking to them.

[He's showing his youth there. Though considering some of the grown men Natasha knows, it might be wishful thinking to believe he'll grow out of it.]

The thing about girls is we're into lots of things. Some even Newtonian physics.

[There you go, kid. That's your one piece of romantic advise from the Black Widow.]

But you have bigger things to worry about here.

[at least there's hope for him. maybe.]

Okay. Someone's gotta like me for me, right?

[peter smiles up at her. he can't change that - sometimes he wishes he could, and technically now he has the power to, but any serious consideration of it never happens.]

Oh yeah, definitely. Have you hear of the guard here? They help keep the city safe, so I'm going to join that.

Let's say it's a high statistical probability.

[That's about as good as he's going to get out of Natasha.]

I've heard about them. I've been a curious to look into their operations more.

What have people told you exactly?

That we might be here for awhile. That there are new monsters all the time, and the caves are dangerous so we have to maintain a perimeter.

[peter looks at her to see if he can glean from her expression what she thinks about any of that. he can't.]

We do have to take care of ourselves, right? And the people who can't.

You're right about that. [He seems like a good kid, and not wrong. Natasha's expression doesn't give away much, but there's no disapproval in it, or in the tone of her voice.] It's just a matter of figuring out the best way to do it.

Right!

[there's a sigh of relief. he's glad she agrees, feeling better with her approval. but it also begs the next question.]

Any idea what that would be?

Still working on it. [Saying it that way feels a little like admitting a failure on her part; though she's not inclined to admit it, she's hesitating to align herself with another organization. Hasn't always ended so well for her.

That's different from not needing allies, though, and it doesn't mean she doesn't trust Peter.] I wouldn't say it's not worth looking into, if you know what you're going to offer.

I've only got one thing to offer, unless someone needs a motherboard replaced. And it's not like there's any internet anyway. I'm going into cat video withdrawal.

[there's something else on his mind too.]

Hey, I wanted to ask you. My secret...the secret identity thing.

About that, huh. What's on your mind?

[Tony hadn't been entirely forthcoming about what he knew about Peter's personal life. Natasha didn't pry.]

Is it stupid to keep it up here?

[peter holds up his hands, like he's balancing his options.]

I don't know what to do. I mean, there's millions of people in New York, and one of them is my aunt. But there's a lot less people here, and the whole situation's different.

[She isn't sure what she expected, but it wasn't that. Makes sense, though.]

Good question.

[Which is a nice way of saying she doesn't have a simple answer.]

That depends on you. It really is different here. It'll be harder to keep your secret in the long run, and it's worth thinking about if you'd rather they find out from you or from someone else.

[sorry nat, you're the only person he has to talk to about this.

you're probably the only person he has to talk about a lot of things. where do babies come from? come on, he's not that young.]

The suit's pretty cool though, right? I'm keeping the suit.

[he'll figure the rest of it out with a little thought, but the uniform is awesome and hek nows it.]

It is pretty cool. [She'll indulge him on that. No denying Tony makes a cool suit.

And it's a weird situation. She doesn't have if he needs support. She just doesn't have the answer for this one.]

I'm sure people will agree, if you decide to show them.
