Intro Log: Eat Your Veggies

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-16th
Warnings: Luscious greenery and confused newbies

As has become tradition within the good (well, okay) city of Hadriel, new arrivals will awake on the floor of the half-destroyed colosseum. Confused and disoriented, you may be wondering where you are and what you're doing there. Don't worry! Someone will probably tell you sooner or later, as long as you get out of the colosseum alive.

Oh, right. About that. Along with the poor, innocent, vulnerable new arrivals are a number of other new friends! Well, maybe less 'friends' than 'horrifying monsters', but are you really going to be picky? Wandering the arena are Shambling Mounds. These creatures are large, unattractive piles of vaguely humanoid-shaped vegetation. They hit hard, they can take a lot of damage, and if you're really unlucky they might manage to engulf you with their weird plant bodies. If that happens, you'd better try to get free fast - otherwise they'll just walk off with you stuck inside and kill you later at their leisure.

The Door appears to have cast a wide net for 'plant monsters', and while Shambling Mounds are the only ones that can actually hurt you, it's managed to pull in a number of smaller, less dangerous carnivorous plants. Some of them are even kind of cute! So if you were looking for a pet venus flytrap or a new pitcher plant, you're in luck. Scattered around the colosseum are carnivorous potted plants, just waiting to find a new home.

Make a new plant friend, or get eaten by one, or run screaming! Whatever you choose to do, once you find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers January 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Ikaruga's used to unusual things. As a rule, those in mage guilds tend to encounter unusual circumstances more often than the average citizen. She's the leader of the small special guerilla squad within her own guild. She's not traumatized by the fighting she had to do upon arrival in the slightest.

It was the phone, of all things, that took her longer to figure out. Communication devices in her world look and work differently than it. She can only imagine how much more difficult it would have been for someone who hailed from a place that didn't have any sort of means of portable communication at all.

"Aside from the occasional difficulty, how is day to day life here?" It's been an uncomfortable realization, but she's had to accept that she won't be able to get out of here so easily. She'll be here long enough that it would be worthwhile finding out what the community is like.

Ahsoka hums in thought, trying to decide how to describe it. It's not like she's really used to life that isn't here or keeping to herself as a rebel informant. It's been so long since she just settled in to part of a community of people who chose to be there. How does this even compare?

"I guess it's like any village where most people keep to themselves," she finally decides on. "We have the City Guard to keep everyone safe from things that wander in from the tunnels, we have stores and a clinic and a bar, for whatever that's worth. Everyone finds their own ways to occupy their time."

"Many of the books in the library are in a language I've never encountered before. Has any effort been made to translate them?"

She's vaguely curious about the previous residents. Most of the furniture wasn't quite fit for humans. Close enough to be livable, but it doesn't appear to have been designed with human body shapes in mind.

"If there has been, it's not gotten anywhere. There's lots of different languages that some of us are familiar with, but the languages represented in the library don't consistently look like anything," Ahsoka says, raising and dropping one shoulder in a shrug. "Whoever was here before wasn't from anywhere that any of us are, as far as I can tell."

"It does make me wonder if the books contain anything about the previous residents' experiences here."

Or any research surrounding the Door and how to escape it, is the thought that goes unsaid. She's not so ready to accept captivity, even if she's accepted she'll have to bide her time and make allies in the meantime.

"Well, if they do, no one bothered to include enough diagrams for us to make sense of it. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of libraries, so I haven't looked at every book, but I trust that if there was something to be learned there, we would have found it already."

There are so many different types of people here, with all sorts of different specialties. Ahsoka knows they're not a perfect collection of people, but she has to have a little faith in them.
