Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

You can't blame a girl for being cautious. [ He seems settled and, with his attention on the ground, she loosens somewhat, hand falling away from the dagger. The Castiel she remembers speaking to never seemed to have poor intentions, though the world has a habit of turning them upside down and inside out when the gods are feeling particularly needy.

Which is often a monthly thing. ]

You can't trust people here, even when you know them. It's a real fucking problem.

No. I don't blame you for your caution. I admire it.

[ He finally raises his eyes back toward her. Soft, soulful eyes, nevermind that there isn't a soul inside to shine through them. His lips pull up ever so slightly, in a sort of grim, sad-but-hopeful smile. ]

First our own demons, then the actual demons, then more demons, and now this. Doubles of ourselves.

[ He grimaced. ] You can rest assured. If there was another one of me, I would know it. Angels cannot hide their presence from each other, certainly not in a place as...cramped as this.

[ Admire it, huh? There's nothing like a compliment to help ease her towards him. She sighs. He's right. Things have been so insane that it's just... It's difficult to process and hard not to feel constantly on edge. It's just that at any moment, any single moment, their whole world can be changed and twisted and the things inside of them can be, too. ]

Lucky you, then. [ She swallows before she says it. It'd be nice if everyone could tell if they had a double and where it might be hiding. ] Can you tell if any of the other angels here have doubles?

[ Are there any other angels here even? ]

Any of the other angels?

[ He glances up, brows twisting ever so slightly. If there were other angels here, he hasn't met them, which means he isn't ticked onto their wavelength.

That's an irritating question to have been asked, it makes him suspicious. It makes him feel like he doesn't have all the cards, doesn't know what he's supposed to know. He resists baring his teeth. ]

Do you know of other angels here, or people who claim to be angels?

Lucifer used to be here. [ It's a bit pointless to point out as the other man has been gone for some time, plus she's fairly certain that Castiel had been aware of him before he'd gone. She gives him a shake of her head. ] Other than you, I haven't met anyone claiming to be an angel. Though, if I were an angel, I certainly wouldn't go around telling people.

[ So, maybe there are angels on the down low somewhere in Hadriel. ]

Yes, Lucifer. I still use his perch, now and again.

[ He cocks his head toward her. ]

There's really no need to worry. I think I would know--or I believe, at least, that if there were other angels here they would reveal themselves to the one angel who did not hide his presence.

[ Castiel shrugged slightly, and leaned back on the bench. He looked pensieve. ]

These emotions don't lead anywhere. And the gods... What benefit is there to "Confusion" being made stronger? Stronger for what purpose?

[ The question leaves a frown on her lips and a wrinkle between her brows; she thought everyone knew the purpose for these shitty events, but, then again, not everyone pays attention to every detail the gods say publicly on the network. ]

Whatever killed them is going to come back one day. Right now they're hiding, trying to get as much power as they can before it comes back to finish what it started. [ She pauses, stepping towards him, motioning at the bench, quietly asking if she can sit. ]

I think, ultimately, the goal of all the gods is the same: be powerful enough to survive.

[ There. That's a little better, isn't it? He nods and inches a little further along the bench. She's coming to sit beside him, which is almost funny after her initial caution. This face, this angel, he just makes people feel so at ease. It's amazing, really, that there's really a warrior in here. A creature who could rip reality apart if he chose to. He just doesn't, and it's really pathetic.

Like these gods, apparently. ]

I hadn't heard that.

[ But he shakes his head anyway. ]

I don't have much faith in them, if that is the case. They can't prevent people from burning down their temples, or even Create a swarm of bees. They're not exceptional in any way.

[ He makes room for her and she takes a seat, keeping some distance between them, more out of her own comfort than for his. His statement almost makes her smile, because for all that they seem completely unexceptional, the gods have them all under their thumbs. ]

And yet they have all the power over us.
