Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

[Least she was, before everything went straight to hell. He's puttin' things together, bit by bit. Not that he can make any passing judgments as to the content of Ahsoka's character when he ain't technically met her, but Alphys likes people who're...

Not people who use cold tones of voice, he's pretty sure. Unless this 'Ahsoka' chick is just like that with people she don't know?

He needs to think, and he's too tired for this. He squints one eyesocket at her, blearily.]

Patrolling. [ which makes sense. she's on the city guard, after all. ]

Things have gone sideways again, right on schedule, so there's the usual need to take responsibility for keeping the people here safe. Most of you can't do it yourselves, so someone has to.

[All righty. Bit harsh, but...she's gotta point there. Not all of 'em are geared for combat. And Sans, right now, what with the way he might as well be a sweat-stained smear on the ground, is a pretty shining example.]

Y'mean with the...the whole...evil twin thing?

Exactly. There are some morally questionable people here on a good day. If they've got an evil twin, or particularly powerful individuals do, we might all be in trouble.

And how'm I supposed to trust that I'm talkin' to the real you, right now?

[That sure is a way to cut to the chase. But he's tired - and at this rate, he'd rather just skip on past the mind games and get right to the skinny of it.]

If the other doubles floating around are any indication, I don't think mine would still be doing her patrols. [ like. unless that was a good way to fuck with her original's life and reputation, somehow. ] Evil and guarding the civilians of the city don't really go hand in hand, do they?

[Unless she's smart enough to subvert expectations. Some people's doubles, unlike Sans's own, have a predisposition to a little thing called "subtlety."]

I haven't. Do you think everyone has one?

That'd be my guess.

[Either way, he ain't about to let down his guard around...anyone, if he can help it. That sounds exhausting. Too bad it's also probably necessary if he wants to survive this event.]

Confusion's doing, most like.

Probably. [ she sighs, but her jaw is visibly tense. ] If only the decent gods could keep each other in check. This place wouldn't have to feel like anarchy all the time, with a bit more order and respect going around.

You, uh...fond of that kinda thing?

[Order and respect. Those're two pretty indicative words - mostly 'cause he's heard 'em coming from a genocidal officer in charge of some kinda superweapon.]

I've lived my whole life surrounded by war. Do you know how much suffering could be prevented just by keeping hot headed idiots from making decisions? Just by ensuring everyone had a base respect for one another?

[ a lot. just like... so many. and considering how she knows she's about as even and fair as any sentient being could be, the fact that bad guys and jerk gods are still running things pisses her off. ]
