Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

► This log covers January 16th-January 25th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If your evil clone happens to take you out, please let us know here, and remember that you will not revive until the event is over.

[If there was more time, maybe Will could have done that. Jill seemed to listen to him a little when he was tied up by his double. There was no time now, though.

Jill looked down at Will as he tried to appeal logically to her.]

One thing at a time. I just know that she's supposed to be gone.

[Jill can't help it. It's this place that brought her to life with only one objective. Destroy Jill Valentine.]

You have five seconds.

[Her double was serious. Even if Will tried to convince her that the woman wouldn't shoot him, Jill knew better than that. She could see it, and she could see no other way out of this than... Jill lifted the gun to her head and set it to her temple. Her hand was shaking a little; her eyes were a mixture of fear and determination. He wasn't going to die because of her.]

Look away, Will.

Put the gun down, Jill. You don't have to do this... None of this needs to happen!

[ Was this really happening? No, no it couldn't be! He was dreaming, it was all the deranged hallucinations of an ill mind. It had to be! Will closed his eyes tightly for a moemnt before opening them again with hopes that he'd see his room, empty of Jill's.

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! He thought as he screwed his eyes shut once more. Opening them and closing them frantically as he watched Jill standing there with her gun pointed to her own head.

He had almost unraveled the knots that bound him by this time too, pulling and tugging, giving himself rope burns in the process but that didn't matter. ]

[If Jill could see another way out of this, she'd take it. But she'd never manage to kill the other woman without risking Will's life. He'd probably be dead before she had the chance to aim in Jill's direction. And the countdown didn't stop.]

Five... four...

It's okay, Will.

Three... two...

I'll come back. People come back, right?

One.

[She hopes what they say is true. Jill can only hope she'll come back. There's an extra second, a delay, as Jill gauges the look in other woman's eyes. Watches as her finger begins to squeeze the trigger. And then the gun goes off.]

*BANG!*

[Jill is down, her body laying on its side turned away from Will. Blond hair is quickly drenched dark with blood that pools on the concrete beneath her head. Her gun resting nearby.

Jill looks at the woman's body, a smile creeping over her face. Good. It's done.]

[ Will had opened his eyes, with hopes that this time he'd see nothing, no Jill or her double, that he'd be back in his own room and away from whatever madness was going on. As it happned... Will, unfortunately, opened his eyes at the very moment Jill pulled the trigger. Her words he'd come fast and unclear, he couldn't understand the logic behind it. Why would Jill be so willing, to so easily take her life and in return for his? what good was Will's life if it meant costing someone so precious as Jill, hers? ]

... Noooo!! NO!

[ The word came out with such force, such volume as Will watched in utter disbelief. The spray of warm, slick fluid splattered his face as his chair finally fell to the side. All of his pushing and struggling to free himself finally resulted in him toppling himself over. And there he lay. On his side still seated in the chair, the vermillion of her blood seeping out to touch his face. Warm but growing cooler by the second. ]

Jill! JILL!!! No, no, no, please! Please no! Jill!!

[ Thrashing around, feeling the wooden armrests break as did the legs, Will managing to pull his arms forwards, snapping the remaining wood between them. Though they were still bound they were at least in front of him now. Moving to stand, his feet slipping and skidding him back down to his knees as he treads in the ever growing puddle of her blood.

Frustrated and in a panic, Will gnawed at his bonds, snapping them in the middle. Throwing himself over her body as he pulled her onto her back. Scooping up handfuls of blood from shaking hands, as he tried to press and apply presure to both sides of her temple. The entry and very messy exit wounds. ]

No... Jill, please... No, you can't die! No! ... no

[ Panting, sobbing heavy, fast tears that blurred his vision. Part of him knew it was futile, but still, he tore her over vest open and started to pound his fist against her sternum before frantically starting compressions. Tipping her limp head back to breath into her mouth as all the while blood started to slow its flow from her wounds.

Sitting upright where he straddled over her, throwing his head back and screaming, bereaved and overwhelmed with the sadness that might have well shot straight through his chest like the bullet that took Jill from him. The screaming broke as his crying grew harder and deepened. Will wobbled as he came to a stand, scooping Jill's limp body, cold and bereft of life up in his arms. His eyes were fixed, staring forwards and Will began to walk. Despite his own wounds, despite how exhausted he was, he carried Jill's corpse out into the streets almost falling with every other step.

He didn't know where he was going, he couldn't think. Each step he felt her arms sway long and loose like wet clothes on a line and he cried. Oh, how he cried. His legs finally buckled under him, almost dropping her body as he came crashing down to his knees in defeat. Doubling over, pressing his face into her stomach and sobbing loudly, inconsolably.

Empathy was a bitch. Will might as well have died alongside her for all that it hurt him too. ]
