Event Log: Dead Ringers

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Dead Ringers event!
Where: All around the city
When: January 16th-January 25th
Warnings: Evil doubles, so we can assume manipulation, violence, murder, and maybe some nasty words

Everything seems normal on the morning of the 16th - actually, everything seems normal about the city for the entirety of this event. Nothing is strange, nothing is obviously wrong. Well, except that the population has mysteriously doubled, and the new residents each look exactly like one of the old residents. So weird! Definitely not ominous at all.

At least until your new double gets down to business. After all, their only goal is to ruin your life, and that can take any form. Smashing your favorite coffee cup? Telling your worst enemy they're right? Kissing someone else in front of your girlfriend? Brutally murdering you and then hiding your body in a closet so they can more effectively destroy your life? The possibilities are truly endless, and the only way to protect yourself is to kill your double first. They're not really open to negotiation, after all - but they sure might pretend to be in order to trick you.

So watch your back, and try to make sure that really is your best friend and not an evil clone masquerading as them. Boy, that would be awkward. If you can stick it out until January 25th, good for you! But if you didn't manage to and your double survives until the end - well, just as a final 'fuck you', there's a chance you'll come back to life and remember every awful thing your double did. Hey, at least that'll make it easier to fix, right?

[The rational part of her brain is telling her to run. Just, to turn around, get right out of there, try and scrub this whole experience from her mind. But... this double could be dangerous. If she doesn't do what she says, she could get attacked. Or... or who knows what.

After all, Alphys knows a lot of things about looking innocent when you might not be so harmless.

So she stops, tries to put on a smile.]

H-Hah, yeah, uhm... o-of course. I mean, I'm not, uh, trying to insult you or a-anything!

[ Predators do tend to strike when prey make an escape, don't they? Hmm. And this version of Rose is definitely a predator in her demeanor. ]

I'd hope not. We're more alike than you know, really.

[ And as its said, her human glamour drops. Blond hair is replaced with white and a tail with ears to match are added. Amber eyes now stare down Alphys instead of the warm brown she's probably used to.

Rose is a monster. Maybe not their breed of a monster but one all the same. She's also a monster in the darker connotations of the word. The woman smiles in return - a line of unsettling fangs - and tilts her head. ]

[Her eyes go wide as Rose changes; interestingly enough, though, Alphys is... almost more comfortable with this development. She's been taught to fear humans her entire life. The only human she ever met killed her best friend. And... well, to be fair, she watches a lot of anime with people with cat ears.

She silently damns her own inner monologue for making this not as scary as it probably should be. But also, oh man she looks cool.]

Oh.

[What a response. Round of applause for Alphys, right there. She tries to think of something appropriate to say in response, and... comes up entirely empty.]

You, uhm... l-look pretty cool, actually.

[ ... what. ]

What?

[ It's clear that this wasn't the reaction she had hoped to elicit. Kind of the opposite, actually. Confusion is written plainly on her features at the response, posture loosening and ears drooping back a bit. ]

Well, this is... unexpected. This makes you admire her more?

[ Hm. She can still turn this around somehow, she's sure. ]

[So sorry double Rosie. Alphys is like, at least 50% a furry.]

Well, it... w-well, in my world, humans have only ever, uh, killed us. So... it's actually uh, kind of nice? To know uh, she's not.

... I'm sorry, uh. This probably isn't what you wanted.

[She's now becoming aware of this. Whoops.]

[ No, it's not. But Rose - and her double - are nothing if not persistent. The woman's become a little less menacing and instead taken on a more contemplative nature. ]

Rose was enslaved by humans. Her friends killed by them, too.

Would it disappoint you to know she still believes in them? That, despite everything, she sometimes still wants to be one?

[Mmmmmm this isn't the best thing to trip Alphys up with either.]

I mean, I've always, uhm... a-admired the stuff humans make, and, I mean... it's b-better for her to try and be kind, right? To, uhm, forgive?

[She would understand revenge; if Rosie had wanted to get back. But... she's always wanted to be strong enough to forgive humans, too. For the way Asgore always looked so sad when he talked about them... she feels like he'd be much happier being their friend than he would going to war.]
