What: The intro log for February
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: February 10th-16th
Warnings: Shark week
Once more, new arrivals will wake up on the ground level of the ruined colosseum. There isn't anything particularly comforting about it, either- everything is a bit cold and impersonal and there is, of course, the fact that nobody remembers just how they managed to wind up here in the first place. That can all be explained in time, though- until then, you've got quite a bit on your plate already.
And why is that? Well, that may be because you're also surrounded by sharks.
Yes, on land.
It doesn't mean that they're totally incapacitated though- you still have your two headed sharks, your giant sharks, and your sharktopus that are more than capable of flopping in your general direction before taking you into a death roll. And don't forget the (far more dangerous) sand sharks, capable of swimming through the ground as if it were water itself. You might want to start to finda life rafthigh ground soon.
But hey, if you manage to get away from the sharks, feel free to help yourself to one of the odd food shaped blankets. These cozy comforters are perfect for your new bed, but they tend to carry a faint scent of the food they represent, so be sure not to sleep on an empty stomach!
Listen to the Jaws theme, grab a harpoon, and get cozy! On your way to safety, make sure to explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers February 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[The little creature catches her eye, and she's hard pressed to look away from it. It looks nothing like anything from home. Her distraction means it takes a minute to properly process Jack's words- but when she does, she can't help but smirk.]
I'm not a huge fan of seafood. But I feel like I could make an exception.
[There's a pause, where she seems to debate with herself and rubs at her nose. ...Then another click, as the blade is tucked away.]

[jack stands, reaching back to unzip his backpack just enough for the thing to crawl in and then peek out at her. maybe he shouldn't be encouraging her to go after the monsters, but they are using the buddy system here. jack has no intention of seeing her in any real danger.
but she is here now. maybe it's too late for that.]
And you won't find much to eat in there anyway. Trust me, Fluffy picked it clean earlier.
[fluffy. because bad jokes make good names, apparently.]
no subject
Dude! Leave a little for me next time?
[Ellie slips the knife away and hoists herself out. She's still keeping her distance, but it's much less of a 'you're a threat' thing and much more of a 'I don't know you yet' thing now.]
But, uh. Sure. Definitely sounds more fun than clawing through more goop, anyway.
[And she won't lie, the sound of some fresh meat right now... Cooked fish... Her stomach grumbles loudly.]

You'll have better luck in the stores. The selection is random, but just about everything is usable. There's an orchard that way. [he points.] Some of the fruit's a little confused, but it's been there for months and no one's bitten into any poison apples.
[he pauses, considering her for a moment.]
Do you know how to use your knife?
no subject
Naw, I just carry it around because it looks pretty.
[Ellie lifts an eyebrow at Jack sardonically, but there's good humor in her voice.]
How come?
no subject
You're probably going to need it. [there's a line between scaring her and preparing her, and jack does hope that he's staying on the right side of it.] In fact, we should stop by the armory so you can pick up a few more. I don't know what kind of place you're from, but this one likes to keep us on our toes.
no subject
Wait, this place has an armory? That's cool and all, but I have nothing to trade.
no subject
[he doesn't want ellie to think that that actually happens.
well, there as that one time, or so he heard.]
It doesn't have guns, unfortunately.
no subject
[The grin drops from her face when she hears that last part, though.]
Auuugh. Man. Guess it couldn't be that easy, huh.
no subject
[jack feels like he already knows the answer to that, which leads him to his second question.]
What sort of place do you come from?
no subject
Sure.
[Actually, there's a handgun in her backpack, but she's also very proficient with a rifle.]
Not a good one. Where I come from, a disease fucked everyone's shit up and the military took over. These like, fungus spores made people act crazy- turned them into violent, bitey monsters.
[She lapses into silence, eyes glazed over.]
no subject
[and hopefully the horrors of this world aren't as bad as the horrors of the one she just came from. jack's seen violent, bitey monsters since he's been here, but it didn't last. sometimes there's even a good day. jack tips his head and tries to catch her eye.]
I'll bet you my two cans of crushed pineapple that you even like it here.
no subject
[It's as much a reassurance as it is upsetting. Joel is still there.
Ellie's not sure why, but meeting his eye kinda makes her smile. Jack seems nice.]
You know, I'll hold you to that.
