INTRO LOG: WELCOME TO THE BATCAVE

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-15th
Warnings: Bats, but not Batman. Weird arts and crafts. Confused newbies.

You awaken on the hard-packed sandy floor of the colosseum. As you blink the sleep from your eyes and begin to try to get your bearings, you might hear the gentle, soothing sound of wind chimes tinkling through the air. It's a peaceful sound, a pleasant sound. As you look around, you'll find tall stands with curved hooks at the top here and there throughout the arena, each supporting a different handmade wind chime.

You could stay and enjoy the sounds, even if what they're coming from is a bit less than aesthetically pleasing. Or you could pause for a moment and wonder where the wind that's sounding the chimes is coming from, considering you're in a cave. There are breezes in Hadriel now and again, but what's causing this wind is something else entirely. Spend too long out in the open and you'll find out what.

Perching atop the broken walls of the colosseum, hidden in crevices and shadows, are a number of Ahools. These giant bats can have wingspans as big as 12 feet, and they're certainly strong enough to lift smaller and lighter people off their feet entirely, carrying them away to devour at their leisure. Don't think you can hide - their echolocation will find you as easily as a bat finds a moth in the black of night.

If you manage to escape the Ahools and get your bearings, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies until your belly is as full as that giant bat's was supposed to be. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers January 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well!
► All characters now arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[to be entirely honest, lloyd's not quite sure what to make of the windchimes yet. those are new. even if the person that made them could use a few tips about craftsmanship, tips lloyd is more than willing to give them even!

there's a slight chance sunny is just asking about the colloseum itself, because where lloyd comes from at least they aren't exactly a common staple but. considering the situation, lloyd is willing to bet the man is asking him about waking up here in general.
]

Ah yeah. [lloyd makes a face and rubs the back of his neck, looking almost apologetic.] People are sort of getting dragged here from their home as part of some argument between some people calling themselves gods? [he can't help but be dubious about those sorts of titles anymore.]

[Sunny looks a bit dubious, too. Men might behave as if they were gods sometimes, but they would never call themselves that. Whichever gods you wanted to name, they held no weight in the badlands.

There's a minute of silence as he considers how to respond. In the end, he interprets the explanation in the only way he's ever understood the world:]

So there's a war going on.

Is there? [lloyd considers the point seriously for a moment, and what he’s seen of this place so far and its so called “gods”.] There hasn’t really been any actual fighting aside from us having to protect ourselves from monsters and stuff.

But I guess a war would explain what happened to this place before we were brought here. And why Hope needs to bring the other gods back to life now. [for a given value of the word “explain” anyway.]

[Monsters and stuff. Sunny raises an eyebrow at that, but he doesn't ask. It's true that from what he can see, it looks like it's been gutted and then decorated in desperation. And why is it underground? Is the ground above unlivable?

Maybe that's not so unbelievable. Weren't there stories of people building underground cities for themselves a long time ago, hiding from some destructive force they were afraid of? He's heard, anyway. He's never given much thought to it til now.]

And you think that's possible? Bringing someone back to life?
fervence: (if we only had a way)

[lloyd gives the question genuine consideration, staring off faintly into the distance as he replies.] I think... that a lot of things are possible, even stuff you normally wouldn't consider to be. And Hope seems to think it's possible which I guess is half the battle.

[he frowns and ducks his head, scuffing the dirt around his feet and adds:] And Mithos could bring Martel back in my world but it meant destroying a lot of stuff and hurting a lot of people.

So maybe it's not about whether or not they can but if it's worth the price?

[Sunny still doesn't know if he buys it, though he can admit there's not a lot he rules out, either. The world's always created forces to balance itself out. They might be made by man, they might not, but they're there.

And he understands a thing or two about paying a steep price.]

Are you saying we're the price? Is that why we're here?
fervence: (without answers)

Yeah, something like that. [lloyd nods his head once, smiling ever so faintly.]

I think they said something about our emotions helping? Which wouldn't be so bad if they just left us alone and let stuff grow on its own naturally, but we have these monsters and sometimes really weird stuff happens around town and stuff too.

[he sighs a little, in the manner of one who has come to view villainous actions as the expected norm, regrettably.] I wish people would ask for help instead of just taking.
