Good morning, new arrivals! Or, well, it's probably morning. The sun is up, anyway. Okay - not the sun, but that ball of light at the top of the cave that functions as the sun, anyway. Whatever. The point is you've woken to find yourself on the floor of Hadriel's colosseum. You may be wondering where you are and what you're doing here, but what you should be wondering is how fast you need to run to get away from a three-headed snake.
You're not the only one who just woke up. Also to be found in the arena, angry and confused, are Runespoors - large three-headed snakes. Only one of the heads is venomous, but all of them are perfectly willing to take a bite out of you if you get too close - or if you annoy it. If you're lucky, an attacking Runespoor may distract itself via infighting between the three heads, giving you time to run. If not, well, let's just hope you can fight off all three heads at once!
But that's not the only thing you might find. Also scattered around the colosseum floor are what look like tasty snacks. Popsicles, cheese, even toast! Unfortunately, if you get hungry and take a bite, you will quickly discover that each and every one of these is actually soap. So that's great. Maybe the Door thinks everyone needs to shower more? You can also find a few that actually look like soap, and if you're really lucky, you might stumble across the rare and coveted 'pile of baby hands' soap.
With luck, you didn't get eaten by a snake or accidentally eat a piece of soap. Once you find your way out of the colosseum there's plenty of other distractions. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers March 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

That forethought is reflected in her cavalier response, though one could just as well assume that she is not the type to startle easy. Perhaps she is merely more aware of her surroundings than others would be.
Perhaps... Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.
"I see," she says, calm eminent in her accent. She reaches up towards the branch, her size offering an advantage when the tips of her gloved fingers nearly touch the feathered wings.
"Run, quick!" The bird is gone in an instant, its mimicked cry echoing deeper into the groves. "Run, quick! Run, quick!"
And then it fades away, and away, and away...
Her long arm drops back to her side. She frowns. "Unfortunate. I doubt that it has any idea just how far from home it is, as every other foreigner here."

They've adapted to the city well, and don't seem at all bothered by the confinement. Adam supposes that would be the benefit of being an animal - the lack of questions, the lack of a constant need for explanation. The lack of homesickness, too.
He looks at her. She's a stranger, which isn't a surprise at all, not when there's a new crop of them every few weeks. She's tall, certainly, and probably not human, but that's also not outside of the norm here. Adam resorts to politeness, because that's how he works.
"I'm Adam Parrish. Did you just get here?"

"Ravine," she says firstly. "That is what I'm called now. And I am indeed new, fresh off the grill."
Perhaps using food metaphors after seeing snakes trying to eat people is a little insensitive.

Adam always had a certain tendency toward black humor, and after all his months here that's just gotten more pronounced. He's not going to take any offense - after all, he wasn't chased by snakes.
"You seem to be taking it pretty well, all things considered."
She's not freaking out, she's not demanding answers or yelling at the gods or drowning herself at the bar or any of the other countless ways newcomers find to cope. It's nice to see, really. There are enough unstable people here already.

Nothing, however, is more intriguing to her than that of its unwilling residents. Some who have made their roots here more than others.
No. She is not freaking out. Something else could be said about her stability, though.
"I have dabbled in stranger realms than this. Compared to some, this is an oasis."
Which is to be expected. Life does not grow on the side of the dead.

He's curious, of course. Being stuck here means that the only way to get a glimpse of anything else is to talk to the other prisoners, which Adam is not always particularly good at. But she seems reasonably friendly, if a little strange - and who here isn't strange? It's practically a requirement.

"Actually, it was pretty boring for a while, so I had to make my own entertainment. That's not a problem for me."
Ravine rather likes the alone time while humanity took a glorified nap for a few centuries. She did purposefully leave out the more interesting bits she could have shared, though.

"But we also don't have things like television or readable books, so that skill might come in handy eventually."
His tone is a bit wry. Really, he doesn't know if she even has television where she's from.
no subject
"People managed just fine before the times of television and when literacy was less common. You just have to find your calling."
Speaking as someone who has been around for as long as those times she just spoke of...

If someone really wants to, they can spend all day in Hadriel sleeping and shitposting. That's not Adam's style, but it's an option.
"There's stuff to do if you bother to look, though."
