Event Log: Oh Shit (B side)

Who: All the characters in Group B
What: The event log for Group B
Where: The right side of the city
When: The evening of March 28th-April 9th
Warnings: You're safe! But you're starving. Soon enough you'll be attacked by monsters, which will probably change both of those.

March 28th brings many changes into the city. First of all, that loving, dopey feeling? Gone. But you don't have too much time to mourn your affectionate side because, in addition to the humiliation of being voted in last, Love is also getting their personalized event overshadowed by the first major citywide disaster of Hadriel.

On the evening of the 28th, the city splits itself into two for some reason, isolating the left and right halves of the city. In the right half, if anyone tried to figure out where the other half of the city went, they'd find themselves staring down a massive rock wall- which is unfortunate, because this is the unlucky side without Hope. That means that after the split occurs, the lights flicker and die, the network takes far longer to get up, and what few stores there are will no longer be stocked with food.

The first two are solved within a couple of extra hours- dim lighting and profoundly glitchy network access will be created, particularly when attempting to contact anyone on the other side of the city. As if that isn't enough, without Hope there is no new food being stocked in the stores at first, and what is there isn't exactly being kept fresh and will run out within just a couple of days. Eventually, Love will try to substitute a replacement, but the bulk necessary to actually effectively feed everyone just isn't there, so enjoy your prolonged starvation!

That seems to be the main thing to worry about it until March 30th when the monsters begin to push and prod at Confusion's ineffective barriers and break through into the main city, where delicious meals (read: you) await them. The flow of monsters from the bestiary into the caves will seem almost unending, as we're stocked up on 18 months worth of them (and any/all offspring they may have created during that time).

Try to hunt some of them if you can, but watch out for the poisonous ones! It won't take long for hunger and thirst to start to settle in, so you might want to act fast. Additionally, since Hope is not present, there will be no revivals until the end of the event. You can deal with a minor permadeath setting, right?

► This log covers March 28th-April 9th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you die of starvation or animal mauling, please let us know here.

"She's a monster." He winks cheerfully as he ambles on. Which is, uh...technically not an answer either. You'd think he'd've learned his lesson with Marian. Only through familiarity with the context does the answer actually become an answer to said question.

"Fantastic with machines. Built an entire robot and everything."

"I think it's a bit rude to make assumptions about all monsters knowing one another or being from the same world," says Ikaruga, amused. After all, they'd just spoken earlier about people's assumptions about him.

"That's quite impressive, though. Does she have the robot somewhere in Hadriel? I think I would like to see it one day."
skelebro: (kids these days amiright)

Who said he was in any way consistent? Inconsistency is practically his M.O.

"Mettaton? Yeah, he showed up not too long ago." Puttin' a slight emphasis on he. The guy's not an inanimate thing. Even if he is, uh...complicated. Ending up in space on top of everything else before he ends up zapped down here. And, yeah, none of it makes much sense, but when has it ever?

That indirectly answers Ikaruga's question about whether he and Alphys were of the same world, if her robot creation showed up here. She nods at the 'he', filing it away. She does try to be polite, at least.

Which reminds her. "Apologies. I neglected to introduce myself properly before. My name is Ikaruga."

Granted, she knew who Sans was simply by him having very distinctive features and seeing him on the network, but it's not the same as that official formality.
skelebro: (they downgraded to a fuckton)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-02 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sans the skeleton." Formal introductions are always the best way to go, right? If he were a bit more in the mood for it, if they weren't either of 'em in perpetual danger of gettin' mobbed at a moment's notice, he'd be shakin' her hand with a joyful nonchalance right about now, heralding in the introduction with the loud, irreverent flatulence of a whoopee cushion pressed between palms.

"Probably figured that last bit out already though, huh?"
elegant_and_proud: (smug wink)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2017-04-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
"The last part was a bit obvious, yes," she confirms with an amused smile. Once one adds on the last part, Sans becomes the most easily identified individual in Hadriel.

"Do you expect to find more technology that people may have dropped in the caves? Or is this just a matter of leaving no stone unturned?"

skelebro: (southern man better keep your head)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-04 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Some of column A, bit of column B," he answers, nudging a few stones aside with the toe of one slippershod foot. No stone unturned. Get it?

Yeah, nah. Visual gags work a lot better with actual set-up behind 'em.

"We're strapped for supplies here. Might as well see if there's anything we've missed, y'know?"
elegant_and_proud: (smile)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2017-04-06 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
She smiles a bit but doesn't laugh. It's not quite as funny to her as his earlier bad pun, but she appreciates the effort at adding a touch of comedy to their otherwise fairly bleak circumstances. It's best not to think too much about them and instead to focus on tasks that can help the situation.

Killing the dangerous creatures, separating the edible from the inedible, and cutting up the meat so that others can benefit has been her contribution to the efforts.

"That makes sense. It is possible someone could have dropped something when fleeing from the creatures here."
skelebro: (i won't grace it with a description)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-06 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep. Someone might'a blown some debris halfway across the city during Confusion's little evil duo debacle. Or during everyone's little Rage-fests. Or, heck, someone could'a set something down and forgotten to pick it up again."

'Sides, what else is he gonna do? The rate Alphys is going, he's more of a hindrance to her progress than anything else at this point; aside from establishing some basic plans and gathering parts, he ain't good for much else. She's the engineer here. His expertise is purely theoretical, if that.

"Fleeing from something intent on making an hors d'oeuvre of them would be a very good reason for someone to drop a bit of technology," she concedes as she follows along near Sans.

Ikaruga is grateful that she didn't have an evil double. She's spent some time thinking about it, though she's said very little on the matter to anyone. She'd never classify herself as a morally centered person, or even a good person. Merely someone with standards and self-control. A double might not have that self-control, and perhaps would be actively malicious and violent rather than polite and occasionally helpful but fairly indifferent to killing.
skelebro: (no offense but wtf)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
"You never know. Nothin' to lose by double-checking. Y'know?"

Except, potentially, his life. And her life. Which would be kind of a let down, but it ain't like they're in any more or less danger than they would be otherwise. At least this way they're doin' something useful while placing themselves in harm's way.

And a big part of him can't believe that's a thought he just had. Cripes.
elegant_and_proud: (at peace)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2017-04-09 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly. Being able to remain in contact with the others will reassure everyone here with a friend on the other side, which in turn will help motivate everyone to keep the community in tact for when they are able to join us."

In a situation like this one, there's no way to be completely safe. Even barricading oneself inside of a secured home means risking starvation. She'll barricade herself inside when it's time to sleep just so that her body can get the rest it needs. The greatest contribution she can offer in a situation like this is cutting down all of the creatures trying to eat people and making meals of the creatures instead. It's useful enough given that she is one of the stronger fighters here, but she needs to keep herself in prime fighting condition in order to keep doing that.

"That, and bein' able to touch base might actually get both sides to work together and keep us from - whatever it is the gods're scared of."

Tranquility had not sounded real happy about the fact that whatever's out there is capable of wipin' his kind out - and that Fear's side is the one that has to deal with whatever the hell those might be. Frisk is on that side. Asriel is on that side. And so is

A lot of other people.

"Hopefully. Although if we get through this, we really should insist on full disclosure from the gods regarding their enemies. Especially considering how many different worlds people come from here. Theoretically, if they realized how to enter through the Door, we could mistake them for new arrivals."

For all that she's seen him act carefree, she's also observed Sans asking the kinds of questions that require thought and analysis.

"Hope answered some of my questions...but I want to know much more than I currently do."
skelebro: (took the ashes and played you wrong)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-09 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"People've tried probing 'em for information before. Ain't had much reason to trust us 'till now, it seems like." Only really willing to cede that information over in a time of crisis. And the way Tranquility tells it, the group on this side of the split has it easy.

They can't know. Communication between the two groups has grown increasingly unstable, and it's only gonna get worse. It's only ever gonna get worse.

"Distrust and arrogance made them withhold information."

They kept that information back despite how vastly outnumbered they were, simply because they were much more powerful in some ways. And yet, Hope admitted to her that the gods' enemies could be taken out either by a small team of people here, or even by some of the more powerful individuals. It rankles to be underestimated. At least it seems like there's potential to move beyond that, into an alliance - albeit an uneasy one.

"Strange how Fear seemed to think his fake persona was more frightening than the truth. Enemies that even gods would flee from, who would kill all of us merely for being capable of emotions...I find that more distressing than the idea of a tyrant trying to frighten us now and then."

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Distrust? Certainly. Arrogance? Maybe. It's clear that it ain't nearly as concrete as people would initially believe. A lot more complicated than simply not wanting to trust people with what might be the potential to tear the gods down personally.

"Most people do," he agrees, a low drawl of commiseration as he inclines his skull faintly. "But when you invite somethin' new into the mix, kinda takes you outta the equation. Gods strike me as people who like havin' control of the situation."

Havin' anyone else involved removes their influence, and thus their necessity in any situation.

"Or," he says, slowly, "might be that our fear of what's out there ain't feeding him."

Might be that it's feeding whatever's coming instead.

She can admit that keeping their food sources ignorant does have its tactical advantages. It keeps them reliant.

"Hope indicated that their enemies are not beings who feed off of emotion as they do, and that their enemies believe them to be abominations for feeding off of emotions and inspiring them in others. The gods do not seem to require that our emotions be directed specifically toward them. Otherwise, Confusion would be less antagonistic and more odd and contradictory, I would imagine."

skelebro: (never let the smile slip)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-09 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well. If Hope says it, right? Not that he's particularly inclined or disinclined to trust a thing the guy says, but he's learned to take whatever the gods put out there worth - many, many grains of salt, in essence.

"Figures. Said they're named after what they feed off of. Not what they're good at."

Hence why Fear ain't much for intimidation, and why Hope ain't real good at inspiring optimism. It's what fuels them; not what becomes them.
elegant_and_proud: (explaining)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2017-04-09 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Her faith in them and what they say isn't absolute by any stretch of the imagination. She's waiting to see for herself. However, she's taking the attitude that they're probably still hiding things, rather than doubting that anything they say is true. She does believe Hope in his basic descriptions of them - more solid beings than the gods, that they outnumber the gods and residents of Hadriel, that they use technology. There's no point in bothering to ask the gods any questions about anything if one assumes that everything they say is suspect.

"That makes sense. I do hope that their exercise in having us on teams might give them ideas for more acceptable ways to inspire certain emotions in us."

skelebro: (kids these days amiright)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-04-10 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
A healthy mistrust in just about everything down here. Yeah, that's bound to go over real well. Only the gods ain't given 'em much reason to trust much besides the basics. They're usin' the lot of 'em as batteries, more or less, to generate whatever emotions most feed 'em.

Ain't exactly what you call a symbiotic relationship.

"That's the general notion, yeah. 'Least everybody's workin' together now."

For however long that's gonna last.
